AFP/YahooNews ^ | 2/1/12

A German pensioner who had kept a tub of lard in his cupboard for 64 years, took it to authorities who pronounced it very much fit for consumption -- if a little tasteless.

Retired chemist Hans Feldmeier, 87, told AFP he had received the pig fat as a student in 1948 near the northern city of Rostock as part of the post-war US aid programme.

I was surprised my supermarket still has lard - glad they did.

I'll have to try 'lard roux'

I’m sure if a tribe of cannibals got ahold of me, they would deem this 66 year old ‘tub of lard’ still eadible, too. And I’m not even heat and pressure sealed!

Lard is actually a very good metal grease and is used in production and lubrication of firearms and especially ammunition.

Every time a muzzie gets nailed he gets a nice pork surprise

(i don't know if this is true - but it's a great rumor to start, isn;t it?)

I make my own lard - have an organic farmer that supplies me with fat back. (You can still get lard in the store - “Hormels’s” - but it’s been hydrogenated. not healthy.

I render my fat back in he oven - at 250 degrees for aoubt an hour - mashing it down often, then straining and putting up in sterilized jars.

Organic lard - like our mama’s and gramma’s made, is actually very healthy - and sure makes things taste good - also, a higher burning point that O.O. and other fats/oils.

Who’s welcome? Did you send that lard over? I like how some folks like to take credit for a past generations deeds like they did them themselves.

My parents paid for that lard through their taxes. Since they are both dead, I'm here to accept the thanks of the 87 year old German, who, thanks to the generosity of my parents and millions of other Americans, paid for the aid that kept them alive after WW2 and during the Berlin Airlift.

Now, shut up, putz.

Wonder who got that job.

Executive Officer Martin T. 'Marty' Pascal: Jesus, Buckman! This stuff's been on the Stingray since Korea! This can expired in 1966!
Seaman Buckman: [tasting contents of can] What's the matter sir? It still tastes like creamed corn.
Executive Officer Martin T. 'Marty' Pascal: Except it's - DEVILED HAM!
Seaman Buckman: Now that would be a problem.
