It might have something to do with the article itself mentioning declining ratings. I know I used to listen to talk radio years ago. These days ... not. It's just too easy to do my own thing now days.

The adverts on Limbaugh both national and local has changed a lot in 20 yrs.
The progressive assault on large companies has pretty much taken them off completely.

Why else would they replace him? Do you honestly think the station owners would voluntarily replace him with someone who would generate LESS revenue?
I stopped listening to Rush and the other radio yappers when he ( and the others) failed to report on Obama’s very questionable eligibility and the forgeries he posted. Rush and the rest are untrustworthy.
Like you, I read Free Republic. More efficient. Greater range of news. Likely far more reliable.

It’s a radio station. They’re in the business to make money. Rush isn’t making as much as they’d like. Its all quite simple when you take off the tin foil hat.
