It is time for a dishwasher. My last dishwasher was replaced three times by the manufacturer before I ripped it out and started handwashing. time to go back to dishwashers and I cannot find a timed dishwasher, just ones that are ENERGY EFFIEICENT with sensors.
The biggest problem I had with the newer untimed dishwashers is that I would have to rinse the dishes instead of scraping them.
the second problem is that because I did not rinse them, they ran for six to eight hours becaus there was debris that the sensors picked up.
Lousy design.
I am looking for a good dishwasher, that can actually be effective and clean the dishes now that the EPA doesnt permit us to have phosphates. Or timed washes.
Any war stories? Most of the dishwasher reviews out there aree actually paid ad reviews placed by an agent of the manufacturer.
Forget consomer reports.
I will try to find it. I cannot tell you how unsettling it was to hold a box of TSP and have it say NO PHOSPHATES.
Sort of like the rest of the double-speak of the leftist world.

Here is a first generation hand cranked field dishwasher. However, I can imagine a far more efficient version, about the same size, but powered with a small motor. It would take about as much effort as pre-washing dishes before you put them in a washing machine.

Well, I know when my husband came back from one trip, he did get questioned and had to actually pull over for a while. He was afraid they were going to confiscate them. Anyway, they let him go on his way; but, this was some time ago, 15 maybe 20 years so it is probably worse now since I think Canada now has the same enviro-disease.
It is wonderful, isn't it? Making honest people into criminals over how much water your toilet uses.
I know I ignore mine until there's a pandemic. ;)
Besides, I think the fumes from the solvent the carburator in the bathroom sink is soaking in kills bacteria.

So you pre-wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher? How many more seconds would it take to completely wash the dishes and stack them in the drainer? Look at it as therapy. PS - In Spokane, WA., TSP is outlawed. People drive over to Idaho to buy it.

You, as a consumer are not permitted to have a hot or warm rinse either.

I have a question; do you just lie when the page comes up saying you must affirm that you are buying this for commercial/industrial use only? My hubby says, just mark the box and order it; but, I am an honest person so I don’t know what to do. Hubby is now telling me that this is what our government has done to us -— make liars and cheats out of honest people. He just asked; “hey, we’re industrious people, aren’t we?”
We replaced a REALLY old, rusty-racked dishwasher that was several years old when it was given to me. And I fixed it about 3 times and still used it for about 15 years. Like you, I was fearful that the EPA and the green brigade had probably totally screwed things up so that the new models would do a crappy job and wind up costing more $ in the long run by requiring you to run it 3 times to get things clean. (think water-savings toilets...)
To my surprise and delight — the new one has been great! The tubs have been redesigned so that there’s far more room for more dishes and larger items that would never fit in our old one. For example, one side of the lower rack can accommodate a 16” pizza screen, standing vertically! And there’s still an inch or 2 to spare.
There are special compartments for silverware, different levels in the upper rack for various glass heights, a flip-down holder that secures the stems of wine glasses, a couple of other small clips that hold lighter (think plastic) items in places, etc. On some of the higher-end models, the upper rack can be moved up or down a couple of inches to meet special needs.
The tub on our model is stainless steel, and the racks are not the old vinyl-dipped steel that was susceptible to knife cuts and subsequent rusting. They’re made of a solid material that’s very strong and impervious to rust.
It’s much quieter than the old one — yay! And it’s supposedly uses less electricity and less hot water. That’s fine — as long as it cleans. And it DOES clean very effectively. There are steam and sanitizing cycles that we very rarely use, but they’re there if we need ‘em.
We are very happy with this appliance, thus far. I’ve read a lot of bad reports about new-tech, front-loading washing machines, but this has been a very pleasant surprise. I’ve heard that dishwashers don’t last as long as the older models, but if they continue to clean as long as they last, I won’t mind shelling out another $400 in a few years.
BTW — the brand that we bought was Maytag.
I saw another dishwashing person recommend that you run your kitchen sink tap water until it's hot. I do the same with mine, because I have a gas water heater which is more efficient than the DW heater they have built in to the machine. See, I know how to save energy...and can do a better job than nimrod regulators. I also run the tap water for my washing machine in the laundry room for the same reason, since my Bosch washing machine can super heat the water for loads.
