Rush Limbaugh, whos been a fixture on WLS AM 890 for more than 25 years, is about to get the bums rush from the Cumulus Media news/talk station, sources said Wednesday. If all goes as planned, Limbaughs syndicated talk show, which airs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, will be dropped by the end of March, according to insiders at WLS.
A Cumulus Media spokeswoman declined immediate comment. But a source familiar with the decision said it was based on the shows diminished ratings and failure to generate advertising revenue for the station, adding: Its impossible to sell.
Yes, that is why he doesn’t need Rush on the air in the Chicago area exposing the liberal lies and deception.
A new deal is probably already signed if this is even accurate. Hope it’s WIND; that would mean Dennis Miller would be bumped or moved to a different time slot.
There are just much better options available.
Who the hell has time these days to sit by an AM radio for 3 hours in the middle of the day to listen to a radio show?
Rush will always be the gold standard of what conservative talk can aspire to, but the medium is just out of date, and we aren’t cultivating young talent to take his place one day. Those guys are all on the internet now.
A big wheel in the talk radio universe, way up the food chain of a network, told me he firmly believes that Cumulus is funded by Soros so that they can afford financially to jettison their conservative hosts. As bizarre as that seems, this is not some off the wall conspiracy guy. And stories like this indicate he might just be right.
WKRP first ep.:
Arthur Carlson: (Andy) Travis, you’re fired!
Mrs Carlson: Young man this radio station is a business. It is not here for your personal listening pleasure.
Andy: Ma’am I know it’s a business. That’s wny I changed the format (to rock)
(She asks him when they can turn a profit and he says it’ll take awhile. Too little, too late! she replies but eventually agrees to give it a try. Andy isn’t really fired. Anyway it brings up a good point. Radio IS a business. So this is big news...but Rush is still a lot more successful than the likes of Air America. In 04 their Jon Sinton predicted that in 5 years they’d have 500 or so stations too...right...)
the tea and the book stuff does tire me too, but he’s still the best there is going.
That is why God invented i-Heart Radio! Not a Problem. Check into Cincinnati’s 55KRC or Columbus’ 610WTVN and enjoy Rush daily.
Cities around the Country will be carrying RUSH if Chicago Stations don’t want you to listen to them anymore!
Assuming this was a business decision - is not a good assumption. It is not a business decision...not in the sense you meant.
Dennis Miller will stop doing his show in a couple weeks. Syndicator Westwood One will replace him w a Chicago based show hosted by Jonathan Branmeier
Hmmmmm ..?? What Rush Limbaugh are you listening to these days .. yours doesn’t sound like the one I’m listening to.
Well Rahm is trying to get re-elected you know.
Rush post hearing loss is nowhere near pre hearing loss Rush
yeah, there are some Freepers who don’t listen, but know exactly what his show is about. Kinda like liberals.....
I haven’t tuned in in years either. I gave up listening to controlled opposition about five years ago.
That was true...for a few years. He’s about back to par. But other things have changed...his two businesses, his fourth wife, and Bo Snerdly phoning it in (I don’t think Rush does, but I think his staff is to a degree).
Radio Insight Feb 27”
As part of yesterdays announcement that Jonathan Brandmeier will join Cumulus/Westwood One for a daily syndicated program, Dennis Miller will end his program on Friday, March 27.Miller debuted his show in March 2007 and previously signed an extension with what was then known as Dial Global to continue in 2012. While being fed live from 12-3pm eastern, Millers program was delayed until evenings on most of the stations clearing him.
In the press statement Miller stated, Im stepping aside from radio at the moment. Its been a great run and Ive had a phenomenal time interacting with my guests and audience. But with so many other commitments right now, its hard to maintain a daily talk show. Its time to pass the torch as I move on to explore other opportunities. I wish Johnny B lots of luck.
Is Snot-nosed Tommy still kicking ?
agree he has improved but elements already cited, the shilling of books and tea, drag the show.
And since he can take a half hour to say “the chicken crossed the road” there is not that much content.
No, what I meant was if you are dropping him due to business reasons, tell him first, don’t “leak” it to the press.
