It died a year or so after I had my stretch there. Don’t miss the place at all and Charleston isn’t that special to me. It is an hour and change away and rarely go.
Most of what little I liked or knew of interest to me has long since gone away. Some parts I barely recognize. My wife ran the Cooper River Bridge and the pickup point area was barely recognizable.
I often bake dozens of cookies & put them into the freezer.
When I work an event, I take cookies for my co-workers.
Someone asked me if these cookies were low-cal.
I said -Not only NO, but Hell No!!!
Why would I EVER want to eat a low cal cookie? Cookies only taste good when made with real butter. Except peanut butter ones. They take Crisco.
I have a recipe for a potato casserole which is called ‘A Heart Attack on the Plate”. Everyone loves them & I never have leftovers=-—even from the pickiest of eaters.
Been a long time for me also. Remember the smell quite well though. The smell became evident about five miles from city limits, if the wind was blowing west.
Libs can’t stand anyone being happy OR successful. In both instances it’s because they are to cowardly to pursue their dreams of the things that give them joy, and it burns them to no end that other people aren’t afraid to.
It’s part of the whole crab in a bucket thing. And their “Inner Defeatist”. A persons inner defeatist will sabotage their efforts at obtaining any goal or joy because to do so would take them out of their comfort zone and begin the destruction of their preconceived notions about how the world works. To that end, they self sabotage.
With respect to others, it kills them to see success and happiness, so they will go out of their way to explain to another person how anything they are striving for will not succeed or will be taken etc...
These people drive me nuts, they are toxic. My SO’s whole family is infected with it, and she herself was for a while until I learned it out of her ;-)
In our early years whenever I set a goal or committed to something I would get a lot of “It’s never going to happen, we won’t do this, It’ll be the same as always”. I literally looked at her one day and said “You know what? If you don’t have anything good or positive to say about something I say we’re going to get done or acquired, you need to SHUT THE F*** UP! When I say it’s going to get done or happen I mean it. I DON’T commit with the intent to fail or not follow though!”
It’s like Oddballs frustration in Kelly’s Heroes. “ENOUGH with the negative waves Moriarity!”
They constantly amaze me with their lack of being able to conceptualize the association of success with work. One of their preconceived notions is that ANY amount of gained wealth or other material goodness that doesn’t come with a form W-2 or 1099 attached and in any way exceeds those normal accruals for a year for a given person is some type of ill gotten gain.
I only fly over that part of the country and make fuel stops !
Also love the waitresses, most of whom are named after semi-precious gems...like Ruby,Pearl,Opal,Crystal...etc.
Mmmm-mmm. ‘And a small cup of jalapeños for my hash browns, please.’
¡Ay, caramba!
A question ... That tall bridge where if going north out of Charleston over to Mt. Pleasant (iirc). Do you happen to know if they ever repaired or replaced that bridge? That bridge was scary (imho). Hated driving across that one.
The Ravenel Bridge is a new cable-stay bridge that replaced the old iron monstrosity. It’s a great bridge.
Glad to hear that. That old one made me want to close my eyes sometimes with the dips and sometimes unable to see what lay ahead. Thank You for the information.
So this creature Tallmadge is one of the denizens infesting the District of Corruption. It figures.
Waffle House is the only thing with soul on Christmas Day drive home.....mighty nice to get a cheap great tasting meal from a “howdy shugah” kinda gal.
Ought to make the drive along the coast sometime through Mississippi and Alabama - don’t take the interstate. Just beautiful country. We drove back from Pass Christian to Houston last summer and decided to count the number of Waffle Houses we passed. Stopped counting at 100.
There is a restaurant right on the Gulf in Pass Christian that has some of the best fried green tomatoes I’ve ever had in all my life. Looking forward to returning.
One of the metrics that FEMA uses to determine the scale of a storm and the amount of disaster recovery assistance needed is The Waffle House Index.
Yes, Scoutmaster. This time was not kidding. The information I had was courtesy of a former Army Person whom happens to be my primary doctor. He hates me and loves my wife. I understand though and my doctor and I get along fine. He (my doctor) is very informed and shares many stories with me when I visit him. He is more informed than I. I understand how unbelievable I sounded with all the kidding I do but for this one was serious and knew my doctor would not lie to me. Realize my information is regional and does not apply nationwide.
Whenever I’m “in country” the Chicken Fried Steak at the Haus is a must have.
That’s about the only thing I miss in Norway is Chicken/Country Fried Steak with over-medium eggs and hash browns. Hard Rock Cafe you used to serve it but I must have been the only one ordering it.
