I rolled out of bed ran down and got my cup of coffee and back up to bed to watch Fox and Friends, I thought for sure Sarah's announcement would come after the coverage of Steve Job's passing, but I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I even began to doubt that what I had read about Sarah's not running last night was a fake. Finally, at 6:35 this morning, 35 minutes into the show spoke about Sarah's announcement. Mind you, this is after talking about today being national noodle day for at least 3 minutes.
The coverage was short, probably 30 seconds worth, and it was demeaning towards Sarah in my opinion.
1) Gretchen stated that the reason Sarah didn't do a press conference like Christie was that there were actually people pressing Christie to run. Now, this implies that the regular people pushing for Sarah to run aren't real people like the ones pushing for Christie.
2) Whats his name made a remark about Sarah's "Title" statement.
I was really shocked.
I can look at MItt and say he is a moderate to liberal Republican because his record says so. I can look at Perry and say he is a very social Conservative and he is not a tax raiser and he is a spending cutter, because of his record. I can point to flaws and positives in both. Cain is another unknown entity who speaks well and comes across as a decent man but he needs to be vetted like Mitt and Perry have been then we will see where he stands. right now he says the right things and is amiable but i don't know him and his record is invisible.

Because they knew for months she wasn't going to run? As did I am many others here. Palin was doing zero to prepare for a presidential campaign and that has been obvious for a very long time, only her most fanatical supporters failed to see it. She ran a very long drawn out tease campaign that fooled about 10% of conservatives who had attached all their hopes and dreams to her. Finally it is over and those in the media who had been certain Palin wasn't running were proven right.
Well said. The absence of any one candidate did not cause anyone to implode on their own. They didn't need any help to do that.
In another thread Newt has said that if offered a VP slot he would not say no. Could he give Cain the experience in certain areas that he needs?

Unless Fox fawns over her and strews her path with rose petals from now until eternity, there are people here who will criticize them and call them leftists. It's a sad commentary.

High school salutatorian; scholarship to Morehouse College I was accepted by several historically black colleges, and was even offered scholarships to most of them, because of my rank as salutatorian (2nd highest grades). I certainly was not offered the scholarships based on my standardized test scores, because they were consistently mediocre, as were the scores of most of my classmates. I oppose government-imposed hiring quotas
Though my positions on the political issues have wavered little throughout my life, I honestly did not realize I was a conservative until I began my campaign for US Senate. I am pro-life on the issue of abortion. I fully support the Second Amendment right to bear arms. I am opposed to a government-imposed quota system on hiring practices. I believe we must replace the out-of-date federal tax code, and I believe Congress must severely cut back on its wasteful spending. But I did not know the term conservative defined my belief system. Prior to initial consultations with my campaign consultants when I ran for US Senate in Georgia, no one had ever packaged my political views into a single term. You’re wrong. Palin will continue her assault on the establishment as well as support tea party candidates. Just because she isn’t running does not mean she will disappear.
I look forward to her continued attacks on Obama, mainly because she’s still one of a few who has the stones to do so.

I"m a big Sarah Palin fan too and was very disappointed when she announced that she wouldn't run. Then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that Sarah Palin has been a very positive force for conservatives and that with all the media attacks on her and her family, the death threats and so on, she probably made the right choice - for her. However, I can't help feeling that the leftmedia 'won' by marginalizing Palin to the degree that she would have had an uphill road to win the election but I thought she would do it out of patriotism. I also have some doubts whether America is ready to elect a woman as our president. I see a lot of none-too-subtle misogynistic comments all over the internet - even on FR - when Sarah Palin's name comes up, as it often does. Still, like many others, I was ready to support Palin had she chosen to run. Now, she is out of the 2012 presidential race and, I believe, although Sarah Palin will still be a voice for conservatives (and her endorsement will be a huge boost to someone - preferably Herman Cain) she'll lose much of her influence.
Oh, the leftmedia will still mock her but she won't be the target she was when she could have thwarted Obama's re-election plans. That will be a relief for Sarah Palin and her family but by the same token, Palin will never have the same influence she once enjoyed because now, as a non-candidate, she is just another voice in the cacophony of voices vying for attention on the national political scene. Sure, she'll still get some attention but nothing like she had a week ago when she was a potential president. Too bad - but Sarah Palin has made her choice and we all have to move on as the 2012 election process unfolds. That being said, I don't dismiss Sarah Palin as 'nothing', she is simply not a factor in my election plans. Right now, I'm supporting Herman Cain. I hope he can make it past the establishment candidates and bring some conservative common sense to the presidency. Of course, I have some issues with his '999' plan but those will undoubtedly be worked out as he campaigns. We'll see. As for Palin, well, many on FR clamored for her to get in or get out - and now she's officially out, so they should be happy - but don't bet on it. Cain will be the next target. Wait for it.

