Goose Creek resident Kelly Schuler said he was earning a six-figure income in corporate sales when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and after his symptoms became apparent and he lost his job, Social Security Disability Insurance payments became his financial lifeline.
Now he finds himself among the 11 million Americans who could see their monthly checks slashed by 19 percent next year, unless federal lawmakers address a looming shortfall in the Social Security fund that pays disability benefits.

Social Security is out of funds now. In two decades they will be out of IOUs.
If they want to save the system for the truly needy, then they need to get rid of all those who signed up for disability when their unemployment ran out.
Start putting people in jail for SS disability fraud and see how fast the numbers fall.
Social Security Disability checks shouldn’t exist and neither should SSI.. that was never the intent.

There are far too many people too far from retirement age on SSDI.
The largest group is 60-64 years old (about 25%), the two groups below that are also large in terms of numbers ~23% and 17%).
The disability carrier, on the other hand, reviews my case once a year. It sends me medical authorizations so the company can obtain my records. I also get a form to fill out asking about such things as my daily activities. Then after the company gets my records and my completed form, a representative interviews me by telephone. If the company was to become suspicious about my disability, then I would be required to submit to an examination by the insurer's doctor.
I can't understand why the feds can't do the same. I guess it's a lot easier when the fund runs dry to just hit up the taxpayer for more cash. Or the feds could print more money.
I just got a letter from SS the other day saying I had paid in over $300 K. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. When I think of all the wine, women, and song I went without over the decades. Say goodnight, America.
Okay... First, I don’t believe that most of the people receiving disability are scamming the system. I saw what hell it was for my mother to get disability and she was actually dying. It took sheer luck to get her the help that she needed and it was a near thing.
Now on to retirement.
“They” were talking about Social Security insolvency back in the late 70’s-early 80’s. My generation was flat-out told that it wouldn’t be there for us at all.
I remember thinking about that bitterly when I got my first paycheck and realizing that I was paying into a system that would never help me. My own mother (Boomer) talked about it when I was a child.
The politicians have kicked this can down the road for nearly four decades and anyone who was foolish enough to depend on it... well, they were fools. Do not say that ‘you trusted’ when the talking heads have been warning us that it was going to come crashing down in our lifetimes since 8-tracks were the big thing.
Do not say that you had no warning. Do not say that you ‘earned’ it because we’ve all known that it was a Ponzi scheme for years and years.
Do you need it? I know you do. And so do millions and millions of others who built their future on faint hope and nothing more.
And that need isn’t going to do a damn thing to change the fact that the numbers don’t add up.
“They” will keep it afloat for as long as possible, but the party will come to an end eventually.
(And hubs and I are probably screwed, too. We knew that SS wouldn’t be there for us, so we bet on the military retirement. He passed up the big money in the 90’s for the long-term ‘guarantee’. He’s not even out yet and we’re watching the gov’t whittle away at that. With TriCare premiums jumping through the roof and taxes, he’ll probably get about 60% of what he was promised. So no rest for the weary. Lesson learned too late - don’t trust the government to take care of you when you can’t do it for yourself.)
Two words explains everything. Cloward Piven. The 0bama regime wants as many as possible on whatever gummint tit it can latch them to.
I know of a couple of Vets that lied to get their disability check.
