Everyone Should Pay Income Taxes
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 04-12-09 | Ari Fleischer

Posted on 04/12/2009 9:22:47 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

It's bad for our democracy to exempt half the country.

If you thought Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme was bad, wait until you hear about the inverted pyramid scheme the federal government is working on. While Mr. Madoff preyed on people who trusted him with their money, the federal government has everyone's money, and the implications of its actions are worse.

Picture an upside-down pyramid with its narrow tip at the bottom and its base on top. The only way the pyramid can stand is by spinning fast enough or by having a wide enough tip so it won't fall down. The federal version of this spinning top is the tax code; the government collects its money almost entirely from the people at the narrow tip and then gives it to the people at the wider side. So long as the pyramid spins, the system can work. If it slows down enough, it falls.

It's also what's called redistribution of income, and it is getting out of hand.

Thank you for posting something with clarity.

Not only should sales taxes and tariffs be the only means of collecting revenue, but the end use of those funds should be only those things specifically enumerated in the Constitution, i.e. “the common defense” - which is, of course, just another way of protecting trade and commerce.

No man owns the fruits of another man’s labor.

Period.

A TAX POEM = [Must Read!] = Post #27 & a List of Taxes...

And #11, 21 = NO IncomeTax = Sales taxes on new goods and tariffs on foreign goods should be the only way a legitimate government should be able to fund itself. - by Desron13 (If you constantly vote between the lesser of two evils then evil is your ultimate destination.)

#32 - Jamil Mahuad, president of Ecuador in the late nineties, did away with their income tax and replaced it with a banking services tax of 2 percent. The theory was that, doing this, all money was taxed whether legal or hot money, at the point that it entered or left the banking system. -> Leftist liberals didn't like it... It’s too bad we can’t hit the federal government under RICO. Income taxes and property taxes are nothing but extortion.

I trust you'll forgive me if I disagree, having retired now. I'm living on twice-taxed funds from yesteryear. No matter how paid (FICA, 1040's, whatever), I've paid in. Done deal.

To go over to a national sales tax would reload us Boomers and Silent Generation retirees, while Gen Y and Gen Z pay much, much less w/o an income tax.

I like Ari, but he has it wrong: No American should pay an income tax!

In fact, if I had it my way, we’d all pay a consumption tax, such as the Fair Tax — and we’d only pay a consumption tax.

There would be no other taxes!

Let’s get our politicians attention (a metaphoric two by four between the running lights?), and force them to replace ALL federal taxes with a consumption tax!

And, once we get ALL federal taxes replaced with a consumption tax, then we replace ALL state and local taxes (including property taxes) with state and local consumption taxes!

It is long past time to make April 15th just another nice spring day!

And throw the Marxist progressive income tax on the trash heap of history!

“If” you want a more “democratic” tax then eliminate the income tax and replace it with a national sales tax.

I agree 100%.

If we had FairTax in place, the American economy would be roaring right now with the DJIA around 17,000. Why? Because savings and investment income will no longer be taxed, and the savings and investment rate would literally go through the roof.

I would modify this slightly to say that everyone who pays taxes should be all that’s eligible to vote.

Not if this was fairly taken into account with an age limit that was graduated in over time. Those above the age of 50 would have a large percentage exempted or would have all neccessities exempted and that would graduate back over time until the first generation of workers who didn’t pay into the ss system would be the one who would not get those breaks. There is always a way to fix it. As it is right now, we are paying into the system and we are unable to retire at the age of 65, we have to wait until 70 to do so. Is that fair either?

AMEN!!! A FLAT TAX is the answer!!

EVERYONE pays the same PERCENTAGE RATE of sales tax when they buy something...it should be the SAME for income tax....geesh. Give a standard deduction and then a FLAT TAX!

By and large, government is a economically destroying, moral and ethical corrosive, and liberty consuming enterprise.

So, it is destructive and enabling of evil to pay taxes.

If there is a general need, then let it be brought to the citizens and they will to the level of goodness and patriotism rise to the occasion. If not, that is because the people are no longer good, and thus who they vote for will no longer be good, or they are good and the cause is not worthy.

Of all the things to control, the forming of the minds of youth by government is the worst.

Besides, there is little need for them anyhow, save in the frozen imagination.

Schools were made when information was scarce and expensive. Now it is free.

Home schools, Internet degrees at even the post graduate level are common, will continue, and the price will drop to near zero, or even be paid.

The schools will be like the industrial ruins of Detroit, or the thousands of labor camps of Siberia.

People, individuals need to learn.
Schools are schools are primarily job project for low level college graduates that can not do productive labor, but are not smart enough for skilled professions.

Its OK. A lot of us physicians refuse to become governmental employees. There is a doctor shortage already. Watch what happens if they succeed in passing nationalized health care

That’s racist? /sarc

Your reference to a “black economy” brought my observation to mind - examine every policy of 0bama’s, see what demo benefits and what demo pays,

and you’ve got de facto reparations.

And the genius part of it is, since they aren’t calling it “reparations”, no one can ever say we’ve done that, and it’s over now.

Given an income tax, everyone should have their part.

However, I don’t believe in the income tax. Therefore, I believe that nobody should pay.
