ROME An Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board fended off a pirate attack far off the coast of Somalia when its Israeli private security forces exchanged fire with the bandits and drove them away, the commander said Sunday.
Cmdr. Ciro Pinto told Italian state radio that six men in a small white boat approached the Msc Melody and opened fire Saturday night, but retreated after the Israeli security officers aboard the cruise ship returned fire.

Good.
“Never Again”.
Citizens disarmed agenda maximally reduced: a few shots in the air were enough to prevent the largest vessel eccer to be captured by pirates in History.
More proof that guns are the answer.
Awesome squirrel gun!@
See, this is why the world hates Israel. I private firm, hired by a private shipping company, deals with the problem with absolutely no UN help. Problem solved, but the control freaks have no opportunity to further their grip on everyone else’s lives- so this approach won’t meet the approval of the powers that be.
I want one of those! I fired one at training in the Navy (I was an FT-G). Woo hoo!
Yep!
It begins with the fact that they live in one of the areas of the world where the "empty shelves" was first reached,
It continues with the fact that they maximally reduced the War on Terror Hoax. (1)
It ends with the fact that they maximally reduced the "Citizens Disarmed is base for security" agenda.
Notes
(1) April 8: Somali pirates seize sixth ship within one week. This time taking 20 american hostages.
What does this have to do with "North Korean ICBM launch exposes ABM Hoax - End Times Reductionism overflying Japan", a few days earlier?

Yep, trouble is a lot of countries won't allow vessels into port with firearms on-board. The simple solution would be to come up with something akin to a paintball gun on steriods that shoots ball bearings with compressed air. Ships usually have huge air compressors, so it wouldn't be much of a leap to have a couple of non-firearm deck weapons on board. Many moons ago I used to have a BB machine gun that fired around 100 rpm using compressed air. I don't see why this type weapon couldn't be scaled up for these ships.....
They need to kill these pirates to discourage others and attack & sink the motherships so they can’t get offshore very far.
Instead of Rube Goldbergish devices to defy the intent while obeying the letter of the maritime regulations it would be much better to change the stupid regs !
That will make a good entry in the NRA citizens defending column.
I knew pirates would be cowards when faced with powder not hoses.
No, the solution is be be heavily armed, and have those arms stored on a small “battle boat” that remains offshore while the ship is in port.
Naw, the way it used to be was for the purser to keep the guns locked up until needed (such as a pending pirate attack), then every sailor on board would be issued his firearm. Crybaby anti-gun liberals are the reason they changed the rules.
Right, but my way fits the laws right now, and can be done right now by converting a lifeboat or such. :)
Better yes, but near impossible to get a hundred or so countries to change their laws in a reasonable time frame. What I proposed would certainly skirt the regs, but it would be much cheaper and faster than waiting for hundreds of bureaucrats to actually do something meaningful with their regulations. Necessity is the mother of invention and all....and Rube Goldberg would be proud!
