Scott Walker could become the world’s most powerful man. So who the hell is he?
News Australia ^ | March 14, 2015

EVERY talking head in the United States has spent the last week prattling on about Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Fair enough. The former Secretary of State violated government rules in an apparent effort to keep her correspondence safe from scrutiny. That’s no small matter. But in the meantime, another politician has come from nowhere to dethrone Jeb Bush as the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. His name’s Scott Walker.

A few months ago, Walker was an obscure underdog with little more than an outside chance of becoming the nominee. Now he’s being seriously considered for the most important job on the planet.

WHO IS HE?

Walker, 47, has been the Governor of Wisconsin, a relatively small northern state, since 2011. He’s best known for his role in a bitter political spat with the state’s unions, which was sparked by his efforts to eliminate a variety of collective bargaining rights for government workers.

That battle almost forced Walker out of office, as the unions triggered a rare recall election in 2012. No governor in US history had survived one, but Walker defeated his opponent by a healthy margin. It established his reputation as a stubborn but successful politician, who was willing to fight for ostensibly unpopular reforms.

WHY HE COULD WIN

Walker can make a persuasive case that he’s the Republican candidate most likely to win a general election against Hillary Clinton. That argument is rooted in his record so far — three victorious gubernatorial elections in Wisconsin, a state which usually elects Democrats. Walker has already demonstrated an ability to win over voters who traditionally lean away from Republicans.....

[SNIP]

Of course, if he's to become president, Walker will likely need to defeat two of America’s most powerful political dynasties: the Bushes and the Clintons. Good luck with that.

Aren’t you the one who insinuated that those of us who reject the GOPe liberal darlings as “purists?”

I was unaware Walker was a GOPe liberal darlings...

Based on his press coverage, I think not..

So if Jeb get’s the nomination are you voting for him in the general election?

Only with a gun to my head and I'd have to think about it...

I really have to ask...I support Walker and that makes me a GOP-bot..

Seriously ?

It’s Walker’s wins against labor that have gotten the MSM’s goat.

Exactly! Walker dismantled a fundamental brick in liberalism....forced union contributions from gov't workers....which is taxpayer money.

Now, Walker has eliminated forced union contributions from private sector workers.

Walker is taking liberalism apart at its core.

But, some FReepers still wish to claim he is GOPe in hiding.

I’m not looking for a savior. I just want someone who I can largely agree with and won’t behave like a dictator.

“Honestly, other than his stance against the Unions, I’m not to savvy about Walker. What’s his stance on illegal immigration?”

His stance on illegal immigration doesn’t make any difference. The issue was settled when the GOP agreed to fund Obama’s executive amnesty. The only decision for the next President is whether or not to secure the border and stop the flow, or keep it open and let millions more “citizens in waiting” to come in. The two Republican presidents we’ve had since Reagan (father and son Bush) were both easy on border enforcement and illegal immigration. Quite frankly the Republican Party surrendered on illegal immigration this year and no Republican President going forward will be able to reverse what has been done.

On most other issues his positions are conservative. Plus he is a fighter. He has taken on the unions and won in union state. He has slashed government spending. He beat back a strongly organized and funded recall effort by the left. Unlike Bush, McCain, Romney, and other Republican leaders he responds forcefully to the left’s attacks on him and his policies.

There are so many things broken and destroyed in this country and no conservative politician can deal with every issue. Instead of demanding ideological purity on every issue, I’m asking if the candidate will stand up and fight on any issue he feels is critical to good governance. With respect to Jeb Bush, the answer is no. Walker and Cruz have demonstrated they will stand tall in the face of a vicious and sustained assault by Democrats and their allies in the media.

Walker has executive experience. He’s managed a government bureaucracy and he has beaten Democrats at the governing game. Cruz has no executive experience. He will stand tall and not back off his positions. However, he has no legislative victories.

From my perspective the highest priority is fiscal responsibility. We have to bring the budget into balance and stop accumulating debt. If we don’t, we’ll lose reserve currency status for the dollar and our economy will ultimately collapse. Entitlement spending must be reigned. The battle to accomplish this task alone will consume any President. Gay marriage, immigration, abortion and other issues are secondary to this one.

Walker is the only GOP candidate I see who has demonstrated an ability to fight for and achieve responsible budgeting and spending by government. He has actually taken on the bureaucracy and still lives.

Looking at Cruz versus Walker, I like where Cruz stands on more issues. However, on the one issue I think matters most, Walker has a strong record of fiscal responsibility and the battle scars to show for it.

I don’t think News Australia needs to worry. Even though Walker is my first choice, I do not think he will win the presidency,
Should he become the Republican nominee, he would be up against the MSM, GOPe, the Democrat nominee, some very vocal disgruntled conservatives and the 42%-47% Low Information voters. THAT is probably insurmountable.

However, hope springs eternal.

I’m not looking for a savior.

Me neither..

I already have one...

I just want a POTUS that will fight for and love his country, obey the constitution, work with Congress for the good of the country and surround himself with highly competent people...

In the current crop of candidates Walker seems to fit that criteria best...

You mean the flip flopping, RINO, amnesty loving, compassionate conservative, Bush lite...Scott Walker ? According to small cadre of purity Freepers...

Yep - that's the one they want to destroy so they can whine about Hillary being the next President - they all ascribe to the old military adage that one isn't really happy unless he is griping; and they want to insure they have something to gripe about.

“Are you lock-step GOP-bots happy with Mitch McConnell and John Boehner?”

No, but would you be happier with the rabid barking moonbats that ran against them?

We’ve had 6 years of “it doesn’t matter”.

So, why are they asking now?

Hey Austrailia, ask yourself what you knew about Obama in March of 2007.

I’m confused by your post. He’s no Jesus Christ, but he’s also no Mitt Romney.

Who do you see as more qualified?

I must confess that my personal favorites are Walker and Cruz. If I was voting solely on principle, I’d pick Cruz, but when I see the track record of executive actions, I pick Walker. I’ll take either, and would love if either got the presidency, though.

We know FAR MORE about Walker than we knew about the Fascist Dictator sitting in the Oval Office, and he has had more exposure to foreign policy issues than that idiot did.

Foreigners tend to support Democrats because a lot of them are
Socialists and most of them get all their information about us from Hollyweird, and from the mainstream media.

There are Fellow Travelers here, no doubt.

Truth be told...I am all for a purity test for candidates...except I live in reality

My version of what a perfect candidate should be agrees with about 10 to 15 percent of the general population...

85 % of what I want in a candidate is far better than insisting the candidate be XYZ or I'm part of the problem and essentially voting for the libtard by not voting...

Yet people do just that..
