Meet the Terrible Porn Publisher Behind the Outing of the Duggar Abuse Story

Jill Dillard: "They're used to exploiting women."

In an interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly that ran on Friday, two of the Duggar daughters who were victims of their brother’s inappropriate sexual touching called out the magazine that illegally released the records that not only revealed the identity of their brother Josh (who was a juvenile at the time), but also indirectly identified the victims.

Jill Dillard, the second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, told Kelly that she suspected there might be an agenda behind the story. “I mean, I know that the tabloids that released this, even have — you know, they’re used to exploiting women. They have the parent company –”

“Well, Bauer…they’re a major porn provider…” her sister Jessa Seewald interrupted.

“So I don’t know if they are — maybe their mindset, they’re just used to making objects out of women and maybe we just didn’t seem any different,” Seewald continued.

Jill and Jessa are members of the conservative Christian family that has been featured in the reality TV series 19 Kids and Counting, and the young women are spot on about the background of the company that publishes In Touch magazine.

Bauer Media Group, based in Hamburg, Germany, publishes 600 magazines, over 400 digital products, and 50 radio and TV stations around the world, including In Touch magazine, the publication that uncovered the story of the abuse in the Duggar home. They also traffic in porn — some of it Nazi-themed., as you’ll see on the next page.

The Wrap reported in 2013:

But an investigation by TheWrap has found that there is a darker side to the privately held company, including publication of at least one magazine appealing to neo-Nazis, as well as significant involvement in the distribution of pornography — including Nazi-themed porn movies.

These lend perspective to Bauer’s legal woes in the United States, including a $50 million defamation lawsuit by Tom Cruise, filed last October after two U.S.-based publications alleged he’d abandoned his daughter Suri. In fact, Bauer generates dozens of legal complaints worldwide each year about invasion of privacy or libel, according to a lawyer who has frequently opposed them.

The Duggar sisters are absolutely correct. In Touch and Bauer Media Group make money, in part, by exploiting women and trafficking in content that sexually objectifies women. The young women in the Duggar family who were victims of sexual abuse by their brother were victimized a second time by a magazine that treated them, not as accidental collateral damage in their honest efforts to report a legitimate news story, but as an integral part of a business model based on sexual exploitation of women. They exploited the sexual abuse suffered by the Duggar sisters for money, pure and simple. And they’ve done it with countless other women over the years. Disgusting.

Gothard TEACHES that victims of sexual assault are partly responsible for their assault (what did they DO to arouse their assailant?)

Might want to find out THE TRUTH about things, instead of what you have heard from biased sources.

What you are spouting is complete hogwash.

The state should investigate and if there are any cases that fall outside of the SoL and have witness or evidence, with should be prosecuted.

Okay, so that's adequate to you? Other than that, if there is no prosecution, you feel that what Josh did to make amends is sufficient, and you personally forgive him and accept him in society?

“They struggled with this child in the same way any good parent would which included contacting state authority and supporting professional government run counseling for their son.”

How king was it from the time they knew about Josh’s first victim until the time they went to the authorities?

Josh Duggar IS being punished right now in the court of public opinion. This would not be “out” now (nor would his sisters be going thru their victimization publicly) if their parents would have thought “maybe taking our kids public I a reality TV show isn’t their best interest. Josh needs help and our daughters need healing...thanks but no thanks TLC.”

Instead they signed on to reality tv and became the rock stars of the Quiverfull Movement...and promoting Gothardism subtly with each episode.

I watched many but not all episodes, I wanted them to be the real deal, but they aren’t . I can accept I was fooled...too many cant and are oddly defending strangers edited for their TV audience.

My opinion is the Duggar family took care of the problem within the family. It should have stayed this way. Now the girls Josh pawed get to suffer public humiliation. The girls look OK and not traumatized by the touching. Lets get real here. The touching and pawing was disgusting but it is nowhere near rape and penetration.

Like I said. The girls were not traumatized by it though all the publicity now just might do it. Might hurt them with boyfriends and marriage.

Thank you for your concern, but I prefer to do this my own way.

I like Catholics just fine, but I liked the Messianic Jews best. They were authentic and this group was not into obeying Mosaic law like some other flavors do. The services were amazing and one got the sense they were actually connecting to something. That was in San Francisco and a long time ago, and I haven’t found anything like it elsewhere.

