Raisin' [a Few Issues for the Purpose of Honestly Vetting Herman] Cain!
The American Thinker ^ | October 16, 2011 | Joseph Ashby

Posted on 10/16/2011 2:32:45 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

"I'm the only problem-solver in the group," Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told Mike Huckabee in an August Fox News appearance. Well, many candidates bill themselves as problem-solvers. In fact, if we asked any candidate running for any office in the entire country, practically every one would likely define him- or herself as able to solve problems. Yet we know that politicians, as a rule, create and worsen problems rather than fix them.

.....Overconfidence turns the hopeful campaign pronouncements of otherwise successful people into dismal policy. In the end, Americans usually end up with more laws, less freedom, and no money.

The question is what type of problem-solver Cain will be as president......

Examining Herman Cain's record leaves serious questions about which type of problem-solver he is. In a column published October 20, 2008, Cain blamed conservatives' "economic illiteracy" for their opposition to the freshly passed Trouble Assets Relief Program.

"Wake up people!" admonished Cain with typical candor. "Owning a part of the major banks in America is not a bad thing. We could make a profit while solving a problem." Cain goes on to defend Treasury's decision to post-legislatively change TARP to buy preferred stock in banks rather than toxic mortgages. "You got a problem with that?" asks Cain. Apparently he didn't.

Cain reassures "free market purists" that the Treasury's stock purchase is "not nationalization because that would require government to own at least 51% of the entity for an indefinite period of time." (This is a relief, because some of us thought that government would use this foot in the door to force mergers, control salaries, and set lending rules. Oh, wait...)...

Who is we Kimosabe? I am talking about people that have paid all their lives on the current plan and now Cain wants to tax them again?

Why can we not vet this guy? He will be vetted whether we do it or not. Red meat speeches about electrified border fences and a national sales tax to go with the income tax. Economic empowerment zone exemptions and now Rich Lowrey, who came up with Cain's tax plan has already begun to consider lowering or dropping the income tax on the poor and lower middle class, at least according to Jennifer Rubin's interview with him.

Cain was the Dole/Kemp top adviser, he is a motivational speaker who gets the crowds pumped and that is good but we must scrutinize his plans or we will be left with a candidate the Dems will slice to pieces.

In a more idealistic world, Cain might even still believe in TARP. But he got a lesson in real world Rat politics when he saw what happened. Obama’s bank buddies got the lion’s share of the bailouts. Nope, Cain won’t be fooled a second time. “Let them fail.”

Would you rather pay $30,000 for a new car and keep our graduated income tax or pay $30,000 for a new car and be on the road to eliminating income tax?

I’m not saying that 999 would put us there - but could you answer the above?

Rick Perry gave an opt out on gardasil and got his ass handed to him.

Where is the opt out with Cains plan?

Did Cain make these statements? Then they are not smears.

“We” is corporate America which produces products for sale. (The tax only applies to new merchandise.) It will be freed from much more overhead than the 9% sales tax. As the overhead goes down, competition will force prices down.

I would rather have Gov piss off.

One of the Major problems with Cains plan is that it is quick to institute the %9 National tax and is airy about getting to the fair tax.

Cain is willing to tack a new 9% tax to my neck

...and he is eliminating multiple other taxes in the process.

Failing to admit both sides is a lie of omission.

I’m still wide open, really like Bachmann but don’t think she has much of a chance.

I live in a state with no income tax but a hefty sales tax from which the state gets most of its revenue. The last 9 of 9,9,9 means that my sales tax would be 18 percent (9% federal, 9% state.) I think it important that in a Federal system, the national government keep its hands off the sales tax. So, Herman, I’m willing to talk about 9,9 but not willing to go for 9,9,9.

“...and he is eliminating multiple other taxes in the process.”

Many of those other taxes don't effect everyone, but that sales tax sure does.

Maybe maybe not. He seems to like the idea of the U.S. taxpayers owning banks, does he favor them owning automobile manufacturers too?

If he know so much about how the dems work, why would he push for a national sales tax on top of the income tax?

On it's face 9-9-9 sounds good but the reality it isn't a well thought out plan. Next thing you know they will exempt those at or below poverty level earnings from the income part of the tax or will lower it to almost nothing. Keep watching for it because it will come.

how do we win Florida when Obama will just tell the seniors living n SS, oh Cain will tax your food and medicine by 9% while cutting those millionaires on South Beach taxes by almost 30%.

This is about winning elections too ya know.

The status of the opt-out as applied to private schools was in controversy. There would have been an unseemly amount of litigation getting it cleared up.

But what does that have to do with a revamped tax plan?

Your opt out, if you don’t think the easing in retail prices is enough for you, is to buy used.

I agree that the eliminated taxes can reduce prices but;

- even if ALL income taxes, including FICA, are eliminated I don’t think prices fall but 8-10%. Does 999 eliminate FICA? If not, prices can fall but not 9%. Also note that reduced costs can show up in lower prices, better wages, or increased ROI... all benefit the individual but don’t have to all show up in prices.

- looking at prices alone is not a wide enough view to analyze such a change. A much better evaluation is done by examining real prices [ie purchasing power.] Would you rather earn 100k and spend 90k or earn 120k and spend 100k? Some on this thread are saying they’d rather earn 100 and spend 90.

Well I am speaking of folks who have run the race and are retired.

If this is rankling my feathers, Cain has no chance in the general election. So folks who have worked all their lives and paid taxes get %9 more tax? and the folks that didn’t work get empowerment zones?

I would rather have Gov piss off.

So i'll try again. Would you rather have your government allow you to spend 75% of your dollars or 85% of your dollars?

I guess my only answer to you over this 9% is this. If your money is sitting there not invested you've planned poorly, if it's in a savings account you've planned poorly, if it's in CD’s you've planned poorly. If it is in the last two at least you benefit from zero tax on future interest earned. So it seems a person in the position describe only real complaint is their own lack of planning for the future.

Why does that old quote of “Don't tax him, don't tax me, tax that man behind the tree” come to mind.

Damn straight. That's the reason the rate can be lower. Everyone pays it. Not just the "top 53%"

Dropping corporate taxes to 9% affects EVERYONE because it is built into the price of everything you buy.

If you wish to argue that continuing our current system is a better idea, go ahead. But be warned, keeping the current system is the liberal argument.

Conservatives have worked for decades to get the Flat Tax or the Fair Tax so everyone is treated the same and everyone pays a little into the system.

Unless you support progressive taxation, you have no reason to fear the Fair or Flat Tax.
