...The announcement made it clear that Canadian pipeline backers will not get the answer they wanted in time for the summer construction season, pushing completion of the project until 2015 at best.
The State Department said it needs more time to prepare its recommendation to the president because the pipeline route is mired in uncertainty. A legal dispute is underway in Nebraska over the route and it is unlikely to be resolved before next year....
Speculation had been rampant about whether the Obama administration might try to punt the politically sensitive decision until after this years midterms. Thats because even if the project has solid support from the general public, it has sharply divided Barack Obamas Democratic party.
On one side, there are big-money environmentalist donors. On the other side, red-state conservative Democrats risk losing their seats and leaving the Republicans with control of both congressional chambers.
The Harper government appears unconvinced the decision was apolitical.
We are disappointed that politics continue to delay a decision on Keystone XL, Harper spokesman Jason MacDonald said in a statement....
Dave Domina, who is representing holdout Nebraska landowners, laid out the timeline this way: the district court has 90 days to transfer the documents related to its Feb. 19 decision to the state Supreme Court; the state government then has 30 days to submit a brief; Domina says he then has 30 days to submit his brief; the case then goes on the calendar for oral arguments and probably wont be heard until after the summer.
Oral arguments are next and finally, Domina says, the court will prepare its verdict. In his career, he says hes seen state court decisions take anywhere from six weeks to 19 months....

"we don't need no stinking economic activity"
And we all knew it wouldn’t be completed.
And we all know it will never be completed.
Or is this your "get even" for those Dems who don't bow down??
If there’s one thing Obama has consistently displayed again and again - it’s his ability to always make the WRONG decision.
And regardless of how the court rules, the losers will appeal to the next higher court and another year or two is wasted. Then that ruling will be appealed and another year is wasted even if it is rejected by the final court ruing. Pipeline will not get final Obama decision in his term in office!
Every Democrat ought to lose their seat this fall on this issue alone. Obama is obviously lying about caring about jobs and the economy when this pipeline has been stranded in his bureaucracy for almost six years during The Worst Recession Since the Depression.
The REAL Secret here is that Obama is raising money for his Presidential Library. The BIG donors to the Library have threatened to withold their money if he approves the pipeline, As I have repeatedly said, “the biggest danger to the economy and security of the United States is the Environmental Lobby and the politicians they buy”.
Tucker Carlson said Obozo needs over 700 million for his _residential Library and Mosque. The far left rich enviro types must be pleased in order to get their donations.
America gets to suffer so Obozo can have what he wants.
“....will not be completed this year”......
Which “year” were they talking about? Actually the building of this pipeline has been kicked down the road sooooooo many times, I’ve lost count of the YEARS.
Too busy fomenting chaos around the world to tend the garden in their back yard.
Keystone XL pipeline will not be completed started this year, U.S. agencies told
Any doubt that the GOP would not retain the house was decided today.
I believe he can receive foreign money for it. I’m sure the Muzzies will give and give.
Tom Steyer planning $100 million campaign push
http://www.politico.com/story/2014/02/tom-steyer-campaign-donor-103617.html
“A person close to Steyer confirmed the $100 million figure to POLITICO but cautioned that it is not a ceiling.”
...........
“He spent millions on the 2013 Massachusetts Senate and Virginia governors races, helping Democrats Ed Markey and Terry McAuliffe prevail, and has become one of the most outspoken opponents of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. The group has also showed signs its willing to go after Democrats who support Keystone, possibly including vulnerable Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu.”
...............
“And in the latest signal that rejecting Keystone will be one of his top priorities going into the election, ...”

I heard that the Canadian oil is most fit for refining into diesel fuel that would be most marketable in Europe. With limited refining capacity in the US (no new refineries in decades) the production of European diesel will reduce the supply of gasoline hence raising the cost of gasoline. I’m no petrochemist and this explanation could be true but it doesn’t ring true to me. Anyone know better?
Umm, no. Refiners will produce the most profitable product from available feedstock. Increased supply of feedstock, even heavy oil, will decrease the price of feedstock and add to the supply of all refined products. Adding to the supply helps stabilize or reduce prices for all petroleum products.
Keystone oil will replace heavy oil imported from Venezuela.
Allow me to explain the Keystone deal. Energy is the lifeblood of a modern society. TransCanada Pipelines wants to build a delivery system that will pump 650,000 B/D of oil into the US. This oil will come from your closest ally, neighbor and trading partner. The supply will not be interrupted by war, politics, weather, whim, or terrorism. Even if you elect an anti-white, anti-conservative, anti-Christian fascist president, the supply will not be interrupted.
In exchange for this oil, Canada will receive little bits of colored paper, or more likely, entries on an electronic ledger denominated in US dollars.
Could you explain to me how this is a bad deal for the US?
I’m wondering about those “holdout Nebraska landowners.”
What’s their beef?
