Rush Just Issued A Request To Debate Barry

Posted on 03/04/2009 9:27:50 AM PST by NoGrayZone

Rush just issued a debate to barry, or any of his cohorts, to a debate against barry's policies vs.USA.

Rush will incur ALL expenses, we will not pay a dime towards it. Will barry except?

Probably not. barry is a little scared boy in a suit.

Over the past few days I’ve seen a number of FReepers express displeasure with Rush, and criticize him for this. BGHater, Choose Ye This Day and Cicero come to mind, as well as others I’ve encountered. Invariably, they allow their own problems with Rush overcome the real issue at stake.

Yes! This IS about Rush. It’s about Rush because of who he’s become; the most eloquent speaker of conservative principles on America’s stage. It’s about Rush because the enemy knows that if they can defeat him, no one else will have the temerity to step up and take his place. Will Michael Steele?

Yet this is also about you and I. This is about our freedom of speech. This is about the ability to say what we mean publicly and not be intimidated by any governing entity; especially that of the presidency. If they can intimidate Rush they can intimidate you for your letter to the editor. THAT is what this is about. Rush being who he is is only the first installment.

I recognize a few of these FReepers. A few are residual Paulettes from campaign days who perhaps hold Rush accountable for his feelings toward Ron Paul. Well, that’s pretty myopic of them. What if this were Ron Paul being singled out? Would they feel the same? Wouldn’t they expect conservatives to defend Ron Paul (I would) as we are defending Rush Limbaugh, even though Ron Paul is not a true conservative?

Yes. This is about Rush Limbaugh, but that is completely irrelevant. This is about America, and our losing one of the most important aspects of America; our freedom of speech and freedom from being singled out and targeted by our government and national media.

Anyone who doesn’t see that, anyone who doesn’t assimilate that into their take on this issue, doesn’t belong on this board. Sorry, but that’s how I feel.

I have issues with Rush myself at times. I’m certainly not a Ditto Head because I don’t listen that often. But I have every respect for Rush, who he is and what he’s accomplished. And I will not stand by and be silent when I see that being attacked. None of us can afford that.

I know it sounds conspiratorial but I think they do it purposely. Their listenership has to drop like a rock when they preempt the show.(Marks)

Also, Dr. Levin gets knocked off the air during his regular broadcasts more times than any other broadcast show.

Internet listening again tonight Beloved Levinite. Happy trails!

How does one "issue" a debate?

Rush debates people including seminar callers daily on his show. He’s articulate and knows conservative ideals and principles like no other. You put your money on Obama. You’ll lose on the debate issue but maybe win on the media coverage (naturally). But the audience (which will be huge) will know.

But then again, this is all conversation. It will never happen. The Obama camp has already started to back away. They can’t afford this exposure. Rush has cornered them. they never thought it would come to a head like this. Now is when the fun begins.

Yeah, well, I suppose that's true enough -- but if so, it means we have a problem.

Even if Rush is the smartest man in the world (which he's not), his radio program does little to advance conservative thought. John Derbyshire does a good job of laying out the weaknesses of conservative talk radio here. His point -- which is well-made -- is that talkers like Rush appeal to emotions and immediate audience reaction. It's quite certain that we cannot rely on talk radio to rebuild the intellectual foundations of conservatism.

It was those intellectual foundations that allowed Reagan to be elected -- Rush wasn't even on the scene when Reagan and Buckley and friends were setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution. It is the loss of intellectual foundations that has brought us to our current sorry state.

“I didn’t realize that Mr. Emanuel had so much ballet and dance training in his background. Evidently he does according to Wickipedia”....

Yes indeed! I remember that fact from a background profile I read about him when Zero appointed him.

So we have Rahm "Twinkletoes" Emmanuel for a Chief of Staff.

Don’t let Rahm’s effeminacy lull you, that guy is mean and dangerous....

I'm sure a lot of fags in tutus are dangerous if you corner them.

"Seminar" callers are not seasoned politicians -- Rush never seems to deal with the latter. It's the difference between a high school star and an NFL player.

He’s articulate and knows conservative ideals and principles like no other.

Like "no other?" Oh, come now. You're talking like he's your own version of Obama.

You put your money on Obama.

Yes, indeed. Not that I like the idea, but I think Obama would mop the floor with Rush, just because he'd be in his native environment. Maybe I'm wrong ... but I don't think so. Rush is too used to controlling the mike, and he never debates people at Obama's level.

But then again, this is all conversation. It will never happen.

Agreed.

Obama camp has already started to back away.

Oh, pooh -- they'd never seriously consider it in the first place. They have nothing to gain from it.

IT DOESN'T MATTER! IT DOESN'T MATTER! IT DOESN'T MATTER!

When the hell are you people going to wake up? The viability of talk radio, Rush's foibles, the appeal of other conservative writers and talkers ALL DON'T MATTER!!!! The issue is the ability of the government, along with their MSM cohorts to be able to take on an individual because of what he represents. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what's at stake and that trumps the viability of any other media, any other individual at this time. You have to fight the battle you've been given and right now that battle is this attack on Rush Limbaugh.

Oh, and if Rush isn't that smart, and his program "does little to advance conservative thought", then why is he being singled out? Hmmmmmm? Why isn't John Derbyshire? Why isn't Rich Lowry? Why isn't [insert name here]?

You people have your own foibles and one of them is Rush Limbaugh. And the fact you can't overcome them and see just what's at stake is as disgusting as it's revealing.

You seem to have me confused with somebody else. I haven’t said anything especially negative about Rush ever, that I can remember. I defended him during the quarrel over his drug use.

And certainly I have spoken entirely in his favor about this latest business.

Then just what the hell has all this been about? Rush didn't start it except for saying he hopes Obama's policies fail. And that doesn't justify a personal attack by the president. And if they realize they have nothing to gain (as you say), then why go down this road regardless of what Rush says. After all, you've said he isn't that influential.
