LOUISVILLE, Ky. A Louisville man is behind bars after a homeowner turned the table on his assailant.
Jack Stahl, 26, is charged with robbery and resisting arrest.
Police said he broke into a Louisville home Sunday morning and held Terry Driskell at gunpoint.
Terry Driskell said it was about 4:30 a.m. Sunday when his dogs began barking at the door to his garage.
He went to the door to see what they were barking at and what happened next took him by surprise.
"And as soon as I open this door, boom! Come in on me. Gun blazing. 'Give me all you money, give me your Xbox, PlayStation, give me everything,'" Driskell said.
Driskell's wife, Cyrena Driskell, and their children were in the bedroom.
She asked what was happening and then Stahl yelled for her to come out, but she refused.
"At that point, I was in fear of my life. I was in fear of my children. I didn't know what was going on. I just grabbed them, and I was just lying in bed with them, and I was just praying to God, you know, to be with us," Cyrena Driskell said.
Terry Driskell talked Stahl into leaving her alone.
"There's no phone back there. She is no harm for you right now at all. I said, 'I keep all my valuables upstairs. Let's go upstairs,'" Terry Driskell said.
What Terry Driskell didn't tell the gunman was that his brother in-law was also upstairs sleeping.
"I escalated my voice volume to try to wake my brother up, and luckily, he did," Terry Driskell said
When the two men walked into the room, his brother-in-law was able to sneak up behind Stahl.
"As soon as his eyes came away, it was immediately, gun away from anybody, and then my brother-in-law grabbed him around his waist where he couldn't lift his arms back up," Terry Driskell said.
The two men kept Stahl subdued until police arrived.
Stahl, who has numerous drug, alcohol and theft convictions, was arrested.
"I made it my determination to go to his arraignment and hold pictures of my kids for him to see whose home he came into and what children he put at risk. He had no care for those lives when he came in those doors," Cyrena Driskell said.
Terry Driskell said he would risk his life again if it meant protecting his family.
"The whole time, going through my head, it was just like the pictures of my children, the pictures of my wife," he said.
The Driskells said they plan to be at every one of Stahl's court appearances pushing for the maximum sentence possible.
Stahl is being held on a $75,000 bond.
He's due back in court next week.
He wouldn’t even have that much face left if it was my house he came into.
He should be in a coffin instead.
He looks tired. Maybe a little beat...
Brothers-in-law do come in handy at times.
Good family story.
The rhythm of the street done knocked him off his feet.
Why open the door? Idiot.
LOL
Put some music to that...
I would have to be cleaning up a whole lotta blood off the garage walls...............and smiling while at it..............................
An example of why women should not be in combat.
His picture would be on a milk carton if he came to my house like that.
> Put some music to that...
But skip the fireworks.
Should have 7.5 million as bail instead of a measly 75,000.
Everyone could’ve lost their lives because of this low-life.
"Why open the door?"
That Stahl doesn’t look like the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with.
An armed home invasion/robbery really puts innocent lives at great risk. This thug should be locked away for at least 30 years.
Criminal extremely lucky to be alive.
Bad idea to show the punk pictures of your kids. He won’t be in jail forever.
Looks like he got a much-needed tune-up.
