Nashville - Speaking from the 144th annual NRA Annual Meetings Friday afternoon, potential GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson attempted to clarify his stance on the Second Amendment.

"For the record let me make it extremely clear that I am extremely pro-Second Amendment and that I would never allow anyone to tamper with that right," Carson said.

"We will never let the right to keep and bear arms be removed from those [generations] who follow us in this great nation," he continued.

but anyone criticizing his character

Where on this thread, or any of the other Carson threads, have FReepers maligned Carson's character?

I've seen plenty of "he's a great surgeon, but.." comments, and it's the correct position to have.

He's not presidential material. We went through this crap with Herman Cain in 2012. Run for Congress or the Senate first before thinking about POTUS.

4 months ago Carson didn’t even know what a semi-automatic weapon is.

Well, you did imply he was an affirmative action guy.

That was a bit below the belt, and considering his life's accomplishments, simply untrue.

I did not. I said the "affirmative-action wing of FR" will make a case for him simply because he's black. No way did I say or imply that his actual accomplishments were due to affirmative-action policies.

Good question and what else doesn’t he know? He is a very dangerous candidate and should announce he is not running.

I’m with you-—I’m for Mr, Cruz all the way!

If each freeper who thinks Cruz is the man would send him a donation, it would be a good thing!

Is he really saying that some 'hoods are less safe than others?
We know it's true, I'm just surprised he dares say it.
I would think that people living in such places have the same right to defend themselves as others, and a greater need to boot.
Yea, we don't want guns in the hands of criminals. Same old argument.
The problem is they already have them.
Let the good people have guns too, and watch the crime rate go down.

[[I am extremely pro-Second Amendment...]]

I am extremely pro-Second Amendment... EXCEPT FOR certain circumstances which I think evolve over time and need to be implemented whenever I see fit”

Fixed it

Not presidential timber but an honorable man and person.

Yes and the question begs, will he be the Huckabee of 16' ( along with Santorum and Huckabee if they enter the fray, gosh I hope not give it a rest, their time has come and gone ) and siphon of Christian Conservative voters and allow a RINO to run right up the middle aka what happened to us in 08' via what the "Huckster" as I call him did to allow McCain to run right up the middle.

Look @ my tagline, Pence was Quayled and is now not a contender.

IMHO we are down to a Cruz-Walker or Walker-Cruz ticket, end of story cut out all the bullfeathers, and lets get on with it. IMHO the rest of the field is not as deep as talk radio says, and yes I stand by that statement....

I would never allow anyone to tamper with that right

"Unless, of course, you live in a city - and then I think you should maybe not own a gun..."

Ben - the toothpaste of out of the tube and the words are out of your mouth, and despite what the left likes to think, we DO have memories.

Save your money and some stress - hang it up.

In comparison to Cruz and Walker, no. But in comparison to Romney, McCain, Bush, Dole, Bush, etc., the bench is damn good.

I agree. Bush I claimed he was pro 2A and signed an import ban on “assault weapons” when he was in office. If somebody does not unambiguously support the 2nd Amendment, they will be talked into stupid stuff once they are in office.

Point taken, yes they will flush out ideas and or a platform, but frankly I don’t have the stomach for that “process”, the republic is in peril. I wish the election was next month, nevermind 20-something-ish months away....

Thanks for posting. I was just about to do the same once I found it.

Bears repeating, though.

“It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

Carson found himself crossways with gun rights supporters last week when he suggested that cops should be trained to shoot for the legs instead of center mass i.e. the torso of the body. Carson’s comments once against highlight the fact that he’s not well versed or thought out on issues relating to firearms and law enforcement.

Why not HHS secretary? Surgeon General is a figurehead position, but I could see him doing great service in dismantling Obamacare and deregulating medical care in general.

Here's your exact quote:

This clown has no business running for president. But the affirmative-action wing of FR will beg to differ.

That's a pretty heavy implication in your own words. I don't know how anyone would read that and not come to the conclusion you thought he was an affirmative action candidate.

If you now want to come to my position, which is that this guy is amazingly gifted, has more accomplishments in his life than over 99% of us, be my guest.

I still don't want him as the GOP candidate, but would love him to stump for whichever of these tickets win: Cruz/Walker or Walker/Cruz!
