Putting guns in schools is reason to recoil

America has always been awash in bad ideas. The Founding Fathers spoke a good game about liberty but allowed America to become a slave republic, because they didn't want to alienate the Southern farmers and merchants who helped bankroll and fight the war for independence against the British.

The Southern states wanted access to American liberty based on skin color. They got their wish for disproportionate representation in the early republic with the three-fifths clause enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Tolerance of slavery was not only a bad idea, it has had disastrous consequences for America ever since.

Right up there in the annals of bad ideas were the notions that women didn't really need access to the ballot box, that genocide and forced relocation of Native Americans was "progress" and that "corporations are people, too" - an idea that got traction after the Civil War.

Most people who aren't brainwashed or willfully ignorant know this about our nation's history and are thoroughly mortified by it. We look back at bad ideas that were once taken as gospel and shake our heads in bewilderment.

He does know we ended that, right?

Tony, explain your opposition to this: In mass shootings, those where an armed policeman was the first responder had an average of 12.3 killed. Those where an armed non-policeman was the first to respond had an average of 2.8 killed.

Exactly why is it better for another 9.5 people to die in every instance?

They got their wish for disproportionate representation in the early republic with the three-fifths clause enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

The Southerners wanted their slaves to be counted as whole human beings for the census. It was the Northern States that insisted that a slave should only be counted as 3/5 of a person. The Northern States therefore got the disproportionate representation.

As a matter of fact, it was the Northern States who didn't want slaves counted at all.

The moment a liberal mentions the three-fifths clause in the Constitution as proof of its built-in racism is when you know he is an ignorant fool.

The Framers put that in to LIMIT the constituency base of the slaveholding states. Geez......!

And this liberal idiot’s “good idea” is to protect the children with a sign that says “no guns allowed”?

America has always been awash in bad ideas. The Founding Fathers spoke a good game about liberty but allowed America to "REMAIN" a slave republic, because they didn't want to alienate the Southern farmers and merchants who helped bankroll and fight the war for independence against the British.

Wasn't America a slave colony under british rule?

The USA was a slave country for less than 90 years, from our founding until Linclon and the civil war, but we are constantly assailed for 300 years of british rule.

seems to me that the vast majority of his ‘bad ideas’ were/are democrat ideas.

what he frets about is that there are school employees who have already been vetted by the government and shown to be safe with firearms. these are the same people who end mass shootings in malls, shopping centers, and protect you and me when the police aren’t able.

i guess these same people turn into raging maniacs while inside a school...

Dude, slaving was already going on in the British colony of America long before we became the US of A. Then it took us 76 years to abolish slavery at our greatest cost ever. Yes, the founders debated the issue but the consensus was to establish and preserve the Union first, then deal with the issues that the Constitution would clearly bring about.

Do your history homework, kid.

To the author...

Someone WILL “put” a gun or guns in schools. That’s a foregone conclusion.

Decide now, sir, whether you want it to be the good guys, or the bad guys.

America has always been awash in bad ideas.

This is what our youth are being taught in government schools. It’s the Howard Zinn version of US history and like all things liberal it’s based on twisted truth aka lies.

“Where are they going to find 5-6 members of the NEA who are mentally stable enough to be around firearms?”...

Living in a small rural area, we rub elbows with teachers on a daily basis, attend the same churches, volunteer for civic needs and often many of them are friends. The real unfortunate part is many of them have been so brainwashed, it is hard for them to see the forest for the trees. (Almost forgot, many of them hunt and have CCW permits as well, including my two granddaughters who are teachers.)

Don’t believe in God? That’s OK with me.
Don’t believe in guns? That’s OK too.
Somebody breaks down your door in the middle of the night?
What do you do?
Call somebody who has a gun and pray that they get their in time.

(For those in Rio Linda, who you call is the police, who have the guns.)

In other words, gun ownership, like all individual freedoms (speech, religion, etc.), is racist and evil.

Hence, George Zimmerman and the Ferguson police, in clear cases of self defense against black thugs, have to go to prison.

Because they used an individual freedom. Because they are free.
