NEW YORK Ride-hailing app company Uber says it is banning its riders and drivers from carrying guns.
Uber Technologies says it is banning firearms of any kind during rides arranged through the Uber platform, and drivers or riders who violate the rule may lose access to the platform. The rules also apply to Uber's affiliates.
The company says it changed its firearms policy on June 10 based on feedback from riders and drivers. Previously it had deferred to local law on the issue.
Competitor Lyft also has a "no weapons" policy. According to Lyft's website, if a driver or rider is found to have a weapon in a Lyft vehicle they'll be barred from the platform regardless of local laws on weapons possession.
It will become the Wild West.....
Why can't anything be left alone? It's so maddening.
Of course, the only time I'd ever get caught with a weapon is if I had to use it to protect someone from attack. Guess I should consider the driver on their own, lest I get banned from using the service.
.... and of course all thugs will obey this.... when they already ignore every law about robbery, murder, etc.
Thugs appreciate this aannouncement. Now they know exactly who to rob.
Dumb! Dumb! Dumber!
This is one of those rules that should be ignored.
It’s been proven that gun free zones prevent horrible crimes.
Seriously: Is anyone really surprised? (yawn)
/s
Regardless, they were already on my ‘list’. (tick)
This is one of those rules that should cause 2A supporters to not use the service.
And how do they propose to ENFORCE this? Frisking all passengers? Metal detectors?
Uber will never get one thin dime from me.
Well, this is a business opportunity for someone with (or a group of people combining) a keen respect for the 2nd Amendment and the principles it embodies, good programming skills, and a good head for business.
So is Uber going to staff each car with a cop?????
I want to know how they are going to enforce that in privately owned vehicles...
Rule change probably at the behest of liability insurance lawyers.
The thinking is that if a company doesn’t prohibit weapons then the company is financially liable for injuries and deaths caused by use of weapons on company property. But companies aren’t liable for the actions of those violating the rules.
Liability insurers and scumbag lawyers together have forced a great many un-needed and undesirable changes on America. If you knowingly allow children to play on your vacant lot you can be sued by parents if there is an injury. So the mean old guy of the 1950s chasing the kids away is now the smart old guy-well,actually he better not chase the kids himself but call the police lest he be falsely charged with child molestation.
Isn’t UBER a no-cash system? Scan your card for payment? So would robbing the driver be worth the effort?
Rolling targets of opportunity.
I have no intention ever anyway of using Uber. Yet another company who makes profit and gets bigger only to push a liberal agenda.
