Los Angeles nears water rationing
By Steve Gorman
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) With a recent flurry of winter storms doing little to dampen California's latest drought, the nation's biggest public utility voted on Tuesday to impose water rationing in Los Angeles for the first time in nearly two decades.
Under the plan adopted in principle by the governing board of the L.A. Department of Water and Power, homes and businesses would pay a penalty rate -- nearly double normal prices -- for any water they use in excess of a reduced monthly allowance.
The five-member board plans to formally vote on details of the measure next month.

Cali has too many people living in a semi-arid location.
after a week of rain? they are lying to us. just like with the stock market.
You mean the close-to-illiterate movie stars might have to drain their pools?
I thought not.
Paging Jake Gittes.
“Cali has too many people living in a semi-arid location.”
Exactly. The same is true of much of the west. We built in spots that couldn’t come close to supplying the water we needed to support our settlements. We continue to grow in our usage while at the same time depleting some of the aquifers and squeezing existing resources to the breaking point. At some point we will probably see growth stop out there because they aren’t building in places that can support them.
Who could have known that water supply would be an issue in an overcrowded sanctuary city?
And 0 and Pelosi would love to have aborted them all.
The environmentalists knew.
Got that right. It rained for the past 3 days here in L.A., now this?
I have the same feeling these are the same imbeciles who voted to ban plastic bags in favor of paper starting this year.
What do you mean close-to-illiterate?You give the bimbos and buddies entirely too much credit......
Not too arid this weekend. It’s been raining straight for almost 3 days in San Jose.
SoCal doesn’t need the rain (but it helps) what makes it green and fills the pools is snow in the Sierra’s. Heavy
snow has been going on all winter. Looks like 2009 - 2010
is safe.
Can see the ad campaign now: “Yellow can Mellow if Brown, Flush it Down.”
So, will the idiots finally build desalinization plants?
Not too long ago, somebody developed a new type of nano-filter, that uses only 1/4th of the power needed for reverse osmosis.
It amounts to nanotubes only large enough to pass single molecules of water, nothing larger.
So practically speaking, all they need is a huge water pipe deep under the ocean. The water pressure forces molecules of pure water through the walls of the pipe, which is then pumped to the surface.
But they could even solve their energy needs right now by bringing in a ship mounted nuclear reactor to purify sea water through reverse osmosis. It could pump it directly into the coastal cities water systems, so they would no longer need to draw water from inland sources.
Of course, modern Angelinos know better, right?
And will demand the rest of the nation bail their butts out.
Off shore nukes desalinizing ocean water would solve this problem, plus I don’t believe them. CA has had lots of rain this year and I wasn’t aware the south was in a drought. I think it is just another lie in order to raise rates, just another tax hike.
until we stand on the roof tops and scream ENOUGH and actually mean it, they will continue in this manner.
pinging and old friend on the subject.
