ORLANDO, Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida sheriff called for calm after a 28-year-old unarmed black man in a stolen car was shot and critically wounded early on Monday by a white officer, after witness reports that the man had his hands up and amid racially charged protests nationwide about police violence.

“should not be grounds for an execution.”
As I understand it, the man is recovering in the hospital...so lets not spread dirt on his coffin lid just yet.
I wasn’t there of course...but reconstructing it in my mind:
The cop had his gun out, which is expected based on my years of watching COPS. They always pull their guns out for felony stops...and it stands to reason that the cop could only respond by shooting, if his gun was already out.
Now I ask you - if anyone has a gun pointed at you, cop or not, what are you going to do? Are you going to do exactly what he says...or are you going to stick your hands in your clothes?
"Lottacats says: December 9, 2014 at 1:25 am Before I read the above comments, I want yall to know this girl went to school with my daughter. My daughter is a little older but Ive been feeling so sad since I heard about this. I am so glad youve picked up on this story. I dont live in Courtland but close enough in Panola County. I do know from talking to my daughter she had been dating a black guy, was breaking it off with him because he beat on her. My daughter last saw her several months ago when she came into her work sometime several months ago and told her about this. I also heard her father was not happy with her dating this black boy. Ill add anything I may hear. Justice for Jessica!"

If his hands were up, his pants would have fallen down.
The article said his hands were up. I’m only going by what is in the article.
I understand shooting someone if they have a weapon. But there was no indication that a weapon was present. This sounds more like “He wasn’t following my commands so I shot him”.
Do you honestly expect, in this atmosphere of “blacks can do no wrong”, “ALL whites are evil racists”, to find “stronger sources” with regards to a 19 year old white girl being murdered in such a savage manner?
Look at the national blackout on the Christian/Newsome mutilations/murders....how many “strong sources” reported on them?
I think the problem with numerous furtive movements is the possibility that the suspect is frantically trying to find a gun or knife they stashed within arm’s reach.
Or trying to get his pants to stay up.
With all those past arrests and sitting in a stolen car with a cop pointing a gun at you, thinking about doing hard time, you should probably let go of the pants. At least you can moon the cop for arresting you.
If you’re under gunpoint in a stolen car, do you really worry about a weed conviction?
“The article said his hands were up”
“Id hate to think I would be shot for trying to hide my weed.”
These two statements don’t fit together very well. He can’t have been shot both while his hands were up and also while he was ‘hiding weed’. It has to be one or the other.
Who said his hands were up and who said he was moving his hands around?
The national race hustlers will manipulate and incite with everything they have on this one. The potential loss of revenue to Orlando area attractions Disney, Universal, et al caused by rioting and violence is too big an extortion carrot to pass up.
Isn’t amazing how quickly the word gets around. Let’s repeat the chorus, black folks; the lack of truth will set you free.
I’m with you. I’m sick and tired of all this racist white cop crap. I can’t watch the news anymore. I could give a rats ass.
I dont care if a car thief with 45 past charges was shot.
Me, neither. He was a predator on society.
“Who said his hands were up and who said he was moving his hands around?”
Well, I used quotes in my previous post because they weren’t my words....
In fact they were yours.
I don’t trust “witness” statements. Police shootings have been politicized, and it’s always “unarmed”, as if that matters, and always “hands up, don’t shoot”. Video or it didn’t happen.
Evidence? Hey, he made a sudden move out of my line of sight. If I waited I might be the one shot. Weed was the last thing on my mind; I wanted to go home after my shift. Now I have to live with what I did. < /cop's perspective* >
(Full disclosure: am not and never have been a police officer, just projecting my own reactions. Your mileage may vary.)
The perp could be a quadriplegic and the Black witnesses would swear he was standing there with his arms up.
“Im failing to see why the shooting was necessary. Id hate to think I would be shot for trying to hide my weed.”
Allow me to explain why the cop made a “good shoot” in this case.
1. Many (all too many) younger black criminals have rap sheets and therefore police reasonably may assume you to be a greater risk of violent resistance than white suspects.
2. When an officer is arresting you for a felony level crime, keep your hands in sight - lest the officer assume you are reaching for a gun.
3. If you want to be treated by the police as a law abiding American, BE A Law Abiding American.
4. Regardless of your color, if the officer knows you have a criminal record, he will treat you as a criminal and therefore more dangerous than a law abiding citizen.
5. Remember than threatening or criminal behavior may result in anyone legally shooting you if they feel you pose a threat of severe injury or death.
6. Being black in absolutely no way at all gives you any “right” to be a criminal.
7. Americans, like Moses and Jesus, believe in private property. Criminals do not. Criminals were always dealt with in the past, usually by their victims who simply shot them.
8. America is returning to its historic reliance on self protection and being at all times armed.
9. Acting in ignorance of the above may result in your lawful death.
You totally missed my point, but thanks for proving what an illiterate you are with a major reading comprehension problem.
