Chevy Colorado beats F-150 for Truck of the Year

You might have figured Ford's new all-aluminum F-150 would be a shoo-in for Motor Trend's 2015 Truck of the Year award, but you'd be wrong. General Motors had its own all-new truck in the running and that vehicle, the mid-sized Chevrolet Colorado, took the prize.

The Colorado is GM's new model that's designed to compete against trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. Neither Ford (F) nor Chrysler Group (FCAU)'s Ram truck brand offer trucks this size any longer. It is smaller than the full-size Chevrolet Silverado truck.

"Colorado is a smart, capable, and refreshingly honest truck that makes a strong value and efficiency statement," Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh said in a statement. "It's perfectly sized and suited for the needs of many of today's truck users."

IMHO the Colorado is the uggliest truck on the road. It may be a great truck otherwise.

The irony here is that Ford had planned to reintroduce the F-100 in that size class to replace the Ranger, but shelved the project (along with a light Diesel engine, IIRC) during the 2009 crunch. Perhaps they should give that plan another look.

“Truck of the Year” doesn’t mean anything and is much like the celebrity awards. It’s a campaign and lobby award honor only. When was the last time a “truck of the year” was proven the best truck introduced/made that year that matched up with the highest sales? I know of no correlation.

These media “Car Enthusiasts” that publish this stuff get a vote of No Confidence from me.

Colorados have a host of known engine issues, so motor trend and car and driver, or whomever can claim what they like - in the end it is just more government propaganda.

I can't get too into the weeds, but I was blessed to be given a ride in full boat with every bell and whistle 2015 Laredo F-150.

All I can say is Oh my.....

After my ride all I can ask is...

Where did Motor-Trend Test the Chevy in Colorado and were they eating "magic" brownies during the ride?

Motor Trend Car of the year is a kiss of death. Look at all the losers that got this award.

It will find buyers.

How long before the Colorado joins the 30 million or so GM vehicles recalled this year?

I think what manufacturers should concentrate on is longevity. Make a damned transmission that is guaranteed for a minimum 200,000 miles....disc brake pads that last over 100,000 (my F150 at 103K is still on factory pads, BTW). LEDs for everything but headlights. Belts that last a minimum of 100K, etc....I’d buy one. Then, puts some 100K tires on it and you’re good to go.

Also, make one that doesn’t shoot off its 02 sensors all the time because of frigging ethanol gas. My three cents.

I will never buy a vehicle from a UAW owned manufacturer such as Government Motors or Fiat.

If its American, it Ford.

Somehow that styling just leaves me cold. Looks flat, boring, insipid. Maybe the slightly higher ride height in the rear, the flat lip on the wheel flails, the smallish tires. Of course none of that means a darn when you get to the stuff that matters. But it just screams “blah.”

“Colorado is a smart, capable, and refreshingly honest truck ...”

I almost quit reading at that point.

I’m glad I hung in there for the “smart, capable, and refreshingly honest” Freeper comments.

As I thought. I’ll stick with Ford.
