England and Scotland were different countries long before this election.
I refuse to acknowledge the change in colors for the U. S.
If others want to, it’s up to them.
The Democrats (communists) control the red states. That’s my final word on the subject.
Surprised to learn that.
You must really stress out a lot. Goodness sake. With all that is going on in the World, I can’t imagine worrying about something like this. I hope you don’t have high blood pressure.
Like I said
You’re the new murraymom
The media purposely did not want The color red to be locked on Democrats because of the connotation of communism. It was by no means an innocent fix.
My recollection is that before 2000 it was network-by-network as to which party was which color - I believe ABC usually had Republicans as red and NBC (and maybe CBS) had them as blue, although one of them may have done it by incumbent vs. challenger. The USA Today map that sat on their front page for the whole Bush-Gore recount debacle (with Reps as red, Dems as blue) kind of set it in stone.
Election Night 2000 was when the switcheroo occurred. The GOP was too gutless and stupid to repudiate it. Some of us refuse to use the Orwellian newspeak colors, fortunately.
Wardaddy is right, Naps. This is why we’re losing the ideological battle when we let the opposition label us, and do so wrongly. Red has always been the color of communism/socialism/fascist totalitarianism. Did you ever hear the Soviet Union or China or Nazi Germany referred to as “Blue” ?
I agree totally. My tagline used to be “Red=Communist, not Republican”.
Wow. I am honored. I find Murraymom to be an incredible asset to Free Republic.
That’s my take on it too. Red China wasn’t an empty saying.
The U. S. S. R. was also referred to as “Red”, I believe.
They switched this out about the time they grew tired of being tied to the name Liberal, and swapped that for progressive.
I call them regressive, still trying to turn back the clock and try Communism one more time, because it wasn’t give a fair chance last time.
The implementation of full blown communism always results in abuses of rights. It can’t work by mere societal willingness. Folks have to give up too much for that to be the case.
Capitalism does work that way. It’s the natural inclination of man. It’s the root cause of prosperity around the world.
Can’t change that.
Red = Communist
Blue = Freedom
Now THAT’s funny.
MurryMom was banned in 2008.
Oops. Thanks for letting me know. I can’t believe it has been that long since I conversed with MurryMom.
Yeah. JimRob & the mods had just about had it with her. Her last post was right before the ‘08 election (late October) where she was bragging about getting Dems to the polls to vote for Zero.
BTW, I hope you saw my post #30 as well. I didn’t want it to look like I was ganging up on you, just telling you there’s a lot of things going on with those colors that are a lot more nefarious than some folks realize. Some on the left actually didn’t like the foisted “change.” At least one lady I spoke to said she was proud of “Red’s” leftist heritage and was no “Blue Conservative.”
Well is she was advocating voting for Obama then she deserved to be shown the door. That is pretty damning. I guess I just like the color red because of the cars I have owned that were red.....yep dumb reason. I just wonder in today’s world if anyone under 30 has any idea what Communism or anything like that means. Have a great weekend!
Well, nobody can fault you for liking red cars (they probably look better in that shade, anyhow — at least sports cars or some classics), just that when it goes into other areas, like politics, it’s a bit different.
Unfortunately, if folks under 30 don’t know about Communism, we certainly know why (of course, if 30 years ago we saw what this country was going to devolve to, we’re perilously close to the totalitarian result that it is in practice, rather than the fantasy it is in theory).
