You might have figured Ford's new all-aluminum F-150 would be a shoo-in for Motor Trend's 2015 Truck of the Year award, but you'd be wrong. General Motors had its own all-new truck in the running and that vehicle, the mid-sized Chevrolet Colorado, took the prize.
The Colorado is GM's new model that's designed to compete against trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. Neither Ford (F) nor Chrysler Group (FCAU)'s Ram truck brand offer trucks this size any longer. It is smaller than the full-size Chevrolet Silverado truck.
"Colorado is a smart, capable, and refreshingly honest truck that makes a strong value and efficiency statement," Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh said in a statement. "It's perfectly sized and suited for the needs of many of today's truck users."

I’d reconsider if the premium bond holders who were raped in favor of UNION medical pensions got 100% + interest of their investment back.
That’s an oversized grocery-getter, not a truck. It’s not a real truck until you can lay a quarter-ton of 4x8 drywall flat on the bed, or not have a conniption when your wet and muddy Labrador jumps into the front seat.
They only compare ‘new’ models, so any tried-and-true vehicle is not in the running. And if there are no new models from Toyota and Nissan, or ‘new’ models from Ram, Ford, no real competition. Rigged voting.
It may find buyers, but someone forgot the bed - you know, the thing that makes a truck a truck...
Motor Trend has a long and proud history of picking total losers for their awards. I really like smaller trucks like the Ranger & S-10, but no one offers them any more. We had an old S-10 that ran great, but I gave it to my son and he wrecked it 3 months later.
Wonder if GM ever fixed the DEXCOOL issues? Nothing like using antifreeze that eats the head gaskets...
>>I repeat myself. There is no way in cowboy hell I would EVER, EVER, EVER buy another GM product! EVER!
Me neither. But I wish that Ford would start making a small pickup again. You can get a Ranger in other countries with turbo diesels and Eco-boost that would fill a niche in this country too.
I’d maybe think about a long bed if it had a short cab - maybe. But a short bed WITH a king cab or back seat, no way. Too long, bad turn radius and can’t haul a lot.
I’ve always had short beds, regular cabs. Turn radius on my F150 is great! BTW, I quit worrying about sheetrock and plywood when I had an accident in 86 where near a ton of it fell over on me and messed up my legs good.

You know, I had a Nova I bought after I got out of the AF in 76. Within a couple of months the heater core in the cabin started leaking. The coolant ate right through the core.....entire system was f@cked. Had to replace and flush everything, radiator, heater core, hoses, freeze plugs, etc. I wonder if what you’re talking about was the cause?
My son wrecked a paid off honda civic, only 5 years old. Thing had another 10 years in it. He flipped it, can you believe that? Not a scratch on him.
Its a smaller truck.
Not every one is looking for a large hauler. Nothing with a big truck but some people find it overkill.
They are whom the Chevy Colorado finds a market.
>>What are the Colorados engine issues ?
I had a 2005 Colorado with the I-5. Valve springs began to fail at 45k miles. It was my last GM product.
I love my F150...2010 model. 103K miles. It’s been great.
I guess this explains it:
“Trucks this size are “lifestyle” vehicles rather than pure work trucks, Loh said...”
I did quite a bit of work using a Ranger, a LUV & an S10.
There's a lot to be said for a vinyl bench seat and rubber floor mats.
I'm wonderin if by "lifestyles" he means totally GAY.
If you want a work truck, get a work truck.
In rural areas, the only trucks around are work trucks.
Reliability and ruggedness are critical in the middle of nowhere and hundreds of miles from nearest civilization.
And people expect nothing but the best in their work truck.
And...the Bronco II....rumor has it they might be brining it back.
I don’t think Dexcool was introduced until 1996. ??

I am one of those people. I need to be able to haul light 4 x 8 loads, other assorted junk, and get into some tight muddy areas to haul out deer. I do not need a FS pickup. I currently use my wife's minivan, but it's not a great off-road vehicle, and the other guys snicker at me behind my back.
