Bob, sure there are hidden conditions...but I truly am sick of seeing “disabled” people crowd into a disabled parking lot and jumping out and running into the store or casino or restaurant....

[[but I truly am sick of seeing “disabled” people crowd into a disabled parking lot and jumping out and running into the store or casino or restaurant....]]

The old saying fits here- walk a mile In their shoes first- then criticize-

Disabled does not = dead or invalid/bed-ridden- I don’t begrudge disabled people having fun once in awhile- or getting out and about- perhaps a disabled person has had weeks of sheer hell, finally feels a little better and simply wants to enjoy themselves by going to a park or store or something- Perhaps the people you are seeing have just months to live too- you never know- Many disabled people have very little stamina- but they can get out and do things for short periods, but then they are laid up for awhile while they recuperate- we don’t live with these folks, so we can’t see them on a daily basis to really know how horrible, or not, they really feel day in and day out-

Like people on Chemo- they get really weak right after getting Chemo- then they recoup a bit, can do a little bit of work, then whamo- they get weak again- People on other heavy medications for things like ALS, MS etc also go through severe ups and downs-

Even people with back problems- some days are really bad, other days are somewhat bearable- and they can lift things but people see them and think they are faking- again- the folks thinking this don’t live with the person and only see them at their best, not at their worst-

Bottom line is we have to be careful how we categorize folks based on glimpses of their lives or glimpses of their activity- Many conditions have no obvious outward signs, and manifest as debilitating weakness- which is invisible-

Now, someone who is on disability doing hard manual labor 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, under the table? Sure- that’s fraud- People on disability because they can’t find jobs? Yep- fraud again (encouraged by our current _resident no less) Even someone working part time under the table, and collecting- yep- fraud- Someone partying day in and day out and collecting? Yep- fraud- A sick person who has a better day, and wants to attend a party? I say more power to them- and God Bless- because days of weakness will no doubt follow- and while you and I are out enjoying our lives, that sick person is stuck at home, in bed, or on couch, feeling like crap- wishing they didn’t’;t have bear such a heavy burden

[[carpel tunnel...bad knees....”anxiety disorders” or a “bad” back....
I have all that stuff but I still work...

I have all that stuff but I still work...]]

Carpal tunnel meh- but ‘bad knees’ can be so bad people require walker, or wheelchair- Anxiety can be severe enough to cripple folsk with the condition- bad back- there are degrees- I know folks on disability who have ‘sore achy backs’ who shouldn’t be on disability, and I know a few folks who’s lives have been completely ruined by severe pain

Fibro can get quite bad as well- again ,there are degrees- depression? Again- depends on how bad- and how well or not they respond to meds-

There are a lot of neurological disorders that while not deadly, like ALS, can be nearly as crippling, and render people incapable of sustained work or prolonged activity- They may feel ok for a walk I n the morning, but by noon be exhausted and wiped out and run down

Even sick people have the desire to do something, be active, be productive- they don’t lose that just because they become ill- and many will have a period where they feel ok and try to do things we normal people do and they pay a heavy price for it-

It’s an awful thing being healthy one day, and ill or injured to the point of disability the next- It’s not an easy thing to accept- they lose not only their health or stamina, or strength, but also their dignity and sense of self worth- especially those who were the providers, who can no longer be the provider- that is a Massive blow to their ego- and not easy to accept- many can’t accept it- and try for years to fight it-

Meh- like I said- we just don’t know unless we’ve walked a mile in their shoes-
