Obama talks of limiting some gun use in wake of Colorado massacre

President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado.

Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.

"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

in all fairness, the constitutional law classes that bambam took at indonesia elementary didnt cover the fact that citizens had just finished using battlefield weapons to secure their FReedoms and put meat on the table...

Bingo, bans are useless because wrong doers will find a way to get weapons regardless.

“Yeah. In his first act he took Romney’s socialized healthcare plan and idea for an auto bailout.

Maybe in the 2nd term, he could use Romney’s assault weapons ban in Mass as a blueprint.”

EXACTLY. And it’s funny how we don’t like Obama for implementing policy copied directly from Mitt Romney... so we’re going to try to replace him... with Mitt Romney.

” it must be easier and surer to just cast a vote for Romney, the ONLY reasonable way of ensuring that Obama won’t get another unconstrained 4 years to destroy the country as we know it.”

You know what the difference between Obama and Romney are?
Romney actually DID ban assault weapons. Obama’s just threatening to.

But if there’s an R next to his name that makes it ok I guess...

“The president, however, suggested Wednesday that it “shouldn’t be controversial” to make the case that a “mentally unbalanced” person shouldn’t be able to get a gun so easily.” So, is Obama prepared to suggest that we make people’s mental health history a public record? So, I (an FFL) will be able to check to see if my gun customer has ever been treated by a psychologist and that will be grounds for denying them their 2nd Amendment civil liberties?

I would like to know why once having accepted psychiatric treatment should be a bars against ever owning a weapon. I think that’s is one reason returning soldiers don’t seeking help. To do so means the forfeiture of a precious right.

I wouldn’t considered getting help under that threat.

In the near future identical acting events will likely occur, a shooter pulls out a phaser inside a packed 3-d virtual reality theater vaporizing hundreds, politicians scramble to limit the use of phasers only for the space military peacekeepers.

So Earth’s population must revert back to the antiquated gas propellant cased bullets,

Earth is invaded by an alien species whose own planetary diet consists of human-burgers. In time planet Earth becomes nothing more than a galactic fast food stop for aliens consuming people nuggets.

Moral of the story, get the most advanced weapon possible, when the time arises USE that weapon to get a better one.

Obama on gun control?

Mr. Executive Priviledge on Fast and Furious wants to talk about gun control?

OK. Drop the EP and by all means, let's talk about gun control as headed by the DOJ and the White Hut.

If a volunteer soldier uses his weapon, that citizen would be “Zimmered” by his own gubment, media, and lynched by a crowd of drug dealers while Katie Couric squealed in delight.

This moron just like the rest of the Lib’s don’t realize that it’s the illegal guns in the hands of street hoods that are doing all the killing.

That's incorrect. They DO realize it. They're OK with street hoods having guns, as long as the hoods stick to killing each other, or the occasional non-Elite middle-class person.

They are against the middle-class being armed, because that makes the middle-class harder to intimidate into going along with socialism. When your main argument is "We need to pass this program to avoid street violence", the one thing the Dems don't want to hear is "We don't care. Bring it, MoFo's"

Maybe in the 2nd term, he could use Romney’s assault weapons ban in Mass as a blueprint.

I have said the same many times; that Romney signed a permanent AWB.

I was wrong!
You are wrong.

I am ashamed to say I got fooled by this narrative, but finally found this article by Jim Wallace of GOAL, the Mass. gun-owners rights lobby. This is the same lobby that stopped dead in its tracks the effort to ban all handguns in Mass. They are trustworthy.

I feel a little sheepish letting myself be fooled like that and hope to save others that feeling. P.

Exactly. The second amendment isnt for enthusiasts or hunters. It is to stop authorities who come to confiscate our large sodas. And no true American would have an AK-47, the communist weapon of choice.

Are you saying that Romney is worse than Obama and we should just reelect Obama? THAT is the point of your post.

Are you starting a “FReepers and Conservatives for Obama” group?

With the virtually certain ouster of Obama this fall, the present Zimmering has got to fail, and fail publicly. Nothing less is a vindication of sanity.

The Aurora shooter carried an AR-15.

Does any military in the world buy, or even consider this weapon to meet their specifications for a military assault rifle?

I just re-upped with the NRA today. Finally took the Life Memberhip this time. With any luck they will stop pestering me for early renewal. ;-)

To the anti-NRA crowd: the NRA may not be as ideologically "pure" as YourFavoriteLittleGunGroup, but they are the most influential. They can actually get pro-gun people elected and get laws changed. We can argue about the details after gun control has been a dead letter for a few generations.
