Identity Politics Crashes At City Hall
City Journal ^ | November 18, 2014 | Myron Magnet

Posted on 11/18/2014 2:20:03 PM PST by OddLane

The trouble with thinking that the personal is political, as late-1960s feminists taught American radicals to say, is that it is not merely wrong but also dangerous, as yesterday’s sad and sordid departure of Rachel Noerdlinger from her $170,000-a-year job as chief of staff to New York mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife demonstrated.

This fundamental tenet of identity politics, a shorthand way of saying that your personal unhappiness stems from larger political forces—anything from the suffocating nuclear family, the institutionalized oppression of women, or the supposedly ineradicable racism of American society—and that only vast political change can solve your individual problems, has been the guiding principle of New York mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration. His campaign slogan was the “tale of two cities:” one poor and minority; one rich, white, and determined to oppress the other New York with a racist police force bent on harassing minority youths with stop-and-frisk tactics based on racial profiling.

A de Blasio administration would end stop-and-frisk, the candidate promised. It would then uplift the poor New York by taxing the rich one to provide universal preschool, whose lack is a key reason ghetto kids don’t succeed, he contended, and to hand out welfare checks without requiring recipients to do workfare jobs in return, since institutionalized racism is the reason they have no jobs in the first place.

This woman had to quit because her son was arrested for trespassing? Heck, I’ve been arrested for trespassing...and nobody cared. I’m thinking we’re not getting the whole story here....

Why the hell does the mayor’s wife even have a staff on the public payroll?

“Why the hell does the mayor’s wife even have a staff on the public payroll?”

That’s what I don’t get. I wasn’t aware that the mayor’s wife was an elected official.

Khari — who in the past has tweeted anti-white and anti-cop sentiments, including, “I’m convinced all white people are the devil’’ and “Pigs always killing people’’ — declined to speak with reporters at the apartment he shares with his mom and her boyfriend, convicted killer and drug trafficker Hassaun McFarlane.

The entire Democrat party is evil. But some are even worse than others.

I’m appalled at the use of the NYPD as chauffeurs.

NYC is a sink.

What's especially infuriating is the fact that it's being done in service of officials whose offices shouldn't even exist.
