Nashville - Speaking from the 144th annual NRA Annual Meetings Friday afternoon, potential GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson attempted to clarify his stance on the Second Amendment.

"For the record let me make it extremely clear that I am extremely pro-Second Amendment and that I would never allow anyone to tamper with that right," Carson said.

"We will never let the right to keep and bear arms be removed from those [generations] who follow us in this great nation," he continued.

Keep in mind he is a doctor, and most doctors are conservative, but many many have a knee jerk reaction to guns (ER experiences they see).

While I normally don’t like candidates “evolving” - I’ll give him a tiny bit of slack on this one. But no, he’s not the answer.....

“Maybe he is “evolving”.”

LOL....McCain “evolves” 6 months before every election.

“Obamaites and Clintonites entrenched in high government offices”..... Kinda like sleeper cells or moles. Not sure if anyone is capable of outing all these folks in high places.

If he doesn’t understand the U.S. Constitution...

he will not get my vote for President of the United States.

More to the point, which candidates never have the need to clarify their positions?

Ronald Reagan comes to mind. Can't recall him having to clarify his positions.

Yes; The position of Surgeon General (X2), or the head of all-things-education. He and his wife have immersed themselves in promoting good education and have set up a scholarship program. Considering his history, and his knowledge of how a GOOD education can change lives, this seems like a good position for him.

Not presidential timber but an honorable man and person.

I agree.

He is honest, intelligent, has the right instincts and to his credit is not a politician.

He dedicated his life to perfecting skills far more difficult and far more beneficial than giving stem-winding political speeches full of lies, half-truths and platitudes.

Agreed. And I cut him even more slack considering he spent a good share of his career at John Hopkins in Baltimore.

Ever been to Baltimore? Other than a select few well-patrolled showcase or tourist magnet areas, it is a hellhole. Drugs and gang bangers up the wazoo. There are no shortage of convicted felons with firearms either.

BAFT would have a field day if they concentrated the multitude of agents spread about the country harassing gun shows and dealers rounding up gangsters in Baltimore who shouldn't be owning guns. And Baltimore isn't the only city like this, just one of the worst examples.

Maybe he is “evolving”.

Quite possibly. His first position certainly wasn't intelligently designed.

[If you have to keep clarifying your stance on the 2nd amendment, then you are NOT the candidate.]

Ben is not ready to be POTUS.

Maybe he is “evolving”

if he were to win the it would be a failed mutation. It will die three weeks after he gets into office. I think most of the base is not going to go for these carnival shows like Herman Cain anymore.

I was having a philosophical conversation, not asking you who you would, or would not, vote for. Oh, I did mention I was not supporting him - just understanding where he’s coming from.

Will he ultimately understand the constitution? Well, better than Chuck Schumer and Obama - but maybe not ever as good as Ted Cruz does. But he was watching people die from gun shots.....many times...over his career.

FLASHBACK:
Gas Tax Campaign Gets Ugly Fast (also Ben Carson and guns)

A couple weeks ago, Carson used a nationwide tele-townhall to walk back some comments he made on the Glenn Beck show. Carson said that people have the right to own firearms, but when asked about semi-automatic weapons Carson said, “It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

The fact that a person the caliber of Ben Carson is having trouble competing in the political arena says a lot about the GOP talent pool this time around. Four years ago he might well have been Romney’s main challenger had he developed his current reputation by then.

But while I don’t agree with his position on guns, but anyone criticizing his character is saying a lot more about their own character than about his.

We just believe he has no business running for President, period.
