New Rasmussen poll in FL puts Romney up by 8 (17 point swing in just 3 days !!)
Hotair ^ | 01/26/2012 | Ed Morrissey

Mitt Romney’s performance in Monday’s debate turned out to be a game-changer after all. Three days after a Rasmussen poll of likely Republican primary voters showed Newt Gingrich up by nine points, a new survey taken yesterday shows Romney has an eight-point lead heading into tonight’s CNN debate:

Mitt Romney has jumped back ahead in the fevered Florida Republican Primary race with his support back to where it was before Newt Gingrich’s big win Saturday in South Carolina.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Florida Republican Primary Voters, taken Wednesday night, shows Romney with 39% support to Gingrich’s 31%. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum earns 12%, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with nine percent (9%). Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

That’s a ten-point drop for Gingrich since Sunday’s survey, and a seven-point gain for Romney. The momentum of the debate performance, and perhaps the renewed aggression on the campaign trail for Romney, seems to be firmly established in new polling. That makes tonight a must-win evening for Gingricg, and that probably means a lot of bloody knuckles for both men.

Let’s take a look at the differences in the internals. Very conservative voters still choose Gingrich as the stronger candidate against Obama, but that’s down to 47/34 from 56/24 in the earlier survey. Women had given a three-point edge to Romney on this question, but that has now jumped to 22 points, 52/30, and men now give Romney a nine-point lead where Gingrich had a double-digit advantage. The overall rating on this question now favors Romney by 15 points, 49/34, where Gingrich led by 3 on Sunday. Gingrich’s favorability didn’t change much at 63/35, but Romney’s increased to 73/25.

This looks like a very volatile race, though. A big debate stumble by Romney could reverse this yet again. However, with the tax issue off the table and every other line of attack likely to be a rerun, there’s a question about whether Gingrich can find another way to knock Romney off his stride as he did in South Carolina, or go after the media like he did to win in two debates there.

Thank you!

Because you reminded me of this most precious and comforting TRUTH:

"And we know that in all things God works together for the good of those who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28 NIV)

It IS our prayers that Newt needs the most right now, and not just for his own sake, but for the sake of our nation!

This election is not just a contest between the Democrats and Republicans: it is a contest between those who understand how VITAL it is for us to put our trust in God and those who have NO TRUST in God, and TRULY BELIEVE that they themsleves can take His place in GOVERNING our lives!

Newt knows this--we need to pray that tonight he speak this TRUTH--boldly--not to "promote his career", but to "defend the faith"!

So--we need to NOT be "anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present ...[our]...requests to God", so that His peace, "which transcends all understanding", will "guard...[our]... hearts and minds in Christ Jesus".

Have you ever watched the weather report for the upcoming weekend about six days prior?
They keep forecasting its going to rain all weekend. Until about a couple days before the weekend then the weather forecast has been updated to partly sunny with a chance of rain.
Then the day before its been updated, once again, to sunny with a 80% chance that Newt will crush Romney.:)

—I swear I feel like Ive been kicked in the stomach. 48approval for dipshit and now this.—

Don’t get down. This is like being down by 3, going into the last quarter of the Super Bowl. It ain’t over. Newt now has the gloves off, and
the crowd will be cheering. Can’t wait. It’s perhaps best that this dip came now, with Newt now having the chance to finish strong, with momentum.

Every single poll shows that if Santorum drops out, most of his support goes to Newt. Please Drop Out, Rick Santorum!!!

Santorum apparently is going to stay in this thing, so Newt will have to slug it out alone.

Where’s Guiliani and the others?

you bet they wont.

I called the JAX GOP and asked for tickets.
The woman told me that 300 tickets were out there but they only got 800.

Seems the establishment is putting their stooges in the crowd and ready to cheer on the RINO and then boo Newt.

I or my wife now can’t get in and what a farce all of this is with the establishment, they have burned too many bridges for me now and I will not vote or support Romney

“Listen, Rush downplayed Newt’s great win and momentum coming out of SC”.

I do believe that between Mittens and Newt, Rush would support Newt 100% if he wins the nomination.
He probably has a “strategy” but not always a good one. See: Operation Chaos.

Problem with all of these talk show hosts is that they don’t want to alter their listening numbers.
Also, they look to having these candidates come on their shows.

Levin may be trying to hide his aversion of all things Rino and Romney but he’s not doing a good job of it if that’s his goal. :-)

Rush was jumping out of his skin yesterday. I think it’s because he knows that Conservatives are stickin’ it to the GOP E. by supporting Gingrich. Let’s see where he goes with it today. Oh, and isn’t Newt is personal a friend of his?

I can’t stand Rick.
Notice how he pouts on stage tonight cuz he’s not getting many questions.
He’s neither likable or electable. He needs to go after he endorses Newt.

Here is all Newt has to say tonight to win: “Governor Romney can say anything he wants, but the one piece of hard evidence we have for him is his record as governor of Massachusetts. His record includes banning popular firearms, giving a de facto state charter to Planned Parenthood by naming them in his healthcare bill, devastating his state’s fiscal position with his out of control big government spending, and creating the template for Obamacare. Romney’s own former advisers then helped President Obama implement Obamacare on a national level. Governor Romney’s record is very liberal, even for a Democrat governor, let alone for a Republican one.”-—

Yes! Above all, hang Obamacare on him.

I hope Newt’s reading.

“Mitt Romney’s performance in Monday’s debate turned out to be a game-changer after all. “ Yeah. I’m sure it’s not all the attacks and misinformation being done to Newt from the left and right. It was the ‘debate’... B.S.

You're absolutely right. Yesterday while getting my nails done I saw at least 15 anti-Newt TV ads in 45 minutes and 1 pro-Newt ad.

The problem was that Romney made 10 assaults in 60 seconds, and Newt had 30 seconds to answer. Ridiculous. The format should allow Newt to reasonably address accusations.

I think it probably had more to do with Mitt calling in his marker on Rubio than anything else. It looks like Romney/Rubio is much more likely than Gingrich/Rubio, now.

I am FOREVER going to look at Santorum as a man AGAINST THE PEOPLE if he stays in Florida. Really. He had his chance to do the right thing ...and yet he stays in. Why???

Part of the FIX, Rick? You make me SICK.

this is bad news...we saw a little hint of this tightening yesterday

what bugs me most is how whimsical people who think themselves GOP must be

this race is just swing after swing

the mark of a very uninformed electorate nudged by the superficial prods

sad

Yes, and then the GOP establishment will learn their lesson about nominating a milquetoast liberal Republican, just like they learned their lesson after Ford in '76, Dole in '96, and McCain in '08....

No, they never learn their lesson. They always claim it would have been worse without them, in sort of a 'votes created or saved' measure. The Establishment is ALWAYS right.

“Why are you focused on Rick? What abput Ron Paul?”

We can’t honestly count on any of Paul’s supporters to vote with us.

Paul will never drop out no matter what. His supporters are rabid for him not anybody else.

People are calling upon Rick Santorum to do what Rick Perry did.

They know it’s no use to call upon Ron Paul to do what Perry did.
