Byron York: Winning Hispanic vote would not be enough for GOP
Washington Examiner ^ | May 2, 2013 | Byron York

Posted on 05/03/2013 10:27:43 AM PDT by Will88

"But what if Romney had been able to reach a mind-blowing 70 percent of the Hispanic vote? Surely that would have meant victory, right? No, it wouldn't. Romney still would have lost, although by the narrowest of electoral margins, 270 to 268. (Under that scenario, Romney would have won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College; he could have racked up huge numbers of Hispanic votes in California, New York and Texas, for example, and not changed the results in those states."

Time to self deport. Where? I don’t know. Certainly not here.

“Hate to be a bucket of cold water here, but the demographic changes are not in our favor.”

Screw the demographics. We used to go out there with a message and the attitude that we could win, if we could just communicate our message to the people, because our message was right.

Now people just want to throw up their hands and say “it’s the demographics!”. Well, the demographics shouldn’t matter if you have the right message. Vote fraud shouldn’t matter if you have the right message. Welfare leeches shouldn’t matter if you have the right message. We need to get back to the fundamentals.

I wish we could, but the demographic problems are not what you think they are.

Last May, the Pew Hispanic Center, in a study based on U.S. and Mexican statistics, reported that net migration from Mexico to this country had fallen to zero from 2005 to 2010.

In a nutshell:

What’s way up among working class whites are out of wedlock births and males dropping out of the workforce.

I do see some hope.

According to a recent study by Harvard University's Institute of Politics, voters aged 18 29 are not clamoring for more gun control, even after the tragedies in Colorado and at Sandy Hook elementary school.

The GOPe always take the conservative whitey vote for granted. They think we have no alternative but to vote Republican. They never seem to realize that another choice is to just stay home and not vote...

“..one more illustration of how the Republicans in pursuit of the Hispanic vote are wasting their while losing many white votes from voters who are offended and sick of GOPe pandering to groups.”

It reminds me of how Republicans focused on the Independents! Well, Romney got the Independent vote this time, but STILL LOST!

Time for the Republicans to be concerned about energizing the BASE!

Demographics will continue to go against whitey as long as whitey continues to feed the “democrats.”

These groups have multiple children, or come to this country illegally, because whitey subsidizes their lifestyle. What 12 kids with 12 different fathers? Sure, no problem. Whitey will give you money - mo’ kids, mo’ money.

What happens when there is an economic collapse and whitey can no longer pay for all these democratic voters? Well, aside from riots, there will be more of a balancing out of demographics...

Tell me Freepers: Which segment of the white vote are we not getting but that are not? We are not getting secular whites, white single women, and white single moms. What, pray tell, do we do to get these folks, none of whom seem to like conservatism? I see no evidence of a “hidden conservative vote” anywhere. Hence, why I am despondent when I look at the numbers.

Anderson’s voters were socially liberal suburbanites, many of whom now vote Dem. Even in looking solely at white America, this is a vastly different country than the one in 1980. If you were 30 in 1980, you are now 63.

I remember too that the foolish Bob Dole wouldn’t let Pat Buchanan speak in San Diego in 1996; couldn’t have helped Dole in the least. Then E. Dole took the Helms seat and squandered it away.

You seem to be saying that whitey is too dumb to know what he is doing. So true! It’s all about “sexual freedom” now.

nothing wrong with conservative message

problem is whites are the only group that a majority listens and lives it

can't make folks drop culture rot and dependence

they know better...they just lack the discipline or urge

and we are becoming less white quick

folks act like there is something we can say to make blacks and latinos and orientals like us

i mean really

ok ya’ll...drop abortion, welfare, affirmative action, college quotas, amnesty, local corruption, voter fraud, crime in your neighborhoods, whitey as a target, each other as targets, 50-80% illegitimacy, and so forth

i mean how can we preach that to them and get them to do right?

lol

hell they already know...back when they really were discriminated against...they behaved better

tell me why?

when i grew up less than 20% of black community was broken

they knew...they were Christian and valued mom and dad 80%

they simply have found it's easier to be like this

Dems helped it along but it's more than that

you have white areas with plenty libs and they haven't collapsed the same

they are irksome places to live but they function

Nice stream of thought...

Worth pointing out that Whites have too often proven to be crappy role models; however, not the fault of liberty minded Christian Conservatives whether they be White, Yellow, Brown, Black.

Tell me Freepers: Which segment of the white vote are we not getting but that are not?

The belief is that portions of the Republican base, the most conservative voters, are staying home out of disgust with RINO presidential candidates. It's no secret that the GOPe are embarrassed by real conservatives and want them to just shut-up, get out of sight, and vote Republican on election day.

We heard nothing about the Tea Party at the Tampa convention and Sarah Palin was nowhere in sight. It was apparent to anyone with modest powers of observation that the more conservative elements of the party had been intentionally left out.

Such arrogance is bound to cost votes.

Anderson’s voters were socially liberal suburbanites, many of whom now vote Dem.

Many of Anderson's votes were Rockefeller Republicans who'd been fighting against Reagan since 1976 and before, and Goldwater before that. And they are the same ones who've been trying to undo Reagan's conservatism since he left office, the same folks who gave up Dole, McCain, Romney and 'compassionate conservatism".

Anderson was a quirky candidate who took some votes from Carter and Reagan, a total of 8% of the vote in 1980.

What segment of the white vote is the GOP not getting? Easy to answer: Can be summed up in three basic groups:

1) White Jewish voters
2) White gay voters.
3) White union members.

If you could factor out these whites from the equation, the GOP share of the white probably rises from the current 60% to something like 80%. Of course there are liberal white voters who don’t fall into the three categories mentioned above, but it is a very small remainder.

why do we always qualify when we mention white folks in general?

even i do it on occasion

we always just have to qualify any generalization about whites with “well...there are bad ones”

then when generalizing about any minority we always qualify the other way...

blacks...well....there are good ones Sowell and Watts or “I have one black guy in my town and he's votes GOP”....that one always kills me..a well known northern poster always says that one

or lib Jews...well there is mark Levin...the great one

or latinos...hey now..Ted Cruz or Rubio...or “now I have a Mexican neighbor and he's great”

muslims...now lets’ don't forget the moderate peaceful ones

i probably qualify my generalizations less mostly being from a majority black environment as a white guy most of my life

but i do it too...in polite company...it's a reflex...we are like trained dogs

but the real kernel is:

they don't ever do it about us when discussing us

you're a good guy...not picking on you just observing you doing same thing i often do

>> why do we always qualify [one way or the other]

Manners and convenience I suppose.

Unfortunately, blunt, critical analysis isn’t worth fending off the undisciplined scorn one is guaranteed to receive in the realm of casual, public discourse. I guess I’m lazy in this regard.

I’ve surmised there is no racial generality impervious to another. I can draw hard lines on philosophy, religion, and gender, but not race nor intelligence (regardless of gender.)
