Last week Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., introduced a bill in Congress asking states to ban sexual orientation conversion therapy, often abbreviated as CT, for minors. California is one of two states that have prohibited licensed professionals from offering the practice, which includes efforts to change not only sexual orientation but also gender identity.
While the congressional bill is only a resolutionit encourages states to bar the practice rather than proposing the heavier lift of a federal banthe idea that CT is dangerous and should be banned is gaining momentum ...
What do we actually know about the practice of CT and its impact on often vulnerable patients? First, the therapy has been discredited across the board by all reputable practitioners, researchers, and professional organizations with any knowledge of the practice. The American Psychological Associations 2009 opus on the topic concludes that there is insufficient evidence to support the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation and warns against the harmful effects of trying. At least 10 major groups with knowledge of the issue, including the World Health Organization, echo this position ...

Yeah, I worked with one, knew several others, had a cousin...all died.
Ask one, if he's honest he'll confirm what I've said.
I don’t know any male homosexuals.
But of course none of them told you what you claim, because none of them were “honest” ??
They’re miserable, utterly miserable, trying to cover it up with some fleeting thrills.
Neither do I anymore, but then I don’t hang out with democRATs much.
Good. You’re on the road to redemption.
I don’t know if they’re miserable or not, certainly not happy to have an early death sentence, but one thing for sure...they all had a shrink.
You don’t know if they are miserable, but they all had a shrink....
Oh lol. The richest joke I heard all day.
From what?
This place is crawling with queers and moonbats...they creep up here from the cities. Markedly identifiable.
I agree that forcing people into some sort of program is not going to be successful. Some people have been through the programs and have benefited.
That’s about all that can be said. As another poster said, this is more or less like any other group therapy. The success rates on alcohol, drugs, and other maladies aren’t 100% or anywhere near it. Does the psychiatric association seek to do away with those too?
There is little evidence any psychotherapy does anything.
If they say "no" then they're forced to admit that the idea of homosexual sex is so unappealing that no amount of exposure or sex can make a straight a homosexual. That's essentially what they're saying about straight sex after all. That it's so abhorrent to them that no amount of exposure or sex can turn them straight.
You can be confused without being miserable.
Those grinning trannies, camping it up in the packer-pride parades don’t look like they’re suffering too much...they’re big attention whores....(at the very least)
Are smokers miserable? Just like fags they LOVE their butts. Most of them, if they really wanted to quit....already would have.
It seems to me ... if gays REALLY liked men, they wouldn’t be attracted to men trying their hardest to act like women.
Like any disorder, addiction etc of course some people can change. Thet just need to make the choice and have the will. They made a choice to begin with- acting on a desire, they can make choice later, not acting on it.........
Curious thing this question. Can someone who is a homosexual become a heterosexual.
Turn it around. No one ever does, but we see it every day. People living their lives normally - heterosexually - marrying, having and raising children all of a sudden deciding “hey, I’m a homosexual. I was born this way.”
Why is it such a threat to the homoleftists that someone might defect from their ranks? Or can and do?
Because sexual behavior is a choice.
It’s that simple.
Discredited by the APA....the same APA that took homosexuality off the list of mental illnesses due to pressure from queers.
Yeah, okay.
I wonder what the ex-lesbian wife of mayor DeBlasio would think?
I’ve also seen people suddenly decide they aren’t gay any more. 15 years...done. No particular reason anyone can tell.
There is considerable evidence that psychotherapy conditions people to be addicted to psychotherapy.
