At the end of the Civil War, but before the pernicious reach of Jim Crow undermined the Union Army’s battlefield victory, former slaves and free blacks found themselves in possession of a most precious right -- the right to vote.
It didn’t matter if a man had been a war hero in the famed, all-black 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment or a house servant on a Southern plantation. All that mattered was that he was a man.
To say that this development didn’t sit well with the progressive-minded women of this country is an understatement. Before the war, the abolitionist movement and the suffragist movement had been fused at the hip -- or so women believed. They weren’t allied causes so much as they were the same cause, demanded in the same lecture halls by the same people in the same speeches.
After four years of burying their husbands, fathers, and sons -- the Union men who’d donned their country’s blue uniforms and sang John Brown’s Hymn as they marched to the killing fields -- American women thought they had earned some consideration. They thought they had earned the right to be heard, the right to vote, and the right to hold political office.
When this assumption was proven wrong -- when Frederick Douglass, of all people -- figuratively patted them on their heads and said in essence, “Not now, little lady, not yet. Your time will come,” they couldn’t have felt more disillusioned.
Betrayal by the men who had made “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” the unofficial national song -- its lyrics written by a woman -- had lasting repercussions in the nation’s collective female consciousness. One of them was the idea that war is rarely the answer....

The really scary thing is I have been reading some of the writings of a whack job named Alexander Dugin from Russia. SO far, we are following the playbook he spelled out in 1994. By playing off special interest groups to promote secession movements, Dugin hoped to split Europe with Germany, isolate China, and spread influence to Asia and the Middle East.
As bad as that is, there is one more thing Mr Dugin forgot to factor in. When all sides start playing identity politics, things get very bloody. Listening to Rush last week, I think that phase is about to start.

The GOP is fighting for its life. I fully expect some rather interesting tricks during the primaries.

I love that post. Really do.
But that doesn’t really apply in a Civil War.
Go look at the Finnish Civil war. Then move to the Balkans.
If things proceed along the path they appear to be going, what starts with bombs will end with sticks. No one wins in a Civil War. The original nation loses (yes, that applies to our own Civil War).
Go read Dugin (on the internet, do give that Russo Hitler any money). He, and others like him, REALLY want to break up the USA. They proposed doing it by playing off the various ethnic and cultural groups against each other. So far, that is what is going on.
Without the white academic, media and bureaucratic left, the minorities in this country would have less power than the Sunnis in Iran.
Many more black males are in prison or unable to vote due to past felony convictions than their female counterparts. So even if the same percentage of qualified black males voted as black females, the female vote would surpass the male vote.
But is this also true for white, asian, and hispanic populations?
If pretty much all black voters will be voting Democrat then it doesn't really matter to the GOP whether black males vote more or less than black females.
What will really matter is whether there will be enough white male voters to counteract any sex-based voting nonsense.
Here's hoping she is delusional and decides to run, but is seen as a weak candidate. Then candidates like Bush, and Christie, and Romney will all be emboldened to run.
So when the conservative vote gets split (which it will because of the egos of the conservative candidates who will refuse to back out) then at least the RINO vote will also be split giving a conservative a fighting chance to end up with the nomination.
That's important, yes. But even among white voters, women have been outnumbering men for quite a while. I think that started about 1990, though I'm not sure. Traditionally, when women first began to vote, it didn't really have much effect on the overall voting percentages, because there was no significant "gender gap." The "gender gap" really began when women received more government assistance, statistically, than men did.
I so happens, BTW, that although all blacks as a group vote around 90% 'Rat for president, there is a "gender gap" in the black vote as well.
The 600,000+ men who died in the Civil War may have believed they were fighting to preserve the Union or to defend their homes, or to defend Southern rights, or to free the slaves. None of them believed they were fighting for woman suffrage.
Some of the strongest opponents of woman suffrage in that era were women.
No way that Jeb Bush will be the 2016 nominee. There's something that will prevent that: the primaries.
