Hurricane Sandy From Space

NASA

Just in case you thought the Hurricane hype couldn't get any louder, check out this dispatch from Weather Channel meterologist Stu Ostro:

- History is being written as an extreme weather event continues to unfold, one which will occupy a place in the annals of weather history as one of the most extraordinary to have affected the United States.

- REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS NOW OR AT/AFTER LANDFALL -- HURRICANE (INCLUDING IF "ONLY" A CATEGORY ONE), TROPICAL STORM, POST-TROPICAL, EXTRATROPICAL, WHATEVER -- OR WHAT TYPE OF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER -- PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM NEED TO HEED THE THREAT IT POSES WITH UTMOST URGENCY...

- With Sandy having already brought severe impacts to the Caribbean Islands and a portion of the Bahamas, and severe erosion to some beaches on the east coast of Florida, it is now poised to strike the northeast United States with a combination of track, size, structure and strength that is unprecedented in the known historical record there...

- A meteorologically mind-boggling combination of ingredients is coming together:

I don’t know... The problem here won’t be the winds... It’s gonna be all the precip.

Full Moon
Nor’easter from hell
Storm serge will bring the water level up to places that we’ve never seen.

I have my Genny and an adequate supply of food and cocktails... And I am lucky enough to be high up on a hill outside of Philly. So it is a non event for me. Wishing all those in it’s path good luck including my family along the river here.

Battan down the hatches and hand me a Stella!

And there’s a LOT of leaves on the trees for wind to catch. Add soaked soil and it ain’t going to be pretty.

Keep safe there DJMWW.

No offense, we can laugh at this together, but the weather imagery posted as live-cams are ridiculously unchanged for hours. Take the first few, especially the first "Live-cam of Coney Island hardly looks live with plenty of light to see.

I’m right here with you on the UES.

Irene didn’t even tinkle on us. I’m hoping for the same but am prepared... (whatever that means, I have tons of food, water and flashlights..../shrug).

Like that the Romney site has already included links to Sandy donations on the main page.

Good move.

Obama’s site does as well, but it takes numerous page clicks to get to the main Obama page with the link.

Follow Ryan Maue on Twitter. He is an awesome weather dude and conservative. You can trust why he says. Also Joe Bastardi with weather bell. They both think it is gonna be pretty bad but you will get good info.

Prayers up for all in harms way!

>>If the full impact of this storm hits at high tide, a great deal of people are going to get a very bad surprise.

Locally (CT), they are predicting 4 high tides before the storm surge is over.

It will delay the election if it is as bad as it looks. Can’t vote with no electric voting machines and flooded out voting stations. Can’t get to the polls with the roads clogged with water/snow/ice and debris and subways closed down.

It will give the left great opportunity for extra special voter fraud. But at the same time, Obama will not be able to centrally control the recovery like liberals think the Federal government can do.

If that happens, the meaning of delays and shortages of labor and materials in socialism will come to the forefront in very unhappy ways for millions of liberals. Liberals will meet the incompetence and untender mercies of Obama’s DHS police state pervert culture, too. :(

I pray this storm breaks up and spares our people in the Northeast. No way I would stay around or go to a FEMA shelter during this storm.

Most of our leaves are down here in SE Connecticut. We’re predicted to be on the windy side, so those leaves on the ground are nice for me to see.

I was home (also a college freshman, but community college) wanted to go see my boyfriend, his birthday. My parents wouldn’t let me go (LOL) The snow was coming “down” horizontally. We could only see about 2 feet past the windows.

It was the low pressure that made that thing so nasty.

I’m on the UES, too...Irene resulted in waking up to two twigs in front of my building. The stores were mobbed this morning...I spent hours getting a few provisions. Stay safe, FRiend!

the boy who cried wolf. One day we won’t listen to these idiots.

I think the media shares some of the blame for Katrina. They cry wolf and over-hype every weather event so much that people ignore them.

Then when the worst happens they have the rest of the left to cover for them by pointing fingers.

He is more credible than any armchair meteorologist, I am quite sure of that.

Yup a Cat 1, and look at that front line ~ there's some power in that ~ you don't often see one like that ~ from the Arctic to the Equator.

Then, the area covered by this storm now is about 900 miles wide ~ Do a pi r squared deal on this ~ pi =3.17 (cutting you some slack) times 450 X 450 = square miles. HUGE NUMBER

You were aware these tropical systems usually never encompass an area so large that you find Illinois and Indiana in it at the same time the storm center is several hours out from coming ashore.

This is MANY TIMES the size of Katrina.

BTW, they don't usually rate a nor'easter as a CAT anything.

Take care, be safe. I’m pretty well prep’ed unless lots of trees come down, but then it will just be a matter of firing up the chainsaw and lots and lots of work.
