Oh yes, he probably lived. I’m just very aware of how legends spring up around charismatic men, and how many humans need some magic and mystery in their lives.

That was what the Pharisees and Sadducees of the times always had interpreted the prophecies to read...but Jesus said to Pilate..”My kingdom is not of this world, if it was my servants would fight...”

I would add that if he was on trial for his life, I hope that's what he'd say. Only a moron would say "Yes, I'm here to mount a revolution and overthrow your rule. Is there a problem?"

Thank you so very much for your reply, HTRedneck.

Many times I’ve run across the name, Hugh Ross, in searching for one thing or another. From your link I ended up on Amazon previewing some of his books. I’m going to download one today for reading over the weekend. Would you have a favorite by him, by chance, that you would recommend?

I agree with you on your impression of the world after cataclysmic events. Those worlds are mostly unknowable, but so very intriguing to ponder.

As I was reading the Bible one day … (Well, I don’t really know how to put this to words. You understand, I believe, when I say that the Holy Spirit unlocks something for you. Words really fail to describe it accurately, but I will try.) As I was reading the Bible one day, I glanced across the room for a split second and the thought hit me like a ton of bricks: “I’m reading something that means so much more than what it appears to be on the surface.” That’s as close to explaining the thought as I can get. I don’t mean just the symbologies, parallelisms, etc., but a far deeper meaning that mere words absolutely fail to convey. From that second on, reading the Bible has never been the same for me. It’s as if I’m scratching off the surface layer of something to find beneath it a universe that’s been hidden in plain sight.

The “surface layer” is true, yes indeed, but there’s so much more underneath. The Word is telling us so much more than what the … Ah! How to put it??? There’s just layer after layer after layer! It’s discovery after discovery, and memorized verses keep popping up in my mind to shed more light on more revealed truths. God is so amazing. There is no way mere humans put the Bible together solely by their own minds. A person can prove the Bible to be accurate to anyone willing to be shown the truth of it. Or, to put it more accurately, GOD proves His Word to be true to anyone willing to learn from Him.

Never was I one for science. Not until I was gobsmacked with what I wrote above. My world shifted at that moment. Now I can’t get enough of it. Science, as everything else, is His. It’s His Word that created the science now studied, and it is beautiful. The more I learn of Quantum Physics, the more taken aback I am by the verses I’ve read over the years that were then to me words that I took on faith to be true, but not then understandable. How faithful is Our Lord.

Oh! Forgive me, please, HTRedneck. I’ve gone on and on, and I fear I’ve made a fool of myself in my fervor for His Word. It’s just that it’s exciting for me whenever I “meet” another person so much engaged in, and in love with, Him and His Word, and who understands how deep it really goes.

I’ll hush it now and go back to previewing the books. Please let me know if you do have a recommendation of Ross’ work. May God bless and keep you, HTRedneck.

Warm regards,

SC

No, in all words you are clearly attempting to sow confusion here.

I am certain, and everyone else appears to be certain, but certainty is your enemy, as it dispels confusion.

How can it be confusing to explain Biblical prophecy in simple, clear language?

“The Irish still don’t consider themselves to be British?”

Yet they inhabit one of the British Isles.

“I know many Brits don’t even consider themselves to be “a part of Europe”, a fact most Americans find baffling.”

And many do. Why else would they be in the EU?

It was what Jesus said next to Pilate that really gave him a start....”Heaven allowed me to fall into your hands there fore those who delivered me into your hands have the greater sin!

It was only then that Pilate began to suspect that he was dealing with no ordinary “moron trying to save his own skin”, but in fact with someone quite beyond Pilate’s limited scope and power. The crowd was baying to have Christ killed and Pilate, known in history for his ruthlessness had a dilemma to solve. Christ had come to be our blood offering or he had to be set free. Setting him free might set the whole city on fire...or worse if Christ really was something out the ordinary the whole world and the powers of Rome would be shaken to its core if he were freed. (This sinful world and sinless God in Flesh were incompatible with each other...and one would destroy the other or vice versa.

