Herman Cain's presidential rumblings haven't garnered much national attention, but that isn't because he lacks popularity among grassroots conservatives or because he's shunned visits to early-voting states.
The conservative talk-radio host is a bonafide Tea Party rock star who's a regular at their events and serves as a commentator on Fox News.
By his count, Cain has visited Iowa six times in the past year and has supporters making calls to key activists in the state. He's also made three trips to New Hampshire, one to South Carolina, four to Texas and two to Florida.
In an interview, the one-time Senate candidate and former CEO of Godfather's Pizza told The Ballot Box that he's serious about running and thinks he can shake up the race for the 2012 GOP nomination.
"I would represent that unconventional, non-establishment candidate that a lot of people are looking for," said Cain, a conservative black Republican who described the current field of GOP hopefuls as "the usual suspects."
...
February's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) could serve as a launching pad of sorts for Cain. He's set to speak at the event and said he'll likely take part in the much-buzzed-about CPAC presidential straw poll...
Cain recently beat out former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) in an online 2012 straw poll conducted among readers of the conservative blog RedState.

Do you mean "Cain and Palin?"
Are you saying you don't think Palin is intelligent?
I agree, he should start out by getting elected to some lower office; he’d be doing someone a favor, and we could also see what he’s got.
On this board, it is considered good form to respond to questions in public, on the board...not via email.
I want you to know this because you've been here less than a week.
If you don't believe Palin is intelligent, you have more in common with the Mainstream Media, Jon Stewart, Charles Gibson, Michael Moore, Joy Behar and Bill Maher than you do with a majority of FReepers.
If you want to have a discussion here, by all means reply. I have no interest in reading any more FReepmails from you.
“but the office of President is not an “entry level” position.”
The office of POTUS is unique, like no other. A true leader possesses those qualities that prepare him (or her) to rise to the task, however. We’ve had too many politicians in our history occupy the White House (including the current one) who were NOT leaders.
“Succeeding as an elected official requires certain skill sets not easily acquired outside of the “rough and tumble” of the political battlefield.”
Being CEO and President of top companies (as HC was) required political finesse to deal with both those below him (employees) and those above him (board of directors). Also, President of the National Restaurant Association (as he was) is an elected office and quite political. (The husband of a good friend of mine held that position for two terms, and she told me many stories of the demands and politics that were required in that life.
“We need someone as President who can win the political battles, but remain uncorrupted by the political “elite” in Washington, DC.”
HC is quite savvy, articulate and capable of fighting any battle with any candidate (even The One:-))) Because of his personal and career experiences, he’s not easily impressed, and his upbringing, deep faith and love of this country will protect him from corruption. He’s been around many elites over the course of his life and no doubt passed a lot of character tests.
He’s more than ready for prime time.
“Do you think voters might be confused? Cain . . .McCain.”
LOL - A picture is worth a thousand words :-)))))))))
I hear ‘ya on Fred. After all our anticipation upon his entry in the race, it just seemed to me that he didn’t have (or show, at least) that fire in the belly.
As far as offering solutions, HC is a problem-solver with a long track record to prove it. He’s built a reputation out of taking a losing situation and turning it around into a winner - exactly what this country needs at this critical time in our history.
“Cain doesn’t have a prayer in winning or even being nominated.”
I’m pretty sure MANY (if not millions) thought that about BHO before ‘08.
As to your alternative suggestion for HC - well, he’s a natural chief executive. It’s what he does, it’s what he is.
“to be honest with you the media and the left have very effectively minimalized him and created the impression in the minds of many Americans that he is not intelligent and that he is far rightwing and intolerant, and they will do this without getting labled as racists.”
They haven’t even begun trying yet, but I don’t think they’ll be successful - HC is older. wiser, more seasoned than Palin and he doesn’t/won’t, get shaken or rattled by them. He’s the only one I’ve seen. or can think of. who can absolutely be as smooth as BHO, both to crowds and in a debate.
Won't work.
Chunga, I am more than happy to reply in public and thank you so much for informing me of good Freeper manners. Since I had other Freepers write to me privately about my posts (saying they agree with me about my view of Palin), I was not aware there was an accepted procedure for responses. I absolutely am not shy to say I do not believe Sarah Palin is intelligent. Is this forum so limited, so small, so opinionated that everyone must agree on every single issue?
Amazingly, if you were to not agree with the candidate I would prefer, I wouldn’t dream of being as hostile as you and others have been to me on Free Republic. And for your information and every other Freeper who thinks I am new to this site... I AM NOT. I’VE POSTED UNDER NODEMS2000 FOR 10 YEARS HERE! Now I hope that all of you will see how your hardline thinking can skew an accurate result. I had to change name when I was having trouble getting my password and could not post. If it’s possible to research my posts in the past...have at it

sorry about the triple reply - my screen kept giving me an error message, I didn’t think it would post.
