They are ok as of (maybe) last Monday or Tuesday according to the Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/cdc-chief-after-dallas-nurses-ebola-infection-us-must-rethink-protocols/2014/10/13/5317a9a8-530f-11e4-809b-8cc0a295c773_story.html

“Everybody’s okay,” said Aaron Yah, who is in quarantine along with other relatives of Duncan. He said that no one, including Duncan’s girlfriend, has shown any signs of infection

Maybe the Post is covering for the regime as they usually do. But the deaths of these people would be hard to hide. The simplest explanation is that they were lucky and Youngor Jallah in particular made them take precautions. She knew it was Ebola although she didn't admit it at first.

This will go into the Strange Annals of Medicine, to be sure, unless some funny business was going on as you suggest

And ground zero for this is probably in the most conservative large city in the country. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I sincerely doubt the official news reports of his living situation, fiance, and family members being in that household. He needed a cover story for why he came to the U.S.

Lies.

He purposely came here for treatment because he knew he was exposed, and he flew on that commercial airliner. CDC and obama don’t want us to think about that.

“Dr. Wendy Chung has remained on the front lines of the government’s response to the outbreak since Duncan’s diagnosis. She’s worked alongside federal, state and local health authorities as she undergoes monitoring for any signs of the disease....”

Classic “Bernaying” alert.

All communication and press releases are to associate all governmenters with actual heros. Association = “new hero” = hire more same = more paychecks = more retirement/pension $ = to fund managers = into counterfeit stock market.

Frieden said that the 48 people whom officials started monitoring two weeks ago had passed a critical period and were now unlikely to contract the disease. They were more than 14 days into the 21-day maximum incubation period.

One of them is Duncan’s fiancée, Louise Troh, 54, who has been under state-ordered quarantine with her 13-year-old son and two other young men. “Right now, we’re OK,” she said in a phone interview from the house where she and the others have been staying, in an undisclosed location. “I’m healthy. Everybody’s fine. God is in control.”

he flew on that commercial airliner.

He flew into Dallas on Sept 20 (actually early AM on the 21st). That means the airline passengers have had 28 days of incubation if they were infected. By the chart I posted in post #20, there is basically zero likelihood that they are infected and still incubating. The statistics are form Africa and could be a little off, but it is very unlikely that anyone from those flights (through Dulles) caused any infections.

Thanks for the link. My belief is that the family lucked out, Duncan was not quite a virus factory at the point at which he left in the ambulance and Youngor Jallah did a decent job with the Chlorox spray.

Sept 30th... she’s at 16 or 17 days... probably out of the woods.

Not if the virus is mutating.

Not if the virus is mutating.

A mutation that changes the incubation period (making it longer)? In the statistics of the incubation period (graph in post 20) there may have been some opportunities for such mutations. But there is no natural selection mechanism to pass on a long incubation period in Africa. People get their exposure through various stupid practices (e.g. hauling corpses in taxis), they get sick, and they pass it on, regardless of incubation period.

That’s what I’m thinking. It’s even probable that he knew he had it and stayed locked in a room until his second hospital trip.

It could be as simple as Duncan washing his hands every time he had the runs. He didn't projectile vomit, just mattress / pillow vomit, he didn't sneeze, etc. I think Jallah knew he had it early on. She admitted she knew on Sunday when saw his red eyes on Sunday AM when the dumb GF told her daughter to "fetch your daddy some breakfast". He was not locked in a room since he went to the bathroom all night.

I think there is a lot of luck and individuality. Every patient is different and the strains are slightly different. Duncan gave it to the nurses but by that time he was exploding from both ends. The CDC and hospital suggest the nurses got it before Duncan was diagnosed but that is probably CYA BS. The fact is the protection they gave them was inadequate. Air can easily enter the hood and droplets of bodily fluids can hit the eyes.

That’s true what you say.

My point was the “cover story” of family relationships to distract that someone who knew he was exposed to a seriously ill ebola victim, was purposely flying on a commercial airline to the U.S. for treatment.

We are fortunate he was not at the point of shedding the virus or developing a high fever in the course of that international flight.

You are correct steve86. The likelihood that any member of the US Military becomes infected is remote at best...Even if some in the military become infected, with the exception of the mess hall, barracks and the daily exercise area there would not really be a chance that they could spread the disease to others...wait, what?

You are describing a typical contagion scenario for influenza or other casually transmissible pathogens, not Ebola.
