Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage may pave way for expanded gun rights

With the high court’s latest ruling on same-sex marriages, some contend the decision could lead to increased gun rights, specifically national CCW reciprocity, by using the same argument.

Friday the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the Fourteenth Amendment requires a state to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and recognize those sanctioned by other states.

“No longer may this liberty be denied,” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority in the landmark decision that arguably made same sex marriage a reality in the 13 remaining states that continued to ban the practice.

With similar logic applied, gun rights advocates argue that the nation’s patchwork of firearms laws governing the concealed carry of handguns are now circumspect under the same guidelines. In short, they reason if marriage equality is guaranteed from state to state, then so should concealed carry rights.

“To paraphrase what Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy said about same-sex marriage,” noted Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Chairman Alan Gottlieb in a statement Friday, “no right is more profound than the right of self-preservation, and under the Constitution, all citizens should be able to exercise the right of self-defense anywhere in the country. It disparages their ability to do so, and diminishes their personhood to deny the right to bear arms they have in their home states when they are visiting other states.

It will never happen, unfortunately ... cause this gaggle of idiots does not know how to read ... let alone correctly interpret ... the U.S. Constitution!

Someone needs to start a lawsuit immediately to test this.

“No longer may this liberty be denied,” Liberty being equated with licentiousness. Nonsense.

We are no longer under the Rule of Law, but the Rule of Men. Things are going to get very bad before they get better.

If anyone believes this they are gullible. These new rules only work one way.

Not to mention the fat that hypocrisy is the root of liberalism.

For example: ACA- being ruled constitutional should me abortion is not. It completely destroyed the reasoning of Roe.

6 of the 9 are nothing more than political hacks

They’ll make any case what they want the outcome to be in advance. The 4 Demonrats are the worst, not an original thought between them. Anyone knows that’s 4 automatic votes on any issue.

What an embarrassment this Court has been for the last several decades, and especially so with all these most recent appointees.

Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage may pave way for expanded gun rights

This is pure fantasy. When the rule of men trumps the rule of law our fearless leaders can simply make up the rules as they go along.

Roberts did that over two consecutive days this last week.

“Someone needs to start a lawsuit immediately to test this.”

Someone probably will and when they do, I’ll bet the Supremes won’t hear the case because - alas! - nobody has standing!!

The cop-out excuse the court has used since 2008.

The unconstitutional ruling has already made CCW even without a permit a patriotic duty.

No high expectations. Scotus ignores the plain words of the Zer0care law, and then says gay “marriage” is a fundamental right In the Constitution.
Its no telling how they will torture the Second Amendment’s meaning, is there?

“Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage may pave way for expanded gun rights”

Dream on - you think logic or law is at work here?

Some people are truly delusional.

“With similar logic applied, gun rights advocates argue that the nation’s patchwork of firearms laws governing the concealed carry of handguns are now circumspect under the same guidelines.”

We’re not discussing logic here, we’re discussing socialist big government and the rule of law is now what the powers that be want it to be and who is the favored constituency.

As if logic has anything to do with it. It’s all about how Roberts and Kennedy “feel” about the issue on a given day.

equal protection they said, well that can apply for anything now.
Polygamy, taking my gun to MA, not that I would go to the socialist cess pit

Don’t bet on it. I expect District Court decisions are going to go increasingly against gun rights and precedent won’t matter even a little. Then the Supreme Court merely declines to take the cases. Same with 1st Amd cases. They will accelerate now after the gay marriage decision. The District Courts now are almost all Obama courts. Conservatives’ representation in Washington is effectively limited to three Justices. How long will that last? The Democrat majority is permanent. The list of new Justices who have migrated from the Left to the Constitution is pretty short. It has, in fact, no names on it.
