New Questions Raised About Rolling Stone's UVA Rape Story
ABC News ^

Posted on 12/11/2014 4:45:07 PM PST by TigerClaws

The college students described as friends of the alleged rape victim Jackie in an explosive Rolling Stone article revealed their identities to ABC News today, and said that some of the magazine's story is false.

"The text was so divergent from what we said that evening," said Alex Stone, who said he's identified as "Andy" in the article.

The magazine article describes a violent, three-hour gang rape that left a University of Virginia student identified as Jackie bruised and bloody when she escaped a house on fraternity row, right near the university president's office.

At least there is no doubt about the motive for the story.

“Washington Post article is devastating.”

Despite the facts streaming in, the fraternities remain suspended. Progressives never let a real or faux crisis go to waste.

It appears Jackie had some kind of CATFISH-esque obsession with one of the frat guys. Strong motive for lying.

She’ll be a co-defendant in the lawsuit and will have to testify.

Washington Post article is devastating.

I'm really surprised it has been the Washington Post that was so instrumental in destroying Rolling Stone's story. Has Sabrina Rubin Erdely made any public comment since this all fell apart? Seems she's pretty much been in hiding. Can't say I blame her.

I’m guessing the university administration has threatened the fraternity and there will be no lawsuit. It may be release of the suspension will be predicated on all fraternities agreeing not to sue Jackie or the university.

But, depending on how this goes that may just make the University liable to shell out Duke style restitution. Not as big a payout since no Nifong was found to push prosecutions but still enough to compensate for threats even if carried through.

It’s basically a local story for the Washington Post. UVa is maybe 90 minutes away from DC. Many Post reporters and their children are alumni, students, or future students.

Too many lawyers out there.

RS article implied that ALL members of that frat then and in the years surrounding the time period of the rape all had to rape to join the frat. It was a hazing act. That’s an awful lot of plaintiffs of an identifiable class. Can you say, “CLASS ACTION”?

RS is a deep pocket.

Now you’ve got ALL members of the Greek system who lost all of the fees and expenses of being members as well as the social life cost, enjoyment, distress. The specific frat has loss of reputation as well.

A bunch of plaintiffs with very viable case.

Had it happened in my home state, lawsuits would already be filed and there’d be a piling on. Not sure the rules where UVA is situation, but lawsuits are coming.

Plus, you’ve got a local jury against the RS (deep pocket) out of town Yankee types, with Jackie and whoever listed as a local defendant to prevent it from going to federal court.

This could be a 100 mill plus score for the plaintiffs.

Exactly! Why should innocent people (the fraternities) agree to anything?

The university needs to pay for what they did and heavily.

. And "Jackie" needs to also be sued, personally, as should Rolling Stone.

“But, depending on how this goes that may just make the University liable to shell out Duke style restitution.”

UVA President Sullivan is still hanging tough on reforming (i.e. punishing) the fraternities. They remain suspended. She told the Washington post she is dedicated to reforming them.

It is interesting how this played out. The Interfraternity Council voted to voluntarily suspend all social activities after the article came out. Sullivan could have applauded their action as being in the tradition of responsible self government. Instead she decided to play to the press and the crowd by making a point of officially suspending them. She had an agenda and this incident played into her agenda.

What could possibly be her reason for not lifting the suspension now?

If Jackie isn’t yet toast, she will be; like totally carbonized toast.

What’s more, she deserves it for defaming the frat, the school, etc.

When Progressives get caught lying then they use the “although the rape was a complete fabrication, we need to use this opportunity to implement draconian rules and regulations that are totally unnecessary but that can be implemented due to the confusion and disruption caused by the rape fabrication”. That dear Soul is what they do!

Did “Jackie” flunk out of school, thus setting off this cover story about leaving the university ?

I’ve seen two or three mentions of this angle.
