Everyone Should Pay Income Taxes
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 04-12-09 | Ari Fleischer

It's bad for our democracy to exempt half the country.

If you thought Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme was bad, wait until you hear about the inverted pyramid scheme the federal government is working on. While Mr. Madoff preyed on people who trusted him with their money, the federal government has everyone's money, and the implications of its actions are worse.

Picture an upside-down pyramid with its narrow tip at the bottom and its base on top. The only way the pyramid can stand is by spinning fast enough or by having a wide enough tip so it won't fall down. The federal version of this spinning top is the tax code; the government collects its money almost entirely from the people at the narrow tip and then gives it to the people at the wider side. So long as the pyramid spins, the system can work. If it slows down enough, it falls.

It's also what's called redistribution of income, and it is getting out of hand.

Income tax punishes you based on the measure of what you provide to the economy and society.

A consumption tax would be more moral - tax you based on what you TAKE OUT of the economy and society.

If Obama gets his way and removes the earnings cap on Soshsecurity contributions, the charts will be accurate.

And that is exactly why cash will be outlawed in the next 3-5 years. It will either be done over the tax issue (which will be the true reason) or for beneficent reasons such as “starving the terrorists of contributions” or “ending the flow of illegal money to the drug trade”
At that point the government will have complete control. THe only black market possibility will be to have a large enough barter community that you can get everything you need from like minded individuals, and that you have a skill that can be bartered. Gee, I wonder why they are cracking down on home farms (gardens)?????

My favorite tax is no tax. I agree that a consumption tax is better than an income tax, but I’d want the tax rate made a part of an amendment to the constitution so that politicians cannot play with it. I’d also stipulate in that amendment that there are no exceptions, deductions, etc., in paying it. It should be levied at point of sale and there should be no sale exempt from it.

Tarriffs should be levied against those bringing goods of any kind into the country at the same rate as the sales tax. No exemptions.

One primary issue regarding a flat tax. It still makes you, me and everyone else a target of our government. It also allows the government to have access to all of your private information.

A consumption tax like the fair tax is the way to go. It is really important to learn about the fair tax and what it means, what it fixes and how it will impact your life.

Some hi-level points:

1) It eliminates the IRS
2) It eliminates all paperwork
3) It eliminates the entire process of people making business decisions based on tax impact - huge problem
4) It taxes the illegal money
5) It taxes you on what you take out of society...you are not punished for savings.
6) It will eliminate the waste currently imposed on our tax system that requires the equivalent of over 3,000,000 full time workers per year.
7) Products that exist today are inflated around 20-25% currently because of tax cost to businesses, the fair tax would basically replace that and prices would remain the same.
8) 65 million visitors to the US every year would participate in the tax revenue for our country
9) Business would be able to better compete and would revitalize lost industries and bring them back here.
10) We would go from the #2 most tax expensive country for businesses to the least tax expensive place for businesses
11) It would encourage about $13 trillion in US assets to return to our shores that are currently offshore.
12) The key and it is worth repeating, you would no longer be a target of our government, you would no longer have to give up so much of your private information, you would no longer have to worry about retro-active punishments because you work so hard to earn your place.

Regardless sooner or later our survival is going to require the adoption of a consumption based tax. A tax revolt is in progress in this country and we will force changes in our government.

Great video...Linder starts at about 31 minutes into it. Worth watching it.

Everyone should pay something, because they are utilizing the government's services.

Yes, but at what point does this moral obligation cease?

If your tax money was being used perpetrate the most heinous offenses on fellow citizens, should you still be obliged to pay anything?

If your tax money was being used to line the pockets of academia's scholars to study arcane and tenuous subjects, do you feel you should be coerced with deadly force to continue to give the fruits of your skill or intellect?

If your forced contribution provides support to fellow citizen in perpetuation of lifestyles harmful to themselves and the whole of our society, what is your moral imperative?

If your tax money is used to fund an ocean of excess in a multitude of ways do you have an obligation to continue your "voluntary" contribution?

I am not Patrick Henry with flaming red hair and oaths to Heaven, but I resent how our so called Free Capitalist System has been perverted by the Sixteenth Amendment and the IRS.

Sorry to learn of your difficulties. I have friends and family members who are also physicians.

I am very aware of the countless problems with emergency rooms across America's landscape. Numerous ones are closing due to unmanageable financial costs, denying worthy citizens from receiving true "emergency care."

Most, if not all, of the problems stem from a combination of factors, not the least of which are thousands of illegal aliens treating emergency rooms as regular doctor visits, the rest also stem from the welfare class doing the same thing even when they have Medicaid, as they are too lazy to make an appointment with a family doctor and/or wish to be seen NOW not forced to get an appointment and wait in the physician's waiting room.

“I can even go one step further - only those who pay taxes have any right to vote!!!”

Exactly. If you are a drain on society then you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

The Federal income tax code and it's 67,500 plus plus pages has become so bloated thanks to the multitude of loopholes and exemptions as a result of lobbyists on behalf of their big business clients that it is beyond repair. No amount of tinkering will fix it. It needs to be replaced with The Fair Tax Act(HR25/S296) that will replace all federal income taxes with a national sales/consumption tax and abolish the IRS. Fair Tax ping!
