Round in the Chamber?

My response was, “Always carry one in the chamber, not having one in does not compute with me.” My reason for saying this is easy, that is how I train. SFC Scarborough responded by stating that he does not feel safe with a round in the chamber, but that is how he trains. Now my thoughts are really trying to make sense of this, but then again, training prepares you for a serious encounter… right?

I can certainly see how women and frightened men would need to carry guns.

I carry a gun for SD so what exactly do I have to fear? Now YOU on the other hand......

“Train with it so that it’s second nature to take it off safe and pew, pew, pew.”

I wonder how many never train. I’m rural so the range is out the back door. I also will draw and dry fire repeatedly while watching TV in the evening.

I fear nothing. That’s why I don’t carry.

Well, you did answer one question that I think most of us asked when we saw your childish post, “is this guy here to troll the thread”?

You already admitted that you try to plan in advance to not go anyplace where tougher men may intimidate or threaten your personal safety, that you allow fear to decide your path and limit your activities.

Guns seem to make you uneasy, that is almost always a trait of the left and fearful cowardly people.

Your tool for protection and defense is your own highly developed fear and internal limits. As you said, “Preparation means not putting yourself in that situation.”. That takes a lot of sheltered living.

You are a very foolish person and very possibly an anti gun plant. No one is that stupid.

No. About the only thing I watch is Big Bang Theory or a movie. If I did watch CAN I probably would have pulled an “Elvis” by now!

Not anti-gun. It’s a matter of taste and belief. Some want to carry and feel the need, I don’t.

You are a liar and owe me an apology. I never said any such thing. Brains keep you safer thatn any gun will. Brains are situational awareness and knowledge of the landscape. Brains are a knowledge of immediate resources. Brains are an ability to size up people, surroundings and conditions. If you are not able to do these things, by all means, you should arm yourself.

With a few exceptions, one chambered. If it's a revolver, all six chambered (I don't own any seven-shooters). If a semi, mag full and one up the spout. If it's a 1911, cocked and locked; if it's a Glock, condition 1 and be extra aware on the draw stroke; if it's a double-single action, one chambered and the decocker engaged. If weapons retention is an issue (one reason the Israelis carry Condition 2) then change the holster out.

If I happen to be carrying at Threat Green or I expect to handle the piece and turn it over to someone else in the next few minutes, then maybe Condition 2 for awhile. If you expect to have to be Quick Draw McGraw, then you aren't at Green anymore anyway.

Most doctrine as taught in America is Condition 1 carry, but well-practiced Israeli carry aficionados can rack the slide and present the piece pretty durn fast. But you need two hands to do that. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Superman, as well as most fears of violent crime, are made up for entertainment purposes.

You know... I agree with you that brains are always the best way to stay safe. That’s a no brainer :) But sometimes things can happen... and sometimes I just don’t always use my brain. In this day and age, I have a backup plan for those moments.

Depends also on what the training is of whoever you’re dealing with.

And I said nothing negative about anyone who makes that choice. I just said that I choose not to carry a weapon and lots here are acting like I peed on their Wheaties. If you want to carry a gun- go ahead. If you want to wear a life vest, heck there may be a flood. if you want to wear a hardhat for fear of falling rocks, go ahead and do that. Wear a reflective vest while cutting the grass to make sure hunters can see you while poaching in the neighborhood, have at it. Different strokes for different folks.

I fear nothing also.....but because I carry.

My life is too important to me to let some thug decide whether I live or die. Putting that decision in the hands of a thug is your prerogative thought. Good luck with that strategy.

Carry a modern firearm with one chambered and have a good holster that protects the trigger. Stay alert at all times when out and about on the streets.

Criminals depend on surprise, stealth, deception, and speed. They are not likely to give you a lot of advance warning unless they screw up their approach. When they show up as a threat, it is likely to be without much warning and you aren't going to want to be monkeying around chambering a round unless you constantly train that way.

However, if you are at home or keep a weapon in your car and there is any possibility of children getting access, for safety keep an empty chamber until you think you might need to use it.