I wouldn't call her a quitter. She left the Governorship for very good reasons so I don't fault her at all on that. She never was a candidate so she didn't quit, she did, however, string people along, far too long and I think that will hurt her in the ling run. But, she made a ton of money doing it so she might not really care, money is in the bank!
HOw so? If the income tax goes away, along with most others, how is a consumption tax double dipping? If you are against double dipping, what about our CURRENT layered tax scheme? How does a flat tax get rid of SS, Medi-fruad, etc... ?

I stopped watching Fox & Friends years ago. I barely watch their other programming anymore. I’ve hated FOX since they worked so hard to pimp Rudy Guiliani in the last election. They are doing the same thing to Romney now. Just like John McCain - FOX hates conservatives and only courts them when they need them to get re-elected or to get ratings.
Conservatives should stop watching FOX, and let them see what kind of ratings they get then.

Cain has the best resume. Period
He has a history if taking failing organizations and turning them around. Growing them and creating jobs.
Romney has a history of buying businesses and flipping them for a profit once he lay’s people off and balances the sheets.
Perry has a history of “if its not broke don’t fixit”. He inherited a pretty strong state government and economy.
I would vote for either of these men over the empty suit that occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Ave today. However, during the primary I will vote for the man I prefer. After last night it became Cain.

Okay, but the prebates are not sent only to those making that amount or less. They are for the amount that would be taxed on spending up to that amount for every family. In other words, the sales tax would kick when a family spends over the poverty amount.
From the FairTax website:
"All valid Social Security cardholders who are U.S. residents receive a monthly prebate equivalent to the FairTax paid on essential goods and services, also known as the poverty level expenditures. The prebate is paid in advance, in equal installments each month. The size of the prebate is determined by the Department of Health & Human Services’ poverty level guideline multiplied by the tax rate. This is a well-accepted, long-used poverty-level calculation that includes food, clothing, shelter, transportation, medical care, etc. "
Actually that's not true. I could make a mistake (I didn't and actually was conservative with my 20 g's #) and the rest of my "rant" (hardly a rant, more like simple disagreement with this policy) could still stand. Prebates are prebates, handouts are handouts.
Is the 9 percent income tax for everyone too or do those families making 22,500 not pay that either? Just questions I have. If they do they just received a 9% income tax hike on the poorest Americans.
If they don't they receive an estimated prebate check for what they may spend on sales tax in the coming year. That is a new welfare subsidy.
Do we end the food stamp program that 1/6th of Americans are on now or does that stay in place while we still hand out prebates. I just want to know because it sounds like a crap deal for the middle class.

I like the idea of a national sales tax, as long as it's capped at 9%.
Here's why. There is a huge underground economy. Those people avoid the income tax by doing cash-only transactions. Yet they get the benefits of government (defense, etc.). You and I pay our share, plus their share. A national sales tax will force everyone to pay something.
And think of how much easier it would be to administer a sales tax instead of an income tax. Just collect 9%, period.
Of course, the problem is in the capping. President Hermann Cain will want 9%. Then 10 years later President Chelsea Clinton will want to bump it up to 20%.

It would not surprise me one bit to see Fox terminate the relationship in the near future either by buying the contract out or limiting her air-time to the point of virtual disappearance.

Some folks have said that she will make a big splash at the GOP convention but why would they invite a non-candidate who has gone out of her way to label them all as "crony capitalists" and part of the problem?

Excellent comparison, Normy. Such a breakdown of the candidates' records and issues is exactly how most voters will eventually decide upon their choice for nominee.
I really like Herman Cain after listening to him for years on WSB. He loves the free market and the unlimited opportunity it provides to individuals, and he's a gifted problem solver. He graduated from Morehouse, an exclusive all-male, 99.9% Black private college in Atlanta that has turned out generations of productive and successful men. He is long on executive experience but has not held elective office -- a clear drawback. And he will have to prove that he is ready to meet foreign policy challenges. I like Herman Cain, but I am still vetting him.
Your short analyses of Mitt Romney and Rick Perry are spot on, in my opinion. Both have extensive records of success as chief executives, and both have records as governors -- the best training ground for presidents. Despite a few warts, Perry has an outstanding record as a ten-year governor of the second-largest state which has its own unique foreign policy challenges. And between the two, Perry's history and his current positions on the broad range of Conservative issues are better.

Hang on, you've switched from the Fairtax to the 9-9-9 plan. I don't know how fleshed out Cain's plan is, but it is my understanding that everyone would pay the 9%. And what is with the 'not pay that either' thing. I just showed you how with the fairtax, families are treated no differently based on what they make.

Different issue. I think it should end, but that is a spending issue, which is not addressed by a bill changing revenue. It also doesn't address NASA, the Dept. of Education or Air Force One use by the First Lady.

Pointing out your errors regarding the prebate policy in the FairTax plan isn't defending, it's correcting. I'm actually more of a 'conservatarian' than anything, as if that really matters. And if the check is a rebate (just before it's actually collected) of sales tax, it's not a handout, but a tax refund. If you overpay on your income tax, do you consider your refund check welfare?

You need to find an written interview or video clip where he gives a detailed explanation of his thoughts on affirmative action. The press plays this game all the time. He gives a multi-layered response whenever he is asked this question. He is not “for affirmative action”.
