Releases statement on King v. Burwell
HOUSTON, Texas — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement regarding the Supreme Courts decision on King v. Burwell:
“Todays decision in King v. Burwell is judicial activism, plain and simple. For the second time in just a few years, a handful of unelected judges has rewritten the text of Obamacare in order to impose this failed law on millions of Americans. The first time, the Court ignored federal law and magically transformed a statutory ‘penalty’ into a ‘tax.’ Today, these robed Houdinis transmogrified a ‘federal exchange’ into an exchange ‘established by the State.’
“As Justice Scalia rightfully put it, ‘Words no longer have meaning if an Exchange that is not established by a State is established by the State.” He also said, ‘We should start calling this law SCOTUSCare’ I agree.
“If this were a bankruptcy case, or any other case of ordinary statutory interpretation, the result would have been 9-0, with the Court unanimously reversing the Obama administrations illegal actions. But instead, politics intervened.
“For nakedly political reasons, the Supreme Court willfully ignored the words that Congress wrote, and instead read into the law their preferred policy outcome. These judges have joined with President Obama in harming millions of Americans. Unelected judges have once again become legislators, and bad ones at that. They are lawless, and they hide their prevarication in legalese. Our government was designed to be one of laws, not of men, and this transparent distortion is disgraceful.
“At the same time, crocodile tears are flooding our nations capital today over the Supreme Courts decision to illegally rewrite Obamacare, which has been a disaster since its inception. But one day of faux outrage from the Washington Cartel wont fool the millions of courageous conservatives across our country. They know the Republican leadership in Washington is quietly celebrating the Courts decision. If they believe this issue is now settled so they dont have to address it, they are sorely mistaken.
“Every GOP candidate for the Republican nomination should know that this decision makes the 2016 election a referendum on the full repeal of Obamacare.
“I have made repeal of this disastrous law a top priority since the first day I arrived in the Senate and have made its repeal central to my campaign. Any candidate not willing to do the sameand campaign on it every dayshould step aside.
“The Court adopted the IRSs blatantly unlawful reading of the statute to make subsidies available to individuals on federal exchanges, when Congress expressly provided the opposite.
“After todays ruling, Obamacare will now be responsible for imposing illegal taxes on more than 11 million individuals and for burdening hundreds of thousands of businesses with illegal penalties on their workers, killing jobs, and further slowing economic growth. President Obamas health care law remains deeply unpopular and is harming countless Americans by increasing costs and worsening the quality of care.
“I remain fully committed to the repeal of Obamacareevery single word of it. And, in 2017, we will do exactly that.”
I have made repeal of this disastrous law a top priority since the first day I arrived in the Senate and have made its repeal central to my campaign. Any candidate not willing to do the sameand campaign on it every dayshould step aside.
This is why I continue to like and support Cruz's candidacy. He calls out not only the left, but the weak-kneed on his side of the aisle as well, who would rather run on lies and deflections than actually stand up, keep their promises and do what's best for the American people.
Are we going to let them succeed by dispiriting us?
Any suggestions on how YOU would hold the GOP accountable? Unfortunately, that’s a nice buzzword in DC. Very few are ever held accountable there.
Amen
He has no power to repeal Obamacare.
But the Insurance companies will make sure it never gets anywhere. They got to Roberts. They will just make sure Cruz never gets on the ticket via the GOPe.
God is the final and only authority.
A Navy pilot who flew over North Vietnam has/had more gonads or whatever then you will ever have. Yes, he was this and that. To the NVA he was like Gen GIAP’s son. So stop your BS.
I have my batting line up so far...
Cruz, amazingly is batting cleanup, behind, Bobby Jindal, Scott Walker and I might try to find a way to wrap around Rubio, but he has some ‘splaining tu dooooo...
The other guys in the mix are cannon fodder...
The establishment campaign is obvious, and would not have gotten the time of day from me anyway, and FauxNews is all over and in bed with them for obvious reasons...
This idea about 1st tier and second tier candidates is an insult to our process...I could giver a flying fart about the networks and how “hard” it is going to be for “them” to present “all” of the candidates to the voting public...
Who died and said the media gets to rate these campaigns??? and present them to us, their way???
With all due respect (maybe not, I am still deciding if I want to be nice, or insult, for lack of a better idea) to the first two or three states in this Union that get to always have their primaries first, before states that have a real conservative voting base...
I, for one, am tired of leftovers from these little itty bity states that get all the attention every 4 years...
This is the part of the system that is screwing us ALL up...
I believe it should be based upon voter turnout and the percentage of votes that got to a particular campaign, democrat, republican, independent, whatever...And the state that has the highest participation factor gets to go first in the next cycle 4 years from that point...
Yeah, I know...Those states that always go first and give us the dregs after they are done are kinda on the back burner aren’t they...
Well, you guys have had yer chances, many times over...
Otherwise, I guess we can all just continue to sit on the sidelines and wait for our chance to vote on leftovers...
If Ted convinces me he will fight corruption as Sarah did.
Ted's flip on TPA doesn't convince me he can pass that test. Having said that where I live it doesn't matter who is on the GOP ticket they won't win and I want to be sure that I get to vote for a true Christian Patriot.
Cruz made a mistake. I see nothing wrong in fighting for free trade. The mistake is in trusting obama.
Because when their lips move they are lying.
In Oct. last year I met Sen Cruz at a breakfast fundraiser. He is a solid conservative with a great family history. I am contributing to his campaign and I believe he is committed to conservative principals.
If you look at it objectively, Cruz has been clear and consistent in fighting obamacare and despite being under attack from Pubs as well as Rats has not backed down. The only other candidate who has not backed down under incredible pressure is Gov. Walker. These are the two I would vote for.
And it shows in how the leftists have transformed the Northeast into a liberal bastion. GOPe candidates that come from this region aren't worth a bucket of spit in a fight.
Thats it! I can’t vote for TPA Cruz.
His wife worked, gasp, for the NWO. Oh no!!!!
There, couldn’t resist.
Go CRUZ!!!!
Of course you don’t...
Never mind that he was the one that filibustered Ocare on the Senate Floor.
Now, tell us who you really support.
Absolutely! Cruz’ words are as brilliant as Scalia’s.
“I don’t know how Cruz can undo the damage. “
You insist he undo damage, but have no clue how. Therefore no matter what he does, it won’t be good enough.
So which candidate is perfect enough for you?
“A strong Constitutional Conservative can not restore our government to a Constitutional Government without resorting to the same unconstitutional methods that have brought us to this point, because congress will never agree to it. We seem doomed to the rule of a tyrant he only question is be they good or evil.”
A CW or revolution would do it. I think that’s the only way - press the reset button.
Taking flags away from Southerners could be starting something .
One who has not just rhetoric, but a plan to turn things around. Someone who can inspire others to follow their lead.
I'd rather not vote than vote for someone who can't turn things around.
“One who has not just rhetoric, but a plan to turn things around. Someone who can inspire others to follow their lead.”
How about a name, instead of - ironically - just rhetoric.