You, sir or ma’am, need to get your head out of your ass.

LOL, really? YOU'RE the one specifying unlimited punishment for someone solely until you feel like stopping it. Right? Isn't that what you said?

I'd say, with all due respect, it's your head that's in a dark, foul place, not mine.

Josh has made his own decisions.

He made the decision to fondle his sisters.

He made the decision to become a public figure.

The public will now and for the rest of Josh”s life make decisions about if Josh should be accepted in society.

As an individual, I do not determine who is accepted into society.

Talisker, I’ve done it before on other threads, but will tell you now what they should have done. At the first incident, they needed to get him out of the house (like living with Grandma or something) TO PROTECT THE GIRLS. Top priority.

Next he needed treatment by a mandatory reporting good psychologist or psychiatrist who has dealt with pedophiles. Maybe at an early stage there is something that could steer him in the right direction. As long as he is living outside the home and is NEVER allowed contact with the girls (except maybe at church sitting far away kind of thing), they would not have removed the girls from the home. (Yes, they needed to hire an attorney right away to prevent any removal of the girls.)

And get the girls counseling that would help them for the rest of their lives, teaching them that it didn’t happen because they failed at modesty...

That is all. No lying, no letting him have those other chances, no making the victims make lunch for him and clean up after him for years. Oh, and NO REALITY SHOW. They should have been busy enough trying to save their son if possible and protecting their girls.

They would not have done so because they didn’t want worldly mandatory reporting - a real police report - not just the little talking to they did with the cop that was collecting child porn himself! That guy IS serving hard Time now and he didn’t (that we know of) even touch a little girl.

It would be heartbreaking to find one’s son committing such crimes. Everyone tell their pubescent boys, please, that if they are past puberty and touching or being inappropriate with someone UNDER puberty, their life WILL BE OVER AS THEY KNOW IT. Period. From 13 on, don’t murder and don’t sexually touch children.

“I’ll let you know when I think it’s enough.”

He didn’t mention his feelings, he mentioned his thoughts. It’s his thoughts you hate so much. He didn’t say he wasn’t in control of his own thoughts.

He seems to be pointing to the fact that those of us who object to the way the molestation was not addressed legally and the way the Duggars are working the PR to minimize his actions and deny the harm done to his victims so it is deemd “water under the bridge.” This is a novel public figure/legal issue for me and perhaps some others and we’d like society to do more than sigh “boys will be boys” and “but they are such nice people!”

I’ve read about how he asked for forgiveness. Forgiveness for any crime can be given but it doesn’t erase consequences. I can kill someone and drop to my knees yelling “What have I done!?” and beg the arriving police and family for forgiveness, but that is a separate issue from consequences.

That’s very much appreciated. Just don’t use those rosary beads. The Baptists told me that is bad juju. :)

Please read what I wrote...he should have been removed from his family home and sent to live with childless relatives (grandparents, aunts/uncles) while he received treatment and counseling. Knowing what any semi regular viewer would know, both JimBob and Michelle’s parents are still alive, and they both have siblings that live in the area. It would have removed opportunity for Josh for further incidents and allowed the girls time and space to heal from being touched I approriately.

This wasn’t done. Locks instead were placed on bedroom doors. Activities were “changed.” I have to question why...was TLC “previewing” the family and the full unit had to be camera ready? Would explaining the first or a absence possibly nix the deal?

Sorry, but they didn’t do all they could...they did what they needed to do to keep up the appearances to ink that TV deal.

Are you saying that your cousin was denied Due Process and some random official outside of the judicial system labeled him a sex offender?

Nope.

Police were involved.

Judge was involved.

Don't know what my cousin did or didn't do to defend her son.

Everything was pretty cut and dry.

Personally though, I know my cousin. She probably just rolled over and did what ever she was told.

If a judge was involved, a courtroom was involved.

First of all use spell check. It will save you the embarrassment of egregious spelling errors.
Second, your question is argumentative and picayune. It took them as long as it took them. They worked with the boy until they felt they needed professional help.
What business is it of yours to put a stopwatch on parenting a troubled child?
Do you even begin to understand how outrageous your attitude is and how contemptuous you are of the Duggars?
