I don’t like the two weeks between the end of the NFL conference championship games and the Super Bowl. Two weeks is far too long for today’s sports media to keep my attention while talking about only two teams. In this case, it’s two teams about which I couldn’t care less. If only they both could lose.
Given this much time to cover one sporting event, the media coverage frequently devolves into witless trivial minutia about things like who can make the best crude joke while talking about deflated footballs, or what line will Marshawn Lynch next use when he doesn’t talk to the media. Nevertheless, during this football purgatory, while driving, I still surf by the sports talk programs on the radio.

But skipping the SB for a hypothetical day of birth?

Between “being there” for the kid’s birth, and “being there” for the kid’s life, commend me to the latter.

The child will not give a damn if daddy is in the delivery room or not. The child WOULD give a damn - if by age 8 or 9 - he found out his dad screwed his teammates, coaches and fans out of a Super Bowl title - because he bowed down to effeminized PC....

That was my thought when I heard about this “controversy” on the morning drive radio yesterday. “Marry the woman”. And then you can say ‘I want to be with my wife’ instead of ‘I want to be with my shack job when she gives birth to my bastard child.”
Yes, though he’s apparently done much better by Jack than many athletes do for their kids.

During the whole War on Terror, how many thousands of service men were deployed during the birth of their child to their wife? This is a ridicules controversy.
I suspect “lil Sherm” will wait for his Feb 12 due date and all the all-of-a sudden concerned parents won’t have to debate whether he will miss the SB or not to see his son’s birth
I continue to be surprised (hint: I am old) that the mother is referred to in the news as “his girl friend”. That seems to be the modern term. In my day, this would have been a scandal and now it seems (sadly) “fashionable”.
Oh, and GO HAWKS!
Why doesn’t the NFL do something really daring like prohibiting players who have sired children outside of marriage from playing? That would go a long way toward addressing spousal/child abuse issues.
The girlfriend needs to do the right thing, have a partial birth abortion today and free Sherman up for the game. /s

Yes, he should do the right thing and marry the mother of his child.
He should do the OTHER right thing and show up for the game, even if she goes into labor. NFL players spend their entire careers working toward that particular goal. Sherman has no business letting down his teammates. It’s also his responsibility to act like a man and earn that paycheck to support mom and baby.
I give the girlfriend full credit for saying she won’t let him know if her labor begins so that he can play. The child wouldn’t care that daddy wasn’t present at delivery. On the contrary, he/she would think it was incredibly cool that he couldn’t be there because he was playing in the Super Bowl.
What did women do all those years before men were allowed in the delivery room? How do they give birth when husbands are away at war?

This kind of talk is exactly why Marshawn Lynch doesn’t speak to the press. And O’Reilly last night telling millions of we “folks” that Lynch’s father is in prison for armed robbery was totally uncalled for. Bill’s correct when he calls himself simple...”minded”.

In the 1950s men weren’t even permitted in the room. Who cares? I was present for all 4 of mine, the last 2 of which were born in my bedroom. But I am not an NFL supertstar. And if I was my wife wouyld be furious if I skipped ANY game, let alone the Super Bowl.

I agree with Hannity; no huge need to be there for a birth which may or may not happen. In his case, he actually does this for a living. NOT the armchair jackasses who THINK it is the most important thing, even though they have absolutely no connection to the game. (Yes, I mean the millions of fans who obsess on this as if their lives depend on it.)
But I also am appalled to hear “girlfriend”, not wife. Not really surprised in this immoral age, but still properly appalled.
He at least needs a shotgun wedding.
