There’s Nothing Shameful about Walker’s Being a College ‘Dropout’
National Review Online ^ | February 12, 2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Posted on 02/12/2015 11:39:56 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Were he to become president,” Howard Dean jeered this morning on MSNBC,Wisconsin’s Scott Walker “would be the first president in many generations that did not have a college degree.” This, Dean concluded was a disgrace. “He’s never finished,”he spluttered, and “the issue here is not just an issue of dancing around the question of evolution for political reasons, the issue is how well educated is this guy? And that’s a problem.”

Thus was one of the most successful politicians of recent years condemned for lack of a certificate......

......Sorry, Mr. Walker, you have the wrong colored dot on your forehead to run for higher office....

....This being a democratic republic,it is dangerous in and of itself for our elites to condemn as unsuitable for office those they consider to be “less educated” than themselves. But it is downright repugnant to watch certain members of the journalistic class meditating on the question of whether a man who has been infinitely more successful than themselves should be deemed ineligible for want of their preferred credentials. It is difficult, too, not to divine a touch of caste-system snobbery in the initial inquiry. As higher education becomes increasingly fetishized, those who do not possess the right letters after their names will be increasingly in danger of marginalization-even, it should be said, when they are successful and happy and full of self-assurance. If Scott Walker is the nominee, there is no doubt his detractors will play as subtly but as brutally as they can on his being a “dropout,” nor that the professional class that determines the shape of the debates will mutter in irritation that he is not one of them. If he has any sense about him,he will refuse to entertain the premise. “Sure I didn’t finish college,” he will say. “But look where I am now. This is America, goddamnit.”

Dropping out of college didn’t hurt Bill Gates.

Considering many members of Congress’s position of being a dropout from American society ... It’s an honor to have a man that dropped out of the institution that could have produced ANOTHER of such same ilk ... STAND

Yes indeed, who cares about this non-issue except the Elites.
According to the Census, 29% of Americans age 25+ had a bachelor’s degree from 2009-2013 compared with 24% in 2000. The increased percent may be due to the lack of anything better to do for many young people during the Obama low employment years. Still no jobs and a whopping debt that will be left to the dwindling taxpayers.

The last Democrat president which this country had who rose to the level of excellence was Grover Cleveland, who didn't attend college at all.

We've had exactly two since who even rose to the level of mediocrity. One of those two didn't have a college degree either-- Harry S. Truman.

The other, JFK, would be drummed out of today's party for his views on tax cuts and Communism.

"A college education didn’t seem to teach bam bam much."

"bam-bam" can't prove that he got a college education, or where he was during some of his 'college years'.

I rather like that Walker doesn’t have a degree, especially an Ivy League degree. If there is one lesson we can take away from Washington, it is that degrees are highly overrated, especially Ivy League degrees.

I forget who said that he would prefer to pick a name randomly from a phone book that from the roster of Harvard’s professors. In any case, he was right.

Marquette should give him an honorary and that would stop the criticism immediately.

Confusing academic achievement with intelligence has been around for a long time. A chicken can be taught how to count with different colored corn kernels as a reward system - and chickens are not that bright.

Getting a college degree has little to do with being educated. You are merely "credentialed".

I have met so many ignorant, uneducated college graduates in my 45-years since graduating from college!

All the Kennedy boys cheated their way through college and law school.

At least Walker knows how many US states there are.
