Activists to UMich: Admit unqualified students, if they are black
The Daily Caller ^ | April 16, 2014 | Robby Soave

Activists with the radical pro-affirmative action group, By Any Means Necessary, staged a protest on Tuesday featuring a black Detroit high school student who was denied admission to the University of Michigan.

The student, Brooke Kimbrough, claimed UM rejected her because of her “morals,” and not her below-average ACT score of 23. (The average U-M student has a score between 28 and 32.)

“I believe that I have been rejected because of the morals that I stand for,” said Kimbrough, according to Fox 2 news. “I will take back my freedom as a tool to help others. I have left the plantation to get my freedom but I am coming back for you, too. I will make it my civic duty to document every news of a rejection letter that the university produces to our black, brown and red bodies.”

Kimbrough’s comments follow weeks of increasing tensions over race at U-M. BAMN activists, as well as minority students with the Black Student Union, another group, have continuously demanded increased black and Latino enrollment, even though a state constitutional amendment prohibits administrators from considering race as a factor toward admission....

Kimbrough, 17, who has a 3.5 GPA and belongs to her school’s prize-winning debate team, says she’s making a stand for herself and other minority applicants.

“It represents a bigger struggle than just me — making the community more diverse in a multitude of ways,” she said. “I know that is what U-M stands for. But the university cannot say it’s (diverse) if it doesn’t have equal representation.”

Black Studies major? It’s amazing how unifying was the election for POTUS of a black community organizer.

I think they're going to be disappointed when the supreme court finally hands down its decision on the Michigan case. The appeals court handed down a bizarre ruling that BAMN is too poor to fight so they win. The case went to the US supreme court last fall.

Activists to UMich: Admit unqualified students, if they are black

Ever notice that, if you're conservative and feel strongly about a particular issue, you are called an "extremist", but if you're liberal and feel strongly about an issue, you are called an "activist."

Yeah, why not, it would only be in defiance of a court ruling.

Her team won the ‘urban debate’ national championship?

So they have even tracked debate competitions now?

This is why I continue to harass FReepers to vote in college administration elections where ever possible. Dr Rob Steele is one of the guys running for a UofM board of regents seat.

This is what makes a college degree not worth any more than a piece of paper.

Thanks, I'll save that info. She's a race hustler, eh?
...claimed UM rejected her because of her "morals," and not ...her below-average ACT score of 23. (The average U-M student has a score between 28 and 32.) That's a tipping point -- I've never met a lib who didn't resent this particular category of entitlement regarding getting hired or school admission based on a color bar and "underutilization".

My roommate in college was black, I’m white. We didn’t know each other but were assigned to the room before Freshman year. She sent me a letter introducing herself with a picture, at 18 I didn’t think anything of it but I wonder if she was wondering if I was black or racist? Anyway, I called her that summer and we talked for two hours. I don’t remember ever filling out a questionnaire but they had us perfectly matched, conservative, grew up in a small town, lots of similar likes. We stayed roommates for the duration. The one thing that always bothered her was that she said she knew people thought she was only there because of AA. She was very much against it, as she thought it made people think she was stupid when she had the grades and test scores to get in. It also drove us both nuts when once a month we’d get a knock on the door and the radical Black Student Union would be there to recruit her. She would tell them she wasn’t interested and they’d keep sticking fliers in our mailbox and coming back. They told her she shouldn’t be roommates with me. She said why, I have more in common with her then you! They called her every name in the book. Said she was blind and betraying her race. That I was some rich white girl she was trying to be like, I’m actually quite sure her family was much better off then mine. We had an American flag up in our room and they complained about me putting up the “racist” flag. She had put up the flag, honoring her brother who was in Kuwait, and of course I had no problem with it. When they found this out she was then called brainwashed. I don’t know how she put up with it all. We had both black and white students in our group of friends, but she was constantly harassed. She would be a great person to be an administrator at UM. Then again, she wanted a real job and was into Physics!

One of the things they kind of gloss over is the reason they use the SAT and entrance exam scores above the students GPA and test scores from high school.

It appears she has a 3.5 GPA which is pretty good, better than mine was, but I went to a school in the suburbs outside Detroit. Just showing up for class and ATTEMPTING to learn in many Detroit schools can earn you an A without even trying now.

She’s not from a Detroit school, she’s from Andover in Birmingham but her ACT score is abysmal.

She’s pulling the same crap that the other BAMN students at U of M tried earlier this year with their demands.

These kids don’t have the same academic and life accomplishments as the other students entering Michigan, but like Obama, they want to be given everything they want without putting in the work.

When they get the special privileges it’s due to skin color, but when they don’t, they blame the skin.

A thinking person can’t win with this crowd.

LOL! The perpetually angry skin collective and its enablers, supporters, perpetrators, puppet-masters and capitulators strikes again.

I love how they argue that admitting more blacks will improve Michigan by making it more “diverse” (I never quite understood how this has anything to do with improving anyone’s education, but okay) - and then they turn right around and form a Black Student Union. So much for diversified interaction on campus.
