Given the millions of Ukrainians murdered by Stalin in the 1930's, I would not think it surprising that they allied with whoever was opposing the Communists.

The Holodomor was a horrific genocide. Stalin burnt a visceral hatred of Russia into the Ukraine’s genes.

Nazism and Communism both create hideous left-wing totalitarian states that grind people underfoot. This is not surprising because they are practically identical - as similar and as brutally tyrannical as mob-bosses Dutch Schultz or Lucky Luciano.

During WW2 we were lucky enough to witness these two vast and powerful socialist terror-states beat up on each other; again like mob-bosses fighting over turf.