( To heck with it, Pilate might have thought....I’ll wash my hands of this business give him over to be crucified and punt it back to this “heaven” authority this “yeshua person” talks about...heh I’ll annoy some Jews and Have inscribed on his cross...King of the Jews...I’ll do it in several languages and really blow their minds...threaten me with Caesar? Seriously? Shall I kill your king? ....On the other hand...he’d probably be a pretty good king...maybe even better than TIB....Oh I’d better not phrase the thought...that incestuous bastard even reads minds they say... better the Caesar I can see but block from my soul than a Caesar that causes such a yearning in me to worship and beg for his love that I dare not look at him in his face anymore! ...”AWAY with him!...Servant! bring me a basin, water and towel!

But why did Pilate have a dilemma? If...

1. Jesus was delivered legally into his hands,

2. Jesus had assured him that this was all Heaven's plan, even Pilate's own part in it,

3. the crowd wanted him killed,

4. and Pilate was known for his ruthlessness...

... what was the dilemma? I can see why he wouldn't set Jesus free, but why would he hesitate to have him killed?

“...why would he hesitate to have him killed?”

Probably because of speculation about the very thing you are unwilling to consider, despite the many attempts by people here to show you.

1Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

You said:If Jesus ever does come back, he won’t be establishing Israel as a Jewish kingdom, it would be as a Christian kingdom and thus not at all what the OT prophets had in mind.

Actually since gentile Christians are accepted as sons of Abraham via the spirit of adoption, it might be accurate to describe the coming kingdom as the restored Kingdom of Israel...by which the whole world is continually blessed! And that is what the prophets most assuredly meant!

“I would add that if he was on trial for his life...”

This is where you lack discernment when it comes to biblical/spiritual matters. He was on trial for YOUR life (and mine...and the life of the whole world).

Leaving aside your fanciful notions on Pilates sudden infatuation with the man standing before him, I’ll posit a more likely scenario: Jesus was accused of claiming to be the Messiah. When accused, Jesus denied any such claim. Pilates thought “this is a Jewish issue and not my concern. Damn these irritating locals and their goofy superstitions. How did I get stationed in this backwater...”

So the only answer you can come up with is that Pilates must have been struggling with something in his heart... because that is the only answer you can think of. Here’s a much more boring but plausible answer: It wasn’t his concern. Jesus wasn’t breaking Roman laws, he was upsetting Jewish sensibilities. Pilates’ response: NOT MY PROBLEM.

I was using biblical text as a guide for basing my “answer” (Mat 27:19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.)
What are you basing your “plausible answer” on? More a perfect lady understanding?
Tsk, tsk, tsk. I thought we spoke about not to leaning on that!

You really believe the Old Testament prophets thought the Messiah would be someone who would establish a new religion that is almost completely detached from Judaism? As long as it’s in the same place and can claim a spiritual link to Abraham? Wow. Can you show me anything in the Old Testament to support that suggestion?

Uh...no.

1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,

So whoever wrote the book of Matthew says that Pilates wife had dreams about Jesus, eh? So a Roman law-maker was afraid to sentence this man to death because his wife was dreaming about him? I think you and I would both do better to lean into our own understanding, particularly of human nature, than to take the word of strangers from the Middle East who wrote with a very specific agenda in mind.

You do understand that the book of Matthew wasn't written by Matthew and seems to be dated around 80 years after it all happened, right? Would you believe a Hollywood movie written decades later to glorify FDR?

When he was standing before Pilates, did Pilates bring charges against all humanity? No. He was before Pilates because he was on trial.

Not sure where you got 80 years after the fact, when most date the gospel of Matthew at between 60-80 AD.

As for someone having a bad dream or a premonition and then acting on that bad dream/premonition...that doesn’t sound too far outside the realm of human nature to me. You aren’t trying to say that people don’t do that, are you?

But to the real question: You do believe that the Book of Matthew and indeed all the books of the bible are the divinely inspired word of God, right? You do believe this, right?
