You know what makes America stupid? Politicians with no courage. Why the focus on a flag? Take about a wedge issue and we all just go down the path that the piper makes. Its like the media says “what can we use to make the republicans look racist” and viola, our guys/gals always take the premise and bait and run with it.

The U.S. flag and the British flag flew over slavery, too. So?
Heck, the U.S. flag once flew over a country where marriage was between a a man and a woman. How evil is that?

Worrying about the Confederate battle flag is what makes America stupid
The war and slavery has been over in this country for 150 years. Let’s get over it already.
While I’ve usually have the highest regard for Goldman’s writing going back 15 years, on this issue I think he has turned into a blithering idiot.
First, people should research (google) Confederate battle flag, as that had a red bar.
Don’t know or care who this “Spengler” is. His self-important intellectual preening makes this article unreadable and unimportant.
I love all these writers, thinkers and talkers who lecture us about the evils of the First Amendment and free expression.

The simple truth is that the Confederate flag shouldn’t fly on government property. If private entities want to fly it, fine.
Once again we see the 1st Amendment does not apply to those who cross the Times or other leftist radicals. Did they ever call for removing the US flag after Columbine or Newtown?
Never in my life have I heard soo much crap about what makes things stupid. How about the dumbing down of our Children and our Colleges becoming Socialist’s brain washing clinics. That flag has been there and all this crap has started as soon as the raced baiting assclown took office.

Technology helped the North get rid of its slaves first - and ALL the North had slaves. But it was way harder to effectively technologize the fields of the South. Reapers, harvesters and combines finally gave technological parity to the the South with the industrial North, and enabled economic survival without slaves.
The slave issue was, of course, huge. But it was still a cover for the Civil War. That war was about the federalization of the country. Lincoln freed no slaves - he actually acknowledged them as federal property under the 14th Amendment. Then he went on to give all Americans the same “freedom,” and most people are clueless as to this status even today.
If more conservatives studied this issue, the Right would finally find the actual legal leverage it needs to stop the Left. Because EVERYTHING the Left does is through 14th Amendment status - all of it.
