LOS ANGELES When Los Angeles school lunch bureaucrats realized their new menu of sushi and broccoli and beef with brown rice was roundly rejected by students last year, their attitude was try, try again.
black bean mountainThis school year, theyll be offering what they think are more tantalizing dishes such as taco salad and chicken and waffles.
But the L.A. Daily News reports it will be potato and chive waffles with no sugar added, to stay in compliance with new federal lunch regulations championed by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Students will also be dining on a black bean mountain along with a cucumber and tomato salad and a warm pear and raisin compote.
Perhaps the bureaucrats strategy is to starve the kids into slimming down. Do they really think this fare will go over any better?
Food Services chief David Binkle called the waffle savory and believes it will be a successful product.
The school district estimates students threw away more than 8 million meals last year, according to the paper.
Its just the latest example of a string of problems created by the federal overhaul of school lunches.
A report from the Government Accountability Office cited increased food waste, loss of school revenue due to decreased sales and increased administrative costs among the headaches created by the new regulations.
Maybe they should do it like Korean schools.
Give them a big bowl of rice and let them choose 3 or 4 from an array of “side dishes”.
:p
What’s that brown stuff on top of the “mountain”?
black bean mountain....oh my I must restrain myself from making all the obvious jokes....
I don’t know many adults who would want to eat this crap.....
Considering that Mooch and Company eat more lobster and Kobe beef than anyone else in the world I guess she is just feeling guilty about the starving students....let them eat beans
If they give you a mountain of black beans then you can make jjajangmyeon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jajangmyeon
And Moochelle will eat Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes with gravy, and Cornbread. Just like she did on Paula Dean’s cooking show.
My guess is in LA they won’t be using soy beans they will indeed be using something more familiar to all of those illegal students who they are so happily instructing.
One evening as the sun went down
And the hood fires were burning,
Down the track came a liberal hiking,
And he said, “Boys, I’m not turning
I’m headed for a land that’s far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we’ll go and see
The Big Black Bean Mountain
In the Big Black Bean Mountain,
There’s a land that’s fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep in section 8 every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And you get a Obamaphone every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The Purple Drank springs
Where the rappers sing
In the Big Black Bean Mountain.
When in hell did Michelle Obama get the right to dictate our eating habits? Why is anybody going along with her bs? Why is there no controlling legal authority over these people in the White House?
This is great satire!
bump
she is not elected or appointed to anything and she still has a huge staff
1. Who made this b***h ‘National School Lunch Commissar? and,
2. Who gave her husband a book of blank checks to the US Treasury?
The only thing I would eat MAYBE is the cucumber and tomato salad. However, with those skin on them, I may pass on that too. The rest looks awful.
Do you think American kids could eat like this daily?
Where is the bread? (bought separately or bring your own)
"Side dishes vary"... they mean it... corn dog??
I am pretty sure the dried green stuff is laver... dried seaweed?
Is that Spaghetti in the back left side?
Hey Ajhumma, whats for lunch?
"Clockwise from top left: seokbakji (pickled radish, thickly sliced); baked potato wedges sprinkled with parsley and parmesan powder and half a tomato; stir-fried seafood udon; samgyetang; rice with mixed grains."
might as well eat the paper
Believe me, by the afternoon you KNEW it when they served Mexican at lunch that day!
