A Connecticut woman is facing charges for allegedly sending her 12-year-old to school with weapons to protect himself from bullies, MyFoxBoston.com reports.

Police say 38-year-old Sylvia Mojica gave her son a BB gun and folding knife to carry with him at school on Friday.

I have real sympathy for her. Probably no husband, probably is hanging on in a job and trying to get by. It is not easy. The school probably does nothing and the school might be as bad as most state prisons. She is probably desparate.

I hope she and her son get some help. Maybe a local karate school could help train the son for free or something. Very sad.

People don’t look their best in police mug shots, after being hauled down to the local jail.

My first reaction on seeing her face was also negative. But take another look. She really looks terribly upset, worried, depressed, and scared. So would anyone if they were a single mother, their kid was being beaten up by bullies, and then was arrested for trying to help him out.

Not a good idea giving him a knife or a bb gun, because it could have gotten him in big trouble, maybe juvenile detention. But I think most likely she is desperate and really is on the ropes.

After the class idiot yelped about taking a pencil to the thigh, my buddy calmly said “I warned you.”

We used to take warnings like that seriously. In Angels Camp(true story, part of history)a man bought a red shirt(red shirts were considered bad back in the day, 1870s)and everyone he saw as he walked about town laughed at him. He told everyone he saw that the next person to laugh at his shirt would be shot. His best friend saw him and burst out with, "Where in the he** did you get that shirt?", the man pulled his pistol, stuck it in his friends mouth and fired. The judge trying the case dismissed it, saying that after all the man had warned everyone what would happen.

Think what a judge in today's BS PC world would do and say.

Fighting back still very much is the answer, the right to self defense does not begin at adulthood.

Weapons are appropriate. Whatever it takes.

Bullies you see, get out of hand. Often, as we read in the stories posted here - they can kill a smaller child. Unlike Hallmark movies, there is no miraculous force preserving the life of smaller children.

I don't just support women and the elderly who preserve their lives with force of arms on Banglist threads, I extend that support to children too.

Me too. I wore out a bully with a galvanized pipe one day after school. For the rest of my school years, the bully was often heard to say “Better leave clee1 alone. That little fv*ker will kill you!”

You must be young.

When and where I grew up, if you were warned about the consequences and didn’t take heed, it was your fault.

A little something known as “personal responsibility.”

The guy took some sharpened lead maybe a quarter inch into his leg. If you think that’s a big deal, you’ve got a problem.

In fact, now that I think back on the incident, the class idiot was warned he would be stabbed with a pencil if he didn’t knock it off.

“Police say 38-year-old Sylvia Mojica gave her son a BB gun and folding knife to carry with him at school on Friday”

For some reason, I got this image of the kid heading off to school wearing a coonskin cap, too.

On a more serious note, it wasn’t the best idea mom ever had, but I can understand the frustration.

Some of the worst bullying takes place around her kid’s age (12). You’ve got children who think they’re a big stinking deal now that they are in junior high/middle school. And most of them won’t get the maturity to lay off for another three or four years.

As for the schools, well, they’re usually worthless in my experience. I didn’t have too much trouble with bullies, but I knew people that did. There’s nowhere to turn for a lot of them. The teachers either don’t give a damn or get the situation wrong (I remember more than a few bullied kids getting in trouble for trying to fend off bullies). The administrative types were pissed off if they had to bother themselves with you (with guidance counselors, ironically being the worst of the bunch).

Sometimes people are trapped like rats. The schools can be horrible places and she is probably worried sick for her son. Very sad. My guess a single mom who is desparate and the school does nothing.

Pencils, umbrellas, a roll of nickels.

You gotta be creative when you send your little guy into one of our Super Max Government Educational Compounds.

And the greatest weapon is attitude.

Too bad the little guy didn't have a father to teach him how to deal with bullies mentally, not just logistically.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I worked with mentally ill people who lived on their own. One woman, an obese, slow learner talked loud and nothing was private with her. She was always ranting that kids picked on her son because he was in the same boat as she. She always threatened to do something against the parents, but we kept calming her down. When she would escort her son to school, the kids poked fun of her, as well. It was a no win. The school said the son provoked most of his bullies, but the school should realize his mental capacities. This woman reminds me of that woman.

I'll be honest with you, bullies these days aren't just arseh@les that taunt you and push you around. With some of the things reported coming from the Memphis public schools system, these kids are being beaten half to death, raped, mugged, stabbed, etc. Then there was the not so uncommon case where two sisters were attacked by a mob of about 15 girls and their mothers on the walk home over a....boy.

The Freeper who referred to the SuperMax government compounds....in some cases that is dead on! Our children are sitting next to juvenile felons with records as long as a roll of toilet paper.

If mother claims the boy was targeted as a gay, the authorities will forgive and understand the mother.

I had this issue once with Lurker, Jr. I set up a meeting with the Edu-droids and told them what was going on, who was doing it, and that I expected it to cease immediately.

They patiently explained their 'zero tolerance' policy on violence and told me that while they'd do what they could to stop it if my son fought back he'd be punished, too.

I then explained the Lurker Zero Tolerance Policy. Keep in mind that Lurker, Jr, 13 at the time, was sitting right there.

"My Zero Tolerance Policy regards school officials who after being told that my son is the target of violence do nothing become the targets of large, civil lawsuits both professional and personal. I will also sue the parents of the little rats who are bothering my son."

"Second, if my son is attacked he has my permission to fight back as hard as he can. I spent a lot of money on his Tae Kwan Do lessons and I expect him to leave his attackers needing medical attention. He is to end the attack as quickly as possible using whatever means are required. Is the Lurker Zero Tolerance Policy understood?"

The looks on their faces were absolutely priceless.

The next day I mailed them a Registered letter with a cc to some Lawyer I found in the phone book recapping our conversation and inviting them to correct the record.

The bullying ceased.
