Glenn Beck Calls Ben Carson a 'Lunatic,' Says Presidential Career Is 'Over'
Christian Post ^ | 03/10/2015 | Leonardo Blair

Conservative media personality Glenn Beck declared renowned neurosurgeon and potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson's presidential career over and branded him a "lunatic" last week for calling homosexuality "absolutely" a choice because of prison sex.

Carson told CNN last Wednesday that he believed homosexuality is "absolutely" a choice citing as an example that "a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight — and when they come out, they're gay…So, did something happen while they were in there?"

Reacting to Carson's comments, on his radio show Friday, Beck called them "ridiculous".

"Goodbye to his presidential career," said Beck. "It's over. It's over. There is no way to recover from that. That just sounds like a lunatic… That is just a ridiculous statement on a million fronts. A ridiculous statement."

"It's not just that he didn't see [the question] coming," Beck continued. "It's that he just thought that was a good answer. That was good enough for him. Just [imagine] I'm at a cocktail party and I'm talking to a friend and they say 'well yeah, you know, you go to prison and you're straight, you get out and you're gay,' don't you look at your friend — I don't care if he's the guy who works at the 7-Eleven and he's not running for president ever — don't you go, 'That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard'?"

Carson has since apologized for the analogy but in a reaction to Beck's comments, Carson's spokesman told Breitbart that the attacks won't stop Carson from being his own man.

"Dr. Carson has a very deep well of support across this country, and he's in the process of gauging its strength and potential. We recognize there are many challenges, and one comment cannot and will not derail Ben Carson from answering the many American voices desperate for real leadership," noted the spokesman.

"His position on gay marriage is nearly identical to all the possible candidates. He just did something very un-Washington; he told a reporter the truth about the right of states to determine their own laws reflecting the wishes of their own citizens. He apologized for his prison analogy but not for his position on gay marriage," he added.

Carson is former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. A position he rose to at the age of 33 which made him the youngest major division director in the hospital's history. He was also a co-director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center.

“Its over” also describes Beck’s career as a national radio personality.

I hope so, the sooner the better. We used to have good conservative commentary in the mornings in my market, but Beck is currently on Sirius Patriot as well as the station at 1150 kilocycles that used to be KRKD. I get so frustrated by the boring banter that comprises much of his program that I often turn to music.

We need more men like Ben Carson to speak out and keep perversion away from our kids.”

No we don't, he now looks like a crackpot. He's obviously no-where near ready for his make-believe run.

He only looks like a crackpot because the perverts control the media. Too bad you think the way you do.

Glen Beck lost me when he came out in favor of homosexual marriage.

The few times I listen to his show now (out of morbid curiosity) he sounds like a member of GLADD or NAMBLA.

What a disappointment he has come since his rally in Washington D.C.

I suspect that Beck is losing his touch. Before denouncing Carson, the old Beck would have spent a week weeping while announcing that something big was going to happen soon.

Something that "will shake the foundations of the power structure in this country..."

What happened to that one?

He looks like a crackpot because he didn't even think about what he was saying enough to be able to defend it, your hero Carson just furthered the gay rights movement.

Another Todd Akin.

Sorry. Gotta agree with Beck on this one. It wasn't so much the "nature vs. nurture" argument (that's still open to debate) but rather Carson's prison analogy that was an embarrassing blunder reminiscent of Todd Akin.

Doesn't really matter. Ben Carson has never had a realistic path to the White House. But we don't need this crap muddling up the message and serving as a distraction. Carson needs to go away.

That's not what Glenn Beck was talking about.
Glenn was pointing at the FACT that homosexuals can not tolerate anyone who didn't go along with their agenda,
and that their lack of support, along with the loony left's distortions, and the failure of our Public School System to teach critical thinking, would destroy any possibility Carson had of continuing his campaign.

Time will tell ...

I like Ben Carson as Surgeon General. I think a lot of people jumped on his bandwagon as he was a breath of fresh air when he surfaced at the Prayer Breakfast. He is very bright, a good person, but doesn’t have the political savvy to be the President.

In 2010, I was on the Glenn Beck show when he had 3.5m viewers. I gave him a copy of my "Patriot's History of the United States," and could tell he hadn't read it. He called me four days later and apologized for having not read it, and read the whole thing over the weekend (950 pp). The next day on air, he began holding up the book every 10 minutes, saying, "This is the best US history book ever," and "you have to get this book." I was on the show many times after that, and had dinner with Beck in his NY hotel room, where we talked history for an hour. I gave him a step-by-step conservative history lesson, with sources that I mailed him.

Several months later, when I got word that he was going to start the Blaze internet TV, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get a video version of PHUSA funded. It surely was right down his alley. I flew to NYC, met with Beck and Cheatwood. We were talking $1m production then for a series start of maybe 2 episodes. He somewhat abruptly handed me off to Joel, and that was pretty much it. Realize I already had a completed, G-rated, very good documentary called "Rockin' the Wall" about music's part in bringing down the Iron Curtain, that we were offering him very inexpensively to benefit us but also to start him off with good, solid exclusive programming. No dice.

My appearances got fewer and further in between. I was last on in the fall of 2014 when it was clear they wanted me to say things that supported David Barton's weird interpretation of current events. I wouldn't do it. But I could tell something was wrong when Joe Kerry left, because Joe had been his right hand man for years.

Beck self-destructed. He had the LARGEST TV audience for that kind of show---no one was close. I think he listened too much to Barton and, as far as his tv network went, it's as the article said: he had nothing you had to see, nothing special to tune in for. We offered him that, but he didn't want it.

Like you, I have little faith in the average intelligence of the American public. Homosexuals are a small percentage but they occupy positions of control and influence and they are only interested in pushing their "lifestyle" and with it, the death of humanity.

Homosexuality is a mental disease, the worst kind: one that is communicable.

I did not know that Glen Beck was still around. By calling Carson a lunatic Glen Beck has found a way to get back into some level of headlines and notarity.

As far as I am concerned, Glenn Beck is dead. I will never read, listen, or watch him again.

RE: But we don’t need this crap muddling up the message and serving as a distraction

Whether we like it or not, ANY conservative candidate will have to deal with this question.

WHY? BECAUSE IT WILL ( I DID NOT SAY ‘MIGHT’, I SAID ‘WILL’ ) BE BROUGHT UP.

This, along with — Abortion, Rape and Abortion, Evolution vs Creation, etc.

Asking questions like these might be crap and a sideshow compared to say, foreign policy or the economy, but it is this crap that the MSM WILL bring up.

Any conservative candidate MUST BE prepared to deal with it.

Yep. And Carson demonstrated he wasn't prepared. I hope the real candidates are taking notes.

OK, let’s ask ourselves...

How does a conservative, who is a devout Christian questions like:

Do you believe Homosexuality is a choice or in born?

Do you approve of abortion in cases of rape or incest?

Do you believe the world was created in 6 days?

While I am not supporting Dr. Carson for President, I think that he would make an excellent choice for appointment by a Conservative President, looking for a Secretary of Health, to begin the necessary process of backing the Federal Government out of Civilian Health Care.

Beck's rantings against Dr. Carson's clearly reasoned approach to the Homosexual problem, reflect on Beck, not Dr. Carson! While there are some people who are genetically compromised sexually, through no fault of their own, who deserve our compassion; there are also people who acquire tastes for particular activities, which may start as an experiment in a licentious era; and if Beck has a problem with acknowledging that fact, common courtesy--at least--ought to persuade him not to denounce those willing to discuss the fact.
