Nevada Cattle Rancher Wins ‘Range War’ With Feds

This is the power of social media. This is the power of personal video cameras. This is the power of citizen journalists. And the next time Senator Feinstein calls for “licencing” only “legitimate journalists,” that the 1st Amendment only extends to people who work at the New York Times, Washington Post, or MSNBC, remember this moment. This is how the bullies with the power, the cronies and their allies, are turned back.

Dianne Feinstein First Amendment Is A Special Privilege

This is not about a rancher owing the Bureau of Land Management money. This is about a federal government which just assumed control of public land years ago (not government land like military bases or federal courthouses – though the taxpayers do pay for these too) changing the rules and telling citizens to lump it. It’s about a central authorities passing regulations in Washington with little regard, indeed contempt for the little guy out in flyover country.

Well the little guy stood up this time and other little guys came to his aid. This is how it’s done. Film it. Share it. Get the word out.

And always remember your 1st Amendment right. It is the 1st Amendment for a reason.

(From ABC News)

However, today the BLM said it would not enforce a court order to remove the cattle and was pulling out of the area.

“Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public,” BLM Director Neil Kornze said.

“We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner,” he said.

The roundup began April 5, following lengthy court proceedings dating back to 1993, federal officials said. Federal officers began impounding the first lot of cows last weekend, and Bundy responded by inviting supporters onto his land to protest the action.

“It’s not about cows, it’s about freedom,”

Copy. I gather from the cover blub that I’m watching reality overtake fiction before I have even read the fiction ...

They might just back off for another 10 years and wait him out. I think Korn whatever his name is, may have been trying to do a triumphal entry into his newly confirmed position, while appeasing the high dollar donors of the Center for Biological Diversity and it blew up in his face.

Kornhead is a politician and a bureaucrat, which are chickensh*ts by nature. They thrive on admiration and shrink from approbation. He’s very likely to just lay low for a very long while. Especially since he’s really a political appointee and not career BLM. He’s gonna need time to consolidate his position after being embarrassed nationally.

Unless there is some unknown factor that makes getting the cows off an urgent matter, they may return to the previous benign neglect of the last 20 years.

Most FReepers I’ve read don’t assume that at all. We just don’t know how Obastard/Withholder and Company are going to come down on Bundy.

The LameStream Media is pushing the “It’s Over” story all over the place, and are they in for a surprise. The 19th is only a few days away now....

That's just it. I think there is a reason to hurry, hurry, hurry, and if it ever became widespread knowledge it would go very badly for the Rats. The Reid/Chinese energy thing seems to be the most likely. If they want that land, they want it yesterday.

When in doubt, follow the money, and in Nevada, that's a straight shot to Reid's filthy pockets.

I think the urgency is to have the “offest” declared so Reid's Chi-com friends can start their solar project.

They can’t touch that land. Hello, what part of offsite mitigation do you not understand? Go look at a map. Nobody is building a solar energy plant between the two fingers of Lake Mead where all the water in the entire state of Nevada is when the entire rest of the state is bone dry useless desert.

It remains offsite mitigation whether there are cows on it or not. Clark County made that trade off back in 1998 when they bought out and retired the remaining grazing leases so they could continue develop other areas in the county (mostly at the edges of Las Vegas).

In some ways this is very like the original Sagebrush Rebellion of the 90’s. Clinton gets elected and the loony left goes bonkers with their Christmas wishlist of ways to stick it to the right. Bruce Babbit and Jim Baca start their machinations regarding stricter management of BLM lands (i.e. squeeze the ranchers off).

20 years later, same deal with loon left appointees under Obama, only there is a slight time delay due to the difficulty in getting confirmations through and the fact that Ocare sucked up so much of the available political capital.

The Biologically Diverse were suing or threatening to sue back then too.

What I see, is the same government incompetence and piss poor planning that always occurs when the desk jockeys think they have the upper hand.

It’s already designated as a mitigation area. Clark County did that back in 1998 when they bought out all the remaining leases and retired them.

It really may boil down to Kornhead being a showboating dumbass.

I thought the final approval from the Interior department had not occurred due to the “trespass” cattle. Think I read that on the stuff from BLM itself.

God we are in serious trouble is this was all showboating for the new guy.

You are correct when you way they don;t want "that land." However, "that land" is critical to the equation because of the offset. If the cattle remain, the whole deal is off.

Hello, what part of offsite mitigation do you not understand?

You needn't be insulting to make your point. I oversimplified without changing the main point. Sue me.

What I see, is the same government incompetence and piss poor planning that always occurs when the desk jockeys think they have the upper hand.

I agree with that and just about everything else 100%.

There was a Sheriff there who brought a $2,500 donation from a website and some politicians, in their adjoining state, to help with the families expenses. The check was hand delivered to one of Bundy’s daughters.

Be cautious giving money as many false sites always go up when there's an appeal for monetary help...especially in events and causes such as this. Even some legitimate sites will skim off the top for administration fees etc. I'd be more inclined to send directly to the family, without a middle man.

The deal is not predicated on the removal of the cattle:

Non-Governmental Organizations have expressed concern that the regional mitigation strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone utilizes Gold Butte as the location for offsite mitigation for impacts from solar development, and that those restoration activities are not durable with the presence of trespass cattle.

Read more at http://libertyunyielding.com/2014/04/12/feds-want-relocate-desert-tortoise-chinese-solar-farm-sponsored-harry-reid/#ioWYV6dZShsy4QOO.99

This is bureaucratese for Environmentalists have threatened to sue us (BLM) if we don't get the cattle off. The BLM is perfectly happy to leave the cattle on and collect both grazing fees and mitigation fees for the same acreage, it's a two-fer!

But the enviro's are also big Obama and Reid donors and they've wanted ranchers off of western lands since the 70's. They saw the elections of first Clinton and then Obama as opportunities to push their agenda and Reid is just their tired old whore

One thing keep in mind...China always wants “ownership” seldom “leasing” if at all...and they will pressure those handling the deals to get that.

Reids deal for Nevada land is a purchase/ownership... deal...not leasing. So the Cinese will own the land.

Then I was confused. Thanks for clearing it up. Seriesly.

I was just following the money and made the seemingly obvious connection between the Chinese energy firms and Reid’s pockets. I assumed the Environuts didn’t have the swag necessary to get the attention of a big-time grifter like Reid.
