The costly fantasy of impeaching Obama: The way to punish a president is at the polls
The Washington Times ^ | July 14, 2014 | Wesley Pruden

Posted on 07/15/2014 9:12:27 AM PDT by EveningStar

The Democrats owe a growing debt to the Republican red-hots pursuing the fantasy of impeaching Barack Obama. They're collecting a lot of cash -- probably not as much as they claim, but a lot -- from the naive and excitable folks in the Democratic base. Outrage is easily convertible to cash, as every bagman knows, and the Republicans should get a cut of it. Fair is fair.

Sarah Palin, who as a former governor knows better than to confuse hoping with doing, is leading the baying hounds this week. She told an audience the other day that "the many impeachable offenses of President Obama can no longer be ignored. If after all this, he's not impeachable, then no one is."

She's right about that second part. No one is. We've tried impeachment twice, and neither time the weapon worked.

Let’s impeach Nov. 7. or the day after the election, whichever is soonest.

Articles if Impeachment need to be written and updated as required. They should be published on the web for all to see and be able to consult.

The polls aren't a good bet, as long as people on welfare can vote.

States can remove their right to vote, just like for felons.

Not holding my breath though.

It’s too late for that.

Just food for thought...we’ve tried a socialist president once and it didn’t work.

To quote “Curly” Howard:
“If at first you don’t succeed, keep on sucking ‘till you do you succeed.”

Impeach Holder. The time to do this is years overdue. We have an actual criminal running the Justice Department and congress does nothing about it.

The GOPe is certainly opposed to impeachment because they don’t think it helps them win the next election.....

Know what...that ain’t a bad idea.

I’d vote for a conservative that composed his own Articles of Impeachment and gave them to the citizens on January 20.

It is possible to do two things at once. Beat the traitorous criminals at the voting booth and impeach the Clown Prince. Even if he isn’t convicted by a compromised senate...the cretin’s impeachment is on record.

Talking about impeachment openly right now is only handing the enemy ammo. Let’s shut up until we shoot and shovel in November.

From a political perspective, impeaching Obama will be a plus for Democrats and a plus for Obama. Republicans will lose more than just the vote in the Senate, which they cannot win in any case. Impeachment, as a political act, cannot go forward unless success is assured and success will never be assured without strong public sentiment that favors drastic action. We have not come close to reaching that threshold.

Although I believe there are ample grounds for impeachment and removal, I understand the argument that it is a political impossibility in the current climate, and thus not a prudent action for the Republicans to take.

But I expect Wes Pruden to understand that the goal is not to “punish the president” but to save the nation while there MAY yet be hope. The goal is to make it impossible for him to continue the damaging and potentially fatal course on which he has embarked as captain of the American ship of state.

At the very least, Republicans ought to be arguing that America is at great risk every second Obama remains in the White House, and they ought to be trying to move public opinion in that direction by making the case for impeachment in every conceivable public forum, if not yet in Congress.

We need all three branches in order to get anything done and to reverse the immorality that has been the cornerstone of this administration. Our country is becoming a big Chicago.

I’m not interested in punishment. I want him stopped from doing further harm to the military and our society as a whole. But getting him out of office would leave us with somebody in office who obviously has reduced mental capacity and who hold views that are at least as harmful. At least Biden does not hate America. He just believes in policies that will do further harm.
